Authorities intercept bus after diarrhoea breaks out among passengers

Share

Health authorities have intercepted an international passenger bus from South Africa to Lusaka after diarrhoea broke out among passengers.

Kafue District Medical Officer, Wyson Munga, confirmed the development to ZANIS, saying Intercape Bus registration number ICG342 GP was intercepted in Kafue where affected passengers were treated.

Dr Munga said the district hospital had attended to 18 of the 31 passengers who were complaining of abdominal upsets.

The medical officer said the Intercape Bus was initially intercepted by Chirundu district environmental officers after a report from some of the passengers.

He added that the bus crew did not adhere to directives issued by Chirundu environmental officers to take the affected passengers to Mtendere hospital for medication but were later cornered at Kafue Bridge check-point and took the patients to Kafue District Hospital.

Dr Munga further said preliminary investigations had revealed that the passengers were given some food and drinks by the bus crew and some samples were taken to Lusaka Food and Drugs Lab for suspected poisoning.

He said the district hospital will establish the cause as soon as results from the lab are out.
Meanwhile, the District Medical Officer revealed that the Intercape bus lacked adequate water supply, disinfectants, soap and tissues.

The patients have since been discharged as they were all out of danger.

    • diarrhoea on intercape?? that luxurious coach?? very strange!!!… are sure there was no PF cadre who was recently at the PF rally in katuba on that bus??,, especially those cadres who like shaking hands with leaders… and please check those guys again for urinary infection, just in case those people wil need urinary bags also

    • I think it is very sad being UPND very sad it hurts. How do you link urinary infection of one person and diarrhoea on intercape.

  1. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE PEOPLE LIKE SATA AS A PRESIDENT.
LETS VOTE HIM OUT IN 2016.
I WILL MAKE SURE HE IS DEFEATED.

    • What an !d10t! What has this got to do with politics? The article clearly says that the passengers were given food and drinks by the bus crew which is suspected to be the source of the poisoning as well as not being in a sanitary condition for such a long journey. But all you can do is spew your political drivel

    • akamuntu ;when you hate someone with no apparent reason it shows, and puts you on the spot – zonda uzalema and you are not the only voter fortunately.

I really hope this was meant to be humorous, because frankly speaking, i did laugh when i read this,…. ! Still sounds funny! LOL!!
But, hmmmm, the bus isn’t a place you want to be when the shiki gets to you….! You look around and everyone is looking fit, and then its just about to hit you baaad!!

    • That is why ba Sata bakawina in 2016…these people so called Opposition just dont know what they want. They are so confused that they just shout for nothing on top of their voices but not impact at grassroot level. Can you imagine, them linking diarrhoea on a bus to PF? Even my 10 year old son will say these are a group of disparate people that do not deserve a vote at all…!

  2. I will never use intercape again, delays, they take a long route via Masvingo. The bus simply craws. Now with this diarrhea, lol ! You get home late at night,

  3. IF ONLY SATA WAS A CARING AND A LOVING LEADER ALL THESE WOULDNT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING.
LETS VOTE THIS MAN OUT IN 2016.
    AND I MEAN RETIRING HIM.

  4. Very impressive how proactive the team was to ensure that the situation did not escalate. Congratulations to the health team for their assertiveness.

  5. It is not funny to imagine that bloggers like Akamuntu are representative of a behavioral pattern amongst our people pa Zed. Have you noticed how poorly designed, and never-improved roads are blamed on the “Devil” whenever an accident happens?? These are your electorate, people, and they are breeding!

  6. ndobo and akamuntu your thinking is wrapped and childish!!Grow up guys and stop thinking like primitive people. What has this got to do with Sata or politics?

  7. Leave sata out of this mess, is he the owner of intercape? was he the one serving the food on board. SA authorities ask for the yellow fever cards on borders, have they ever caught anyone with yellow fever? Intercape is a well established transport campany in S.A there was just something wrong with the food suppliers and it must be checked.

Ukwa doesn’t work for intercape so all those talking about him on this matter have misplaced ideas. Lets just blame the S A company to give our passengers poisoned food.
