Civil rights activist Brebner Changala has described the rejection of the constitutional motion by Parliament on Tuesday this week as treacherous and an act of state anarchy.

The motion that was moved United Party for National Development (UPND) by Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament (MP) Garry Nkombo to urge government to put in place a roadmap for the enactment of a new constitution, was rejected by 69 to 42 by the House.

And Mr. Changala told Qfm news in an interview that by the rejection of the constitutional motion the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has again proven to be a collection of alleged liars and a group of alleged deceitful men and women.

Mr. Changala has wondered how the ruling PF can at this point of time reject the releasing of the constitution as well as resist a motion to give a roadmap on the enactment of the country’s new constitution when while in opposition it promise to deliver a new constitution in 90 days.

He said this is exactly what he refers to as the abuse of the people when the party in power conducts itself in such a manner by cheating the people.

The Civil rights activist has however commended the opposition MPs for the effort they are making on the demand for the enactment of a new constitution especially that task before them not easy.

And Operation Young Vote (OYV) has observed that with the rejection of the constitutional motion by Parliament it is very clear that the PF Government has no intention whatsoever to facilitate the delivery of a people driven Constitution meant to move the wheels of equity, justice and development for to the Zambian people.

In a statement to Qfm news, OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda said the alleged dry debates by the PF MPs and the subsequent shooting down of the constitutional motion is evident that the ruling PF is allegedly in top gear to ensure that Zambians are condemned to poverty.

Mr. Nyirenda said it is sad that the ruling PF has not only gone against the promises on which Zambians elected them into government but that it has also taken a fruitless partisan stance on the Constitution making process.

The OYV Executive Director said his organization is convinced that the only way the Zambians will give themselves their long awaited People Driven Constitution is to stand up in masses.

  1. this is a challenge to the gullible MPS – do u realise that you were dribbled
how come all of a sudden the electronic voting system was not working. the executive knew that even its own PF MPs were going to vote for the motion and so the only way to make sure every one voted their way was to allow for the open manual voting – hahahahahahahaha – welcome to PF democracy

also the public is waiting to know what the MPs reaction is to Guy Scott’s racial insults stating that MPS were just “Monkeying”.

  2. The opposition should not cry over this but instead rejoice. If PF had given the constitution then on what basis would the people voted them out? Look at the campaign messages of the opposition. Quite ordinary. They talk about things that we ahave heard over and over which mean very little. Now they have one very clear message of promising to give a people’s constitution once voted in in 2016. That is more powerful thasn the cosmetic, regional and tribal development projects that PF is doing. The same kind of projects were used by RB who was kicked out of state house with pants down by sata using the constitution message. It is good news.

    • The issues at stake are greater than being elected into government. It’s about redressing the deficiencies of the current constitution, rebalancing the powers of three arms of government and ensuring equal rights to all Zambians, among other things.

  3. it’s good that the motion was thrown out.remember upnd and mmd went to bed together to come up with a fake constitution which was thrown out.you fools ammassed a lot of worth through this constitution process during the mmd gvt.whats the rush now.anyway just wait you will be met with resistance from the chiefts who are rejecting this licked draft. Dialogue is the best not political blackmail.so lets wait for the technical committee to hand over to the president.

    • Come on man!
This thing about UPND and MMD getting into bed to produce a fake constitution as you put it is totally hollow. The PF while in opposition dismissed their MPs who participated in the NCC and went ahead to promise us a constitution within (NOT in) 90 days. This is the point.
The Pee F has taken you and me for granted over many issues and I am troubled that you are still dreaming about dialogue. Better wake up and smell the Pee FFF

  4. @ joepapa, you are easily fooled and i am sure you are one of those people who were fooled by Sata’s 90 days nonsense if the draft hasn’t been handed to the president where did the chiefs see it,please wake up it is people like you who made some of us to leave Zambia you still think like ba by air in UNIP ‘S time what ever the leader says is right and i believe some of these bloggers are employed at state house just to blog nonsense you can fool people sometime but you can’t fool all the people all times.

  5. Zambians are very dull people they deserve what is happening. How on earth in this modern time you can elect an uneducated man, tribalist, backward, colonial minded, aged and chamba taker.

  6. What kind of law makers do we have in this Parliament? Are they there to serve their tummies or the electorates? Were they scared that all of them would get fired if they supported the motion. All those who spoke against said nothing of substance. Munkombwe was just hallucinating. Surely as Lubinda observed the majority rules but that does not mean they are right.

Poor Zambia what have we done to deserve such legislators who cannot see beyond 2016!
