Defence minister Edgar Lungu has advised the Zambian military to avoid insubordination while serving the country and to be loyal to the Commander of the armed forces President Michael Sata.

Mr Lungu said this when he visited military personal manning the Angolan border at Sitoti Military camp in Sioma district in Western province yesterday. The Defence minister is in Western province together with senior military officers to check on military staff manning border areas.

“President Sata who is your commander cares for you very much hence the reason he has sent me to visit you and interact, to find out from you any challenges that you are facing and see how best they could be resolved,” Mr Lungu said.

The Defence minister said Government was committed to ensuring that the Zambian military becomes the best in the region.

“We intend to equip the military with the modern equipment, state of the art technology and continue training you,
to become the best in the region,” he said.

Meanwhile Brigadier General Sikazwe appealed to Government consider recruiting more officers to beef up staffing levels. He said the staffing levels in the Army had dwindled due to retirements and death hence the need to recruit more.

    • The Zambia Army has failed to protect the President from enemies within PF.They have also failed to serve the Zambian citizens. In those days they were a force to reckon with now they are just a bunch of officers living in baracks serving at the pleasure of corrupt politicians.

    • Arakan, the Army is not the police or Special branch for the Presidents protection. He has enough protection, insults and political positioning is a democracies mandate. Obama is castigated by democrats too, read civics again. Also add R.E to know the deference between religions.

  1. Our military persons in pic, look malnourished.Defense spending needs to be reduced, just buy drones ,empower Zambians in agriculture sector, encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.

  2. Just listen to the tone he knwos that vintu sivilibwino time has come for them to go no time to mend the wrongs they have done @sata cares for you let me remind ka chakolwa lungu go and tell sata that pipo who voted pf those who cant kaba chizungu (as kamimbwa red lebs put it )they need food on the table abweshe imitengo ubunga, fuel.Stop saying those rubish @he cares for u bwali kukola sana pa long weekend.

  3. why frequenting barotseland which he claims there’s peace? is it not a sign that something big i about to happen?

    • There is always a group trying to splinter of in every nation on the planet. In the USA the south has been trying for 260 years. So let us not get giddy.

  4. Zambia military to be the best in the Region?? But why is every PF Minister hallucinating? Is hallucinating part of PF policy?

  5. He should actually say they should be faithful to the Zambian people,……guess that is what he meant to say.

  6. @Rasratednsteady The advice should be they should be loyal to the Commander of the armed forces It should not be personalised as being loyal to Michael Sata

  7. I believe that President Sata and PF should consider allowing the army to take over until elections. Absence of Sata is not working and people are getting restless. Please don’t let Zambia erupt into tribal violence. You can control this situation. Every citizen should be loyal to the government at present because we can not allow violence in Zambia.

  8. yes the army has to be loyal to the commander in chief; but where is he? we Zambians are talking of a president that has people speak for him on facebook etc but is never seen. IT IS LIKE ASKING THE mUSLIMS TO BELIEVE IN jESUS CHRIST.
