UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has accused the ruling party of breaking electoral laws with impunity in the just ended By Elections. In a statement released to the media congratulating the winners, Mr Hachilema said that it was not easy to compete against a corrupt regime such as PF and expressed his sympathy with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and other law enforcement agencies such as the police that are doing their work under very difficult circumstances.

Fellow countrymen and women, elections come and go, but life continues.
Let me start by congratulating the winners in the past by-elections that were conducted in Vubwi, Kasenengwa, Zambezi West, Solwezi Central and Mkushi South, I say congratulations.
I should however note that competing against a corrupt regime such as the PF, is never an easy job because they freely break the electoral rules with impunity. Rules such as on the use of government resources and civil servant such District Commissioners.
We are also seeing a situation where party officials and ministers can now freely use Zambia Air Force (ZAF) helicopters for campaigns, a facility which only reserved for the President and his vice.
We fully sympathise with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and other law enforcement agencies such as the police that are doing their work under very difficult circumstances.
I wish to urge all our members and genuine Zambians never to give up on the need for a new constitution that will provide for a more focused leadership in the country that will be truly accountable to the voters.
As UPND, we know that the low voter turn-out in the just ended by-elections can only mean that Zambians are fatigued with perpetual elections since 2011 that the PF have subjected them at the expense of development and lowering the cost of leaving such as reduction in mealie meal prices.
In fact as UPND, we are asking the PF to immediately give the Zambians a new constitution and call for a general election so that a more responsible and representative government can come into office and deliver economic emancipation for our people.

It’s common knowledge and irrefutable that HH adopted a baby to encourage voters to vote for him in these last elections. Yeah? All we ask HH is to use the democratic process to effect his righteousness.
HH never behaves presidential nor patriotic. I mean he is making a statement so far out of Police Observation and comment on how they found the elections. Police stated the elections were peaceful. Here comes HH, and contradicts them and well tries to get ECZ on his side. He has not provided ECZ any complaint for investigation, and yet he alleges electrol fraud! Gift giving during elections is what the PF used to nullify all the opposition seats, and yet PF thugs dished out a lot of money, gifts including erecting a mobile phone mast just to buy votes.
You talk of the police, they have completely been comprised and are completely toothless to stop PF braking the rules with impunity. PF thugs have hacked each other to death but upto now no one has arrested. Do you really think we still have credible police left in Zambia? Only PF f00ls still think the police is credible .
As always HH is absolutely right and he does not fear to state the truth. Look the recent results and you will notice that PF lost in urban areas but were able to manipulate rural voters by abusing government resources and threatening the few rural voters with missing out in development if they vote for the opposition. In 2016 you won’t have enough helicopters to go round all villages.
I believe we have an independent Electoral Commission in Zambia. What we dont have is independent minds. The “Bemba death” celebration which took place in Solwezi where the Tongas won showed us that Zambians are still living in the stone age. Let the Tongas in UPND begin to work with all Zambians. Let them stop campaigning on the basis of ending Bemba rule.There is no way Tongas or even Bembas can rule as tribes without involving other tribes.

I am trying to make sense of HH’s statement. If the PF broke electoral rules with impunity by using government resources and District Commissioners, why then did they lose by such an embarrassingly large margin in Kasenengwa and why didn’t they defeat the UPND in Solwezi Central?
Those two areas are in urban areas where it’s not easy to manipulate voters.
HH has congratulated winners in MMD, PF and UPND in the just ended by-elections. That defines men and women who believe in democracy. We hope PF will not petition where they have lost for that has been the pre occupation of this failed regime when poverty is all over Zambia. Those who feed on PF will not agree that there is poverty in Zambia. Campaigning after dead line date by Sata and use of civil servants and government facilities will not do in 2016 general elections. Zambians have decided to change as they did with UNIP, MMD and short lived PF. Change is a must in 2016.

UPND Loss of its Zambezi – West seat to PF has really hit them so hard that up to now they can’t come to terms with it. PF managed to grab this seat much more easily than Mangango as the PF candidate beat her closest rival by over 2,400 votes unlike Mangango where the margin was about 700 votes. UPND must accept that Zambezi – West is no longer their stronghold and prepare themselves for a humiliating defeat in 2016,

There is nothing to worry about the Zambezi west seat. This loss could be attributed to an unpopular candidate who has overstayed. The Angolan refugees also contributed to the loss. Winning Solwrzi central is a bigger consolation than losing a small rural constituent.

Solwezi and Kasenengwa are urban or preurban areas and it is not easy to cheat heavily populated enlightened populations. Mukushi South is another area where the three major parties evened out on vote distribution because most of the people there are commercial farmers. PF should just do a reality check and stop celebrating hollow victory.

UPND must review its performance in last weeks elections and strategise for future elections. It is clear that since 2011 elections, UPND has not made any serious inroads in eastern province. UPND got 2 % of total votes in Kasenengwa and about 14 % in Vubwi constituencies .UPND can’t win a national election with this level of popularity in eastern province.
HH is not lying, the ‘corrupt’ PF government deliberately forgot to declare the 3 areas as no-fly zones so ZAF were everywhere. The ZCTU’s call too to civil servants to down tools was not heeded during campaigns! Ha! Ha!
