Zambia stars no-show in SA cup action

Share

There was no joy for Zambia’s SA-based legion in semifinal Cup action over the weekend.

On Friday, Zambia captain Christopher Katongo did not play for his new club Bidvest Wits because his work permit along with those of all the foreigners at the club were not ready.

Wits beat Bloemfontein Celtic 4-3 on post match penalties after extra time following a scoreless draw.

Celtic defender Davies Nkausu came on in the 102nd minute.

On Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns lost 2-1 at home to Platinum Stars.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, midfielder Mukuka Mulenga and defender Hichani Himonde did not play.

And on Sunday, there was no action for striker Collins Mbesuma for his new club Mpumalanga Black Aces who were hammered 4-0 by Kaizer Chiefs.

Meanwhile, the league proper kicks off on August 8.

    • Man, you need someone out there in the UK to teach you some simple english if you can’t understand what you’ve written!!!

  1. All these is because of PF, that even football players are being overlooked in games. It can’t just be coincidence that they can’t all play.

    • With President Michael Sata’s health deteriorating rapidly to the point of non-performance of his official duties, the first family is urgently debating a plan for succession for someone to take over the mantle of Patriotic Front leadership, a source close to State House tells Zambia Reports.

According to the source, there are senior members of President Sata’s family from Mpika who harbour superstitious theories about his health, including the belief that his status has worsened for having gone against his Bemba ancestors by fighting against the chosen traditional leader Chief Chitimukulu, as well as his dispute with Henry Sosala. Other family members discard these superstitions, but say these rumours create pressure with regard to who is chosen as successor, the source says.
