Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Davies Mwango says Edgar Lungu is the preferred presidential candidate because he possesses leadership qualities.
Addressing journalists in Chisamba today, Mr Mwango said Mr Lungu who doubles as Defence and Justice Minister deserves to become the sixth republican president because he is humble and hard working.
The Deputy Minister said Mr Lungu has what it takes to win the January 20, presidential by-elections because he is the desirable candidate for the people of Zambia.
Mr Mwango said it is very evident that the people of Zambia want Edgar Lungu to continue with the legacy of late President Micheal Sata.
Mr Mwango said even Mr Sata had great confidence in him to warrant his appointment to two senior cabinet portfolios in addition to the position of party secretary general.
He said he is not intimidated that UPND has kick started campaigns backed by veteran politicians Vernon Mwaanga, Malimba Masheke, Sketchley Sachika and other high profile people such as Maureen Mwanawasa.
Mr Mwango expressed optimism that peace will reign in the PF in order for the ruling party to choose Mr Lungu at the general conference as its presidential candidate.

One thing is for sure, whoever takes over from Sata will have a better education and a comprehensive grasp of the world around him, and that’s a plus for Zambia. To be fair to the late Cobra, his limited aptitude could only take him as far as his constructed roads went. Beyond that point, he was hopelessly crippled.
My friend, Politics has nothing to do with school because politics existed even before formal education existed. And it is central to every organised system of governance beginning with a household. Wisdom is more important, that coupled with timing and good Judgement. That’s what made Sata despite his limited schooling, out think a multitude of second and third degree holders in UPND and MMD combined, not to mention other small parties with so called educated leaders. Our HH needs to acquire a bit of that political instinct and Wisdom to make a meaningful stride for the top Job, otherwise it’s retirement from politics on January 25 th, Sadly.

As to late Sata trust in Lungu been evidenced by his appointment to head two ministries, happenings of past two weeks do speak for themselves.

I really would not be at ease knowing that the fate of the country of my birth is in the hands of a drunkard like Lungu. Although I should point out that I’m sure I will not die if Lungu in fact does become president. I thought I would die if Sata became president. As you can tell that fear was baseless..

Stale indeed! Salaula presidency in Zambia, anything goes backwards ever and forwards never being below average education levels on the continent assigns us to mediocrity in our choice of leaders. MCS had a challenge of choice among his “useless” lot and lumping portfolios on EL does not in any way mean he was the best to take over from him. Only in Zambia do we make stars of people who embezzle clients monies, whose pastime is gambling and guzzling beer!
