National Restoration Party president Elias Chipimo delivers a speech during the meeting to demand for the release of the draft Zambian constitution

Opposition National Restoration Party (NAREP) President, Elias Chipimo Junior, has urged stakeholders championing the release of the final draft constitution to ignore the Zambia Police warning over the prayer meetings.

The Zambia Police has warned that the law will take its course and visit all churches using their church buildings for campaigns to push for the release of the first draft Constitution.

Mr. Chipimo said that the PF government will try to intimidate the relevant stakeholders championing for the speedy enactment of the new republican constitution, by using the Police but that this will not succeed.

Mr. Chipimo stated that genuine opposition political parties, CSOs, Church mother Bodies and other concerned stakeholders have already drawn an agenda and that they know what they want.

He explained that according to the current constitution under Article 1 sub article 2, power resides in the people and that the people will do anything within the limit of their powers.

Mr. Chipimo noted that there is nothing unconstitutional for people to gather in church and pray over issues affecting them.

Meanwhile, the Grand Coalition championing the speedy enactment of the new Republican constitution has vowed that no amount of intimidation from either government or the Police will stop it from championing its cause.

Coalition Spokesperson MacDonald Chipenzi yesterday said that the agenda has been set and that the coalition is resolved to ensuring that it puts the necessary pressure on government to deliver what it promised the people of Zambia.

Mr Chipenzi has since revealed that Coalition will soon be in Southern Province to hold various prayer meetings for the release of the final draft constitution after successfully holding similar meetings in Chipata.

He has since urged residents of Southern Province to turn out in numbers and attend the prayer meetings.

And Chipenzi said that the fight for the release of the final draft constitution is a fight for all Zambians.

Mr. Chipenzi said that it is important that Zambians turn to God for intervention in the fight for a people driven constitution, stating that with divine intervention the final draft constitution will be released.

He stated that the meetings being held in churches on the constitution mean no harm.

    • police is now telling people not to pray? this is very strange. its an indirect way by the govt to tell us that they no longer value and recognizes the supremacy of the Almighty God. this is the beginning of their downfall. we are tired of being led by 1diots like kambwili

    • How dare this parasite of a man threaten his majesty MC Sata.

Here is the problem of democracy, this threat alone should have him
      arrested.

      Thanks

    • I like Chipimo’s shirt, why do he give a tip to Sata where to buy clothes?
I pray that Kabimba be attacked by a wild-black cat.

    • Mushota- parasite of a man lives much better than you- in your squalid council bedsit! For your information, Elias supports over 40 Zambian orphans and he has several properties which accommodates them! If I were you I would keep my mouth shut than pose with your big trap mouthing all those unprovoked attacks. You, like the Palibe Fintu party always digressing from the subject and thrive on unleashing yourselves on the innocent!

  1. Mean while it is the youth and vulnerable people who will get arrested by these imbeciles. Sata has proved to be a very pathetic person with no guts whatsoever. he continues to rule the nation with random posts on facebook written by god know who, definitely not by him. Continue hiding in statehouse shameless old man.

  2. Police do not want to be on the other side of the people has this can easily happen. Police are there to safeguard people’s life and not to be threatening them. It seems this police now is just on the side of the ruling class. The is not correct as it standards a chance of pushing general public to react to their bias reaction. Police, take it easy you are not almighty as you may feel.

  3. Ba LT can we have ordinary news for a change. Im upto my neck with restogressive politics this week. Give us something happening to ordinary people.

  4. This guy Chipimo, although he has no base, can make a good vice presidential candidate with HH as presidential candidate. What do you think? That can be a dream team after 2016 as far as the economy, governance and decency in politics is concerned. Politics of hero worshipping the president would be over.

    • AND YOU THINK THE LIKES OF KAPITA AND MWITWA WOULD ACCEPT GIVING OF VICE PRESIDENT POSITIONS TO INTRUDERS. WHAT HAVE THEY WORKED FOR ALL THESE YEARS IF NOT BECOMING VICE PRESIDENTS. VICE PRESIDENTS WILL ONLY COME FROM WITHIN UPND, PEOPLE FROM ALLIANCE OPPOSITION PARTIES WILL ONLY BE MINISTERS AND DEPUTY MINISTER KWAMANA AND THESE ARE THE LIKES OF MULONGOTI, FRANK BWALYA, NEVERS, CHIPIMO ETC…

  5. The current discourse in Zambian politics is very shallow and only appeals to people who microblog. The best example is this constitutional issue; it appears to have grown into a daily topic for debate because politicians do not have answers to the problems Zambians face. What happens if the govt. gives a roadmap on the constitution; will it positively affect the rural poor? In what ways? Will people be more prosperous? Politics and leadership should not only hold office holders to account, but they should also give hope to people, to inspire and get people enthused. What are the NAREP, MMD, ADD, UPND etc. policies on health, agriculture, education, economy, youth unemployment, poverty alleviation, governance? How do we pay for their vision of the country? Are their visions costed?

    • @manlove,the pf manifesto is good and while in opposition it inspired alot of Zambians, but today all essential commodities are beyond ordinary citizens budget.its better to talk less but offer realistic economic approach than to lie .mcs said he will rule based on 10 commandments, blocking chitimukulu and denying opposition rallies is not based on those biblical laws.

  6. Why do we as Zambians have prayer meetings for everything? We need multi-party demecracy; let’s hold a prayer meeting, we need a new constitution; let’s hold a prayer meeting, the economy is in a bad shape; let’s hold a prayer meeting, there is a drought; let’s hold a prayer meeting, there are floods; let’s hold a prayer meeting, the president messes up; let’s hold a prayer meeting to pray for him. Are we able to do anything without praying? Do we believe that we own and determine our destiny, or is that for GOD to decide? Does GOD do anything else apart from listening to Zambians and our self pity?

    • Because your country is a ‘christian nation’

      Are you subtly mocking God?

I would be careful I was you, what a futile contribution.

      Thanks

    • Mushota, I am not sure if you understand what futile means. The essence of my contribution is there for you to see; if you can read and comprehend. I am not subtly mocking GOD either, rather I am addressing this to Zambians. GOD does not post on this website or speak to these politicians to request that Zambians hold prayer meetings for everything. In short, there is a saying that ‘GOD helps those that help themselves’ and as Zambians, we should learn to face our problems and address them rather than believing that GOD will solve all our problems.

  7. Mr.Chipimo yo words are good if u ‘re saying that, you r going to be a protector 4 the masses wen the wrath of the police rises against those pipo you inciting as if you personerly have any single power to stand wen the wind blows

  8. Using the church for politics by NGO’s and political parties is not different from using women and children as human shields in a war. This is terrorism!

  9. Mr.Chipimo, i have 1 suggestion for u Baba; If greaved enough ,why not taking the matter to court instead of caursig wunds for pipo who re @peace @ their homes

  10. Please, I seek clarity

Has the Draft Constitution been handed over to the President yet????

If NO, then why the fuss over it?

Push who to release it then????

Am sure no father would invest a colossal sum of Money is a business only to back out at the last minute.

    Zambia. I love Zambia.
