Veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga has denied media reports linking him to the forthcoming Malawian general elections.
Opposition Malawi Congress Party secretary general Gustav Kaliwo is reported to have singled out Mr Mwaanga and Major Richard Kachingwe and others as some of the foreigners interfering in Malawi’s internal politics.
Reports in Malawi indicate that Mr. Mwaanga, together with Major Kachingwe have been hired by Malawi President Joyce Banda as political consultants ahead of the elections scheduled for May 20.
In an interview, Mr Mwaanga described the reports as malicious and aimed at tarnishing his image.
“I have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the Malawi election. All those reports are a stretch of somebody’s imagination,” Mr. Mwaanga said.
He said Malawian have a right to choose for their leaders in a democratic manner without any interference.
Mr Mwaanga revealed that the last time he travelled to Malawi in 2010 at the official opening of the new Parliament building of Malawi.
He however admitted having provided consultancy to the late President Bingu Wa Mutharika and his then running mate Joyce Banda in the 2009 elections.

I haven’t finished actually. Mushota you seem to be a bit of a mixed bag in your jibber jabber . Sometimes you talk to-sh and other times there is some elements of logic in what you say. To be fair you are a bit of an enigma. You might just be the missing link in Zambian politics. Assuming you are a lady I find it intruguing that you don’r appear to have good things to say about fellow ladies like Dora Siliya but find time to praise the mail folk of Zambian politics. That is not a spirit of being supportive of the ‘dominated gender’ in the male dominated social, economic, political settings of the world. Am in!!

Getting back to the topic; is VJ really an election rigger as he has been portrayed in the past? I bet that is why the writer of the article appears to think this will be the biggest news story of the century, 2014, which has just started.

RB dumped him what happened. Zambians should be proud that he has skills he got as first ZSD Director General. He was trained by the best. There many others like VJ who are trained to break into houses and get vital documents while you are asleep, ask Mr Gondwe the Bank Governor or Nevers.

Maybe let’s examine the photo above to get to the bottom of this alleged rigging. VJ is walking into some unnamed building (deliberately not shown on in the photo for obvious reasons), he has his hand on the jacket pocket ensuring all the rigging data for the tenure of his career is well secure. A guy in a white shirt with arms folded is carefully looking out for suspiciuos characters like the press, opposition party informers, etc. VJ’s assistant is asking the drive to be vigilante and be ready to bring out the ballot paper samples of all the elections VJ’s schemes have won and any other info relevant to support VJ’s ‘accomplishments’. I think there is substance in the ‘allegations’ over the years. The proof is right here before us.
Africans need to get a grip. Political consultants, foreign or local, are always being used around the world. Rupiah hired a foreign firm of political consultants. They got paid, but Rupiah lost. The main opposition party in the UK has hired Obama’s former consultant – an American. Politics are for grown-ups, not for cry babies. In the end, what matters is to hold a free, fair and violence-free election.
if mwanga has the the profesional skills wy cant he be consulted.those saying he interfered in politics of malawi are short sighted. wy shud the job of consultancy be a preserve of foreigners. we shud be proud that mwanga has such credentials.
Election consultants are queuing up for jobs in the European elections and VJ is nowhere to be seen. I thought his jurisdiction would be quite wide with his credentials as a country’s UN representative at 17.
Having read, from another news source, about VJ’s denial of any involvement in any election mulpractices, I would like to unreservedly apologise to VJ and all those affected by the blog earlier made in relation to the analysis of the photo that appeared on LT. VJ appears sincere in his statement that he has not been to Malawi since 2010. This failure on my part has now resulted in a review of how any future analyses of events and future blogs will be approached and conducted.
