Former Defense Minister George Mpombo has described as political hog wash the situation that is being created in the country by the conflicting statements that government and the Technical Committee have made on final draft constitution.
The Acting Chief government spokesperson Fackson Shamenda had recently denied that government had been handed over the final draft constitution a position the Technical Committee has also challenged government to write to it and say whether it has not handed over the final draft commission to the state.
But Mr. Mpombo who is also former Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria has observed that if indeed government has received the final draft constitution going by the statement by the Technical Committee, government should come out clean and succumb to the demands of the people in the country.
Mr. Mpombo said that the Patriotic Front (PF) government will only be exacerbating the political situation in the nation if it begins to play tricks or games on final draft constitution.
Mr. Mpombo has told Qfm news in a telephone interview that the PF government should also keep it in mind that Zambians are not dull or bunch of dimwits that they can be easily swayed to believing things anyhow.
He said that Zambians are now politically mature and that the conflicting statements that have been made on whether the final draft constitution has been handed over to the state or not are not inspiring confidence to the current constitution making process.
Yesterday, Vice President Guy Scott said that the technical committee did not present supporting documents to prove that what was contained in the draft constitution were the aspirations of the people when they presented their report.
He stated that the technical committee claimed that it had lost supporting documents of the Draft Constitution.
“We need to prove that what is contained are the aspirations of the people and this is why we need to see the supporting documents,” he said.
Dr Scott said once the report and supporting documents of the Draft Constitution are presented they will have to pass through all the processes of enacting laws.

The question is who is going to draw a line on this issue and halt the rapid decline provided by sensationalist play to the audience on a drama that does not need to exist but is provided courtesy of shifting goalposts? I’m not convinced this draft is complete. There are errors and missing sections. Unless the tardiness was caused by focus on some sections and little attention to others. Some numbers do not correspond to the subject matter. The committee appear to need more time to work on those areas. It looks a little rushed in places.

So, for each and every item in the Draft, you will have check to see who said what, when, where and why. This is absurd! I thought Scott was a little different from the whole bunch of liars. Wait, the ’90 days’ lie will soon catch up with you!

Former Defence Minister George Mpombo is free to express his opinions. He does not need your permission/approval to air his views. For your information it is not everyone who contributes here that has no problems. This is a national issue which affects Mr Mpombo whether in or outside prison. He wants to find a progressive contitution in place when he comes out of prison. Besides, he has friends, relatives and loves Zambians.
The simple reason why leakages take place is because of delays in making the information public and above all for the people in power fail to keep the promise. For as long as we don’t carry out the assignments timely as per schedule, leakages will occur. In this case, we must move forward with the document that has been circulated. The constitution committee must review the document to authenticate it’s content so that parliament members can also look at it before it is subjected to a referendum. The bottom line is that as a nation we must move forward. One Zambia One Nation.

Mpombo George has no reason whatsoever to comment on constitution matters.He only left MMD in 2010 or early 2011 and was full cabinet minister who 100% contributed to MMDs’ faliure to deliver a constitution for mother zambia.

Zambians should have known from the start in 2011 that this PF govt is untrustworthy and always has alterior motives.Lack of new constitution,the violence and misrule should mean PF is out come 2016.
