The Judiciary has dispelled reports circulating that Deputy Chief Justice Florence Mumba has resigned.
Judiciary Public Relations Officer Terry Musonda said in an interview that the reports regarding Justice Mumba are unfounded.

Mr Musonda clarified that Justice Mumba retired upon attaining the retirement age of 65 last December.

“The truth is that Justice Mumba is still working with us. Yes she reached her retirement age of 65 last year but she was given a one year contract which she refused to take up,” Mr Musonda explained.

“She however asked that she continues for a month so that she could conclude some cases. To say that she has quit her position is total fabrication,” he said.

Mr Musonda said in as far as the judiciary was concerned; Ms Justice Mumba’s retirement had nothing to do with the said happenings in the judiciary but that she wanted to rest.

He said that Ms Justice Mumba was expected to leave office this month end.

Some online media reports indicate that Justice Mumba has with immediate effect resigned from her position as Deputy Chief Justice.

They said Justice Mumba has since written to Republican President Sata informing him of her decision not to renew and continue as Deputy Chief Justice of Zambia.

They said sources close to Ms Mumba disclosed that she has not been happy with the current happenings in the Judiciary especially at Supreme Court.

  1. She has resigned what are talking about. how can she retire when Chibesakunda is still there trying to mess the operations of the Judiciary.

  2. why denying the truth? she was given a one year contract of which she declined to take. that on its own is resigning. her services where still needed but she refused to work with rotten justices such as chibesakunda

    • She is a smart woman. She is prepared to put up with the confusion in the judiciary for just one more month so that she gets her full retirement benefits than for her to resign and forfeit the same. Good move Flo.

  3. “she was given a one year contract which she refused to take up” – bcoz she is aware of someone abusing the contract extensions upon reaching retirement age, for political milage. Good decision justice Mumba! Just be careful though, Ukwa might institution investigations against you

  4. To me this still sounds more than a resignation. It is a rejection of operating in the current arrangement. Do these guys understand any diplomacy or all they know is un couth language e.g. “appoint Sosala your Chitimukulu, Sata tells HH”. Bravo justice Mumba

  5. Lombe Chibesakunda turned 65 in 2009. Life!!!!!!!! No integrity whatsoever. A chi person who sat on the panel that decided that once a judge has been retired they cannot be promoted but retained on contract on the same capacity held at time of retirement. Is she normal? Immoral woman…….

  6. Well, well- if she was offered a one year contract which she has declined, then that is even worse. She doesn’t want to work in the rotten system .

  7. Same thing, isn’t it? He wanted them to spell out “refused to take up an a contract extension offer”?. He is trying to save face of the govt but he has just reviewed is actually more damaging and embarrassing to the govt than the reported rumours – i.e. flouting the Constitution with impunity and facing downright rejection; the fact we have an CJ who accepted such an offer doesn’t bode well for the govt. His revelations also boosts the Justice’s tattered image and integrity.

    • That’s the problem of employing self taught half baked officers like Terry Musonda. Instead of building the image (or smoothing the edges) he has in fact damaged the Judiciary’s image and that of the appointing officer!! I would recommend him to go for a “Mary Gober” short course – he needs it!! Google it Terry, it is essential for you!!
What Terry should have said is that Justice Mumba retired full stop. No need to say that she rejected a new contract because that implies rejection of whoever had appointed her as well – SataN I think!
Does this fella Terry really know his job?

  8. POOR LEVY OVERSTRETCHED MOTHER LUCK EVEN WHEN IT WAS EVIDENT THAT HIS HEALTH/BODY HAD REACHED BREAKING POINT. IT WAS TIRED.
THE FELLOW, COULD HAVE RETIRED TIMELY TO ENJOY HIS RETIREMENT BENEFITS WITH THE FAMILY! MHSRIP.
