United Party for National Development (UPND) President, Hakainde Hichilema, has pledged to respect human rights and to free the media from government interference once elected as President of the Republic of Zambia.

Addressing journalists from the public and private media at Country Lodge in Mongu yesterday, Mr Hichilema emphasised that the editorial would be independent and woukld ensure that journalists are not harassed by politicians and police officers.

Mr Hichilema also explained that he would give persons with disabilities priorities for employment and business in order to uplift their lives and compete with the able bodied, adding that the disabled were citizens of this county who deserved a decent life, too.

He further promised that he would donate his presidential salary to the vulnerable towards their education.

Mr Hichilema also promised to deliver on developmental challenges such as low water supply, poor sanitation, lack of industries for rice and beef processing as well as sugar plantations in Western province.

The UPND president further stated that he would reduce mealie meal prices in the country and empower famers by reducing fertiliser prices.

Mr Hichilema, who arrived in Mongu yesterday, was in the area to launch his campaign ahead of the January 20, 2015 Presidential by-election following the demise of the incumbent, President Michael Chilufya Sata.

Upon arrival, he proceeded to Limulunga Royal Palace to pay a courtesy at the Kuta where he was received by Senior Indunas before holding private talks with the Litunga.

Mr Hichilema was accompanied by his party vice president, Richard Kapita, former MMD National Chairman, Michael Mabenga and other senior party officials.

  1. I still cant find an Edgar Lungu supporter to tell be his track record, achievements and ideas that make him deserve the presidency.

    • He is just wasting his time, western province has already decided to support heritage party. Viva general Miyanda!

    • To HH its a campaign of desperation anchored on promises, promises and more promises that he would realize them in 18 months. If Sata did it why not did it. LoL!!

He believes Zambians are so daft that they are accustomed to political lies to convert them. Good luck madala. With us its Peepepe!

    • Precisely. Lungu has absolutely no direction, no ideas, no ideology, nothing. He is being pushed by the tribal cabal who realise that another Bemba cannot win and given his affinity with Northerners, they think he will let them get away with their ill gotten wealth.

    • @Deep thinker

I love independent thinkers like you. They are a lot of Lungu supporter here, no-one has the nerve to challenge my post. You have accurately said it.

    • They say they want EL to continue with Sata’s legacy. Now what is that legacy? violence, corruption, confusion, thuggery culture, basically anything wrong.

    • @1.1 so Western Province has decided to vote for Miyanda?Interesting. Can you please name the executive of the Heritage party?
I wonder if you will because Heritage is a one man show. Good luck

    • @Vilifier
Edgar Lungu deserves to be the President of the PF party but certainly no PF candidate deserves to be President of Zambia.

    • Vilifier
I don’t think we can talk about Edgar ‘ s track record just as yet….let’s wait and see who gets nominated. ..and then we talk….

      I thank you

    • There seems to be total news blackout at the moment! What’s happening in Kabwe at the GC? Not even ZWD has any inclination as to what madness is ensuing out there. I urge all Zambians to vote with their heads and not their hearts. Head = HH and Heart = EL at the presidential by-election. Here is the clue. The head houses the brain that does the thinking. The heart in figure of speech houses emotions such as kindness and love. Those that vote for EL if he makes it through will be doing so through sympathy (sympathy vote) and those that vote for HH will be doing so through critical analysis and balanced thinking. PF have let the country down in many ways than one. No PF candidate will be exonerated from the lies they told us. GBM at least resigned his position but he is not electable.

    • @1.2 amongst HH’s promises the one that “he would donate his presidential salary to the vulnerable towards their education” is attainable and in all truth I do believe he’d do it! Care to know the man for there are benevolent things he has done and is doing that he is not blowing his trumpet about. Why those that know these facts can not testify confounds me. However it’s also true that when one extends for goodness it should not be used for self praise because when God blesses you abundantly it pays to share the blessings

  2. PF is dead Luckily enough we have Flight HH2015 ready to rescue us on 21 January 2015. I have bought my ticket if you want peace and prosperity come join me. Viva UPND and Viva HH.

    • Attention ladies and gentlemen, we regret to inform you that FLIGHT HH2015 has dedeveloped mechanical problems upstairs. Unfortunately, EL won’t be around too as he will be admitted into the rehab for detox tomorrow.

    • Ati peace and prosperity. ..those are UNIP slogans my friend. ….be careful otherwise Zambians will mistake your party for UNIP and am sure you don’t want that to happen

      Anyway

  3. Where is Dr. Canisius Banda? Ever since this launch of campaigns I’ve never seen him with HH or heard his where about.

    • I don’t envy Dr Cannisius Banda. With these alliances his potential position as republican Veep is no longer assured as it is being auctioned to the highest bidder.
In politics as you gain votes, you lose some, the critical thing is the balance of the gains and the losses.

    • Guy Scott is the future; black people cannot run a country; give us your companies; we shall hire u; pay u peanuts and make a killing of a profit when exporting minerals

    • Dr Banda was tasked to go to eastern province and organise the support for HH, like Namalungo and chibwe are in northern, Luapula and Muchinga provinces doing the same. They are all laying the ground for HH.

Stop speculating about UPND which is the most organised party. Even Nevers Mumba , kk are all behind HH for unity.

PF is still wallowing in deep confusion as at now , because majority delegates brought in are now supporting Lungu instead of Sampa and Kaseba who spent money bribing them.

Attanga, Scott and other presidential delegates are not yet at the conference.

There is more confusion to follow as the delegates want this done so they can return home as food is running out.

