Government says the registering of trade schools as contractors will help create employment among the youths graduating from trade institutions.

Transport, Works, Supply and Communications deputy Col Panji Kaunda says his ministry wants to start awarding its contract to trade schools so as to help empower their graduates as they are skilled.

Col Kaunda has for this reason advised all trade institutions’ graduates to form cooperatives as government contracts will be given to trade schools.

ZANIS reports that the Transport, Works, Supply and Communications deputy minister said in Chipata yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on Chipata Trades vice principal, Christopher Zulu.

And Col Kaunda observed that under the new approach of job creation youths will benefit more when they work in cooperatives.

The deputy minister noted that often youths with skills are paid low wages by individual contractors a situation government intends to correct by awarding contracts to trade institution.

He further stated that from every contract a trade school will get ten percent while the rest of the funds will go to the cooperative.

Col Kaunda has since directed Chipata trades to recruit all former students in readiness to undertake various developmental projects in the province.

Meanwhile government has awarded the construction of the first ever radio station in Vubwi to Chipata trades institute.

The institute will supervise the construction works to be done by the former skills students.

And Chipata trades vice principal Christopher Zulu assured government of quality work as the trade school embarks on the construction of the Vubwi community radio station.

    • If thats not vote buying, then I the whole premise under which most opposition seats were nullified does not hold water at all. Why not wait until the after elections?

Any way Vubwi is already in UPND’s bag as the first ever seat to be won by UPND. Those people know that PF is trying to bribe them. Fortunately we the easterners are not as gullible as the northerners.

PF is delaying the by elections to avoid a humiliating defeat like the Katuba one.

    • @Wnzelu you can’t win Vubwi as UPND no
matter what! That seat belongs to MMD or PF. As for Katuba you got what belonged to you before. As a matter of fact PF increased its numbers in Katuba as compared to previous performances. You won that based purely on tribe. You campaigned for Katuba based on tribe with impunity. Bantu botatwe something!!!! But know that the Bantu botatwe won’t help

  1. It cant work! That is the problem with people who dont know what goes on in the construction industry. It will just be waste of money unless the students and graduates are employed as sub-contractors to the main contractor.

  2. Vubwi is not, Zambia. It’s madness to always be negative about everything jus because its a PF programme. Some of you will die after pf wins 2016 elections. The opposition in Zed is dead, all they talk about is sata nothing else.

  3. Good idea if well planned & implemented. Let your gvt also stop issuing work permits to foreigners for jobs that our men/women who graduate from these Trade schools can do. Its only in Zambia were u have expats as drivers, boiler makers, mechanics & other artisan jobs. Have a check at mines in North West Zed

  4. I don’t agree with the government about that. Government has a lot of job creation schemes in the pending basket.

+ where is it goin to get the money to pay the cooperatives when it is demandi for 60% of schools’ parallel education income?

  5. Whether or not its a vote buying scheme, its a good idea. Infact if this is how they campaign instead of buying beer for voters then at least some progress is made. If it proves feasible it can spread to other parts of the country. If it does not work, that should not discourage the creative process. One can learn from it why it did not work and how to do better next time. To work, however, it will need support and supervision.
