GOVERNMENT has given the Ministry of Home Affairs a go ahead to recruit extra personnel for deployment to border post areas in a bid to curb the influx of foreigners in the country.

Home Affair Minister Ngosa Simbyakula said Government had concerted to the increase in the establishment for the Ministry of Home Affairs by allowing the recruitment of extra immigration staff for deployment to border post areas.

Dr Simbyakula said in an interview yesterday that Government was alive to the challenge of manpower along border post areas.

“The challenge of manpower around border post areas has been with us for a long time and Government has responded by allowing us to recruit extra personnel for deployment,” Dr Simbyakula said without stating the approved figures for recruitment.

He said Government was seriously concerned over the presence of illegal immigrants in the country and was determined to regulate the influx by increasing security along border post areas.

Dr Simbyakula who attributed the current influx of foreigners in the nation to the country’s economic opportunities as well as the peace being enjoyed, said Government was putting measures in place to curb the problem of illegal immigrants.

He stressed the need to deploy extra immigration staff now that the country had more border posts than before.

Dr Simbyakula said Government could not afford to take any chances by permitting the continued influx of illegal immigrants especially in view of the current health threats such as Ebola.

“We have been given a go ahead to recruit extra staff for deployment to border post areas and we are only waiting for funding,” Dr Simbyakula said.

A number of foreigners have in the recent past been rounded up in various parts of the country in connection with various immigration offences.

  1. Oh, I thought the government had put a freeze on hiring during the current budget cycle. has this been lifted? If it is has , has the wage increase freeze been lifted too?

    • Border security involves not only immigration personnel, but the army and police because illegal immigrants don’t use official border posts to cross into our country. What do our soldiers do since we are never at war?

    • I THOUGHT THE GOVERNMENT PUT A FREEZE ON WAGE INCREMENTS. WAS IT THE HIRING OF PERSONNEL AS WELL? AND IS THE FREEZE PERMANENT, ANYWAY?

    • HOWEVER, THE GOVERNMENT MUST BE INFORMED THAT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN ZAMBIA IS NOT AS A RESULT OF PERSONNEL SHORTAGE IN THE CONCERNED GRZ DEPARTMENT BUT LARGELY DUE TO CORRUPT OFFICERS MANNING THE BORDERS. IN FACT IF THIS MALPRACTICE IS NOT GOING TO BE CORRECTED- MORE IMMIGRATION OFFICERS AND OTHERS MEANS MORE CORRUPTION AND MORE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND MORE SOCIAL AND CRIMINAL PROBLEMS IN ZAMBIA.

  2. Bwana Minister: you do not curb the influx of illegal immigrants by increasing the number of passport stampers; if anything you will just be increasing it, because more people will receive bribes! Immigration officials never patrol bush borders, if that is the route used by them illegals.

    • OH, OK! I DIDN’T KNOW YOU CONTRIBUTION IS JUST LIKE MINE ABOVE. FACT IS I DIDN’T READ YOURS BEFORE WRITING MINE. OTHERWISE IT’S POINTLESS SAYING THE SAME THING WHICH ANOTHER PERSON HAS SAID ALREADY. BUT, ALL THE SAME SAME WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN IS VERY TRUE.

  3. Employing individuals who may not be anything let’s work with our neighbouring countries to adress the issue of our borders which are very porous. Just look at Nakonde and Tunduma.

  4. Employment for more Lozys and Tonga now…..and only those who have relatives there. Sad me and my bro Katwishi who have no relatives in govt.

  5. We are one Zambia one nation so l don’t expect segregation during this wonderful of recruitment,if this has been case of injustice during this recruitment then that is not a good. Other wise justice must prevail when recruiting. God bless Zambia and Africa at large.
