The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development FDD has charged that Acting Information Minister Mwansa Kapeya’s threats that anyone talking about republican president Michael Sata’s health and whereabouts risks being prosecuted is a bluff as president Sata is an employee of Zambians who demanding to be told the truth about his whereabouts and health.
Speaking in an interview FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said the public is not demanding to know the truth about the president’s whereabouts as Mr. Kapeya’s personal friend but rather as their president and whose money is used to pay for his trips and holidays hence the minister should stop wasting time with cheap political rhetoric and tell the nation the truth.
He charged that If the president is indeed on a state visit as purported by government spokesperson then ZNBC as a national broadcaster should show the public footage of the president’s arrival which has been the tradition when ever the president goes abroad as opposed to telling people that he has a letter of invitation from Israel.
“President Sata is an employee of the Zambian people and he is answerable to us if they are friends where they come from that is their friendship but the people of Zambia deserve answers; we want to know can ZNBC show us footage of the president in Israel.
“Mr. Kapeya should not be telling us that he has a letter from Israel. Mr. Kapeya has to know that president Sata is a republican president and its the Zambians who are footing the bills so he should not be telling us that he has a letter.
What we are requesting as FDD is for Mr. Kapeya to show as the footage of the president in Israel, can ZNBC broadcast the footage and secondly can we be told what the president will be doing in Israel for such a long period; which head of state goes to visit for over a month. Mr Kapeya should tell us which president of Israel Mr. Sata will be meeting as well as the nature of business he will be discussing because we know that Mr. Peres will be in the USA,” Mr. Mwanza said.
Mr. Mwanza further advised the PF to come clean as the risk of their lies back firing on them is too huge.
” The PF should not be trying to be too clever by lying to the nation because they risk scoring an own goal as the truth always comes out,” he added.
