The death toll in the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway accident has risen to 15.

Copperbelt police commissioner Joyce Kasosa said in an interview yesterday that nine out of the 15 dead people have been identified.

Meanwhile, only seven of the accident victims are still admitted in hospital.

One accident victim is admitted at Wusakile Mine Hospital while six are receiving treatment at Kitwe Central Hospital.

Wusakile Mine Hospital medical manager Ronny Cheelo said three out of the four accidents victims that had remained were discharged yesterday.

Dr Cheelo said the remaining patient sustained multiple fractured legs and hands requiring extensive surgery.

And Kitwe Central Hospital spokesperson Grey Chishimba confirmed that six accident victims were still admitted at the institution.

Thirteen people died on the spot on the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriage in a road traffic accident involving a truck, a car and a minibus on Tuesday this week.

The number has however risen to 15 after two more accident victims died in hospital.

  1. Very heartbreaking! Lives cut so short for something that could have been avoided if traffic controls, road conditions, vehicle fitness road worthiness and road safety were a priority rather than roadblocks being mounted as fundraisers to feed Zabwino Palibe because tuli na ba Papa Fule. Our population is far too small in proportion to vastness of our country. We need numbers to propel the country forward not needlessly losing our brothers and sisters in road accidents everyday! Ndola – Kitwe dual CRRGWAY is an established route that should have cameras installed on it. This route had also been used by criminals as a getaway route via the plantation. We were really scared of the chichele plantation stories of my school days. I Love NDOLA – we sympathise with you our people. GOD bless

  3. Every time there is a fatal accident with loss of multiple lives, one word comes out prominently; Truck! Focus then should be around activities and operations of these trucks; driver fatigue due to lack of rest, road-worthiness, adequacy of driver licensing regulations. I think the key lies in stiffening regulations governing these activities as we also improve on our standard of roads and road signs.

  4. Very sorry and sincere condolences to the morning families and for those in hospital God be with them. The traffic police are sleeping on duty because most accidents are avoidable if they work extra hard. These road users abuse/break the laws,I think stiff punishments should be given to all motorists contravening with the laws no matter how small it may look like.Any small issue on the road can lead to loss of innocent lives. But its very unfortunate, these police officers can only help out if they stop receiving or asking dubious money and leave the offenders free….corruption is the greatest disease eating the traffic police.