  4. H.H i have great respect for, given a chance the man can get us out of the rut this country has gotten into, we do not want to be governed by parties that are fighting each other.his sloggen though should be the one Kaunda had, ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION.

  5. @ Sipinya Ndongo
You are right Gen Miyanda is just wasting his time this is HH’s time. Only a fool can ignore this irresistible change. Viva Flight HH2015

  6. Livinstone and Mongu come to a stand still yesterday as thousands trooped to well come the 6th president of Zambia.HH arrived in one of his three choppers and rolled around town in his 81 land cruzers .Wina a zilila .VIVA HH VIVA haleisa Haleisa,Flight2015HH .I have know doubt HH is the next president.Even here were I am at PF convention spying and campaigning Many are saying we are moving to HH camp.We are ready to die for Zambia. We the real men made of iron.Zambian CIA.

    • so this man’s governance programmes are all based on PF failings? what are his IDEAS for moving the country to prosperity and employment creation? To me, there is nothing really that this man is saying. People, let us not be too impressed by these politicians.
So if there’s an outbreak of flu in the PF cabinet then HH will promise to avoid flu in his government? Shallow campaign strategy

    • Pipo
HH is just desperate. ..he wants to move into state house at all costs. ..he is just yaping nakusabaila maningi…and promises on top of promises…..guys sure…human rights issues mu Zambia……..and people that can reason with me know that this guy HH is just a time waster….Voting for HH is just as bad as staying at home on election day….this Man shouldn’t be allowed to rule Zambia…period..

    • @ Katondo boys

At least he is promising something which its totally alien in Panga Family.

By the way, why are you ashamed to continue with your usual “Saulosi” instead of this more populist “Katondo boys”?

Instruction from above or realization that three years of patronizing idiocy have affected your gray matter?

      Have pleasant dreams.

    • It s not a waste of time but a good strategy to keep the support base you have by prioritising the assurance to them before embarking on energising the new support base where more time will be spent.

In business , you keep the customers you have by enticing them first before attracting the new ones.

  7. Does HH ask his team what to say? Its like he can now promise any thing. Thank God Mosses (sata) left joshua(lungu) How can we surely vote for a man who is not consisted? Today he is obama tomoro he wants to continue where sata ended. No m going to change every thing. you have countries in the name of your companies do you respect their human rights?

    • Monde
They don’t call HH under 5 for nothing….he thinks Zambians are so dull that they will listen to anything……..
I have a lot of friends that started liking this guy…but now most of them have changed their minds coz they have realized that HH is an empty tin…too much noise. ..
What else is he going to do for Zambia apart from top up on his wealth. …..

Am appealing to all Zambians……January 20 PF

      I thank you

    • Oh HH is sounding more like Sata. Making endless promises everyday. But a colleague told me HH is now saying what the voters want to hear. He is positive because he, like Sata is now saying the language of the electorates. But what about what Zambia needs to develop.

    • Like two sides of the coin the Zambian population is comprised of the enlightened or call it the educated analysts and the unenlightened simplistic minds to whom political rhetoric of lies is enough to generate excitement. Thus when it comes to voting the enlightened will use their head while the unenlightened will use their heart. The sad fact though is that mostly the enlightened are outnumbered

  8. How free is your ZWD? How much do you pay your wokers? what did you do when you went to NCC if you respect new constituition? why do you fear convetion?

    • @ monde

Already run-out of what to say about human rights?
Shame, I was hoping that person of your intellect will enlighten us the uneducated peasants.

    • ZWD was banned by PF in Zambia and yet Sata and his team read it first thing in the morning. Just the other day PF members went into ZNBC to intimidate journalists to stop reading news about HH.

PF the worst violator of human rights.

HH ‘s promises are realistic. Is it impossible to reinstate human rights?

  9. Seriously some of you posters are morons, Zambia has plenty of human rights issues, a student is battling in hospital due to police brutality, some prisoners have not seen their day in court for 2 years, a lot of poor neighbourhoods do not access proper services out of discrimination. It’s either you are one and the same person or just freaking similar in pathetic reasoning.

  10. @S Ndongo do you own the people of Western Province! Another wrapped & unscrewed airhead! You think Miyanda can win the whole hearts of westerners later on the presidential by-election all of the sudden from his hidings from the fear of the Venomous Late Cobra!Where was he when the masses were being tormented by PF state police, lies, tribalism, nepotism, corruption & vices of bad governance! Surely every level headed voter will not waste his time on jokers & hibernators! Its Flight HH2015 chabe! Let those doubting this Flight HH2015 continue on their own rude shock as HH’s support keeps on swelling daily till 20th january, 2015.It a shame on those bloggers with crippled political analytical grey matter for even a toddler can see that its Flight HH2015 without any more peddled…

  11. @katondo boys.
You are always saying hh is desperate …desperate for what man?..hh is simply campaigning just like every candidate in the race to plot one. Politician make promises whether attainable or not and criticizing them simply a sheer waste of your energy sir or madam. Sata overpromised people tho achievied nothing.

    • Joxer
your screen name is hard to pronounce. ..

Ok my point is ku promisa sitilesa but osati ku promisa ma ilele….
You have said it right and I agree with you..HH is just being a politician….All politicians are the same….they talk a good game but do the opposite once they are given chance to rule.

So as for now…we have PF and I think it will be wise to stick with PF chapwa

  14. Which human rights is he referring to? Empty promises.
    Another promise: Encouraging street vending.
To him and his disciples giving undue advantages to the disabled means levelling the play ground.
This guy is full of lies too. and he does not seem to run out of lies. Just like the fallen ship!!!

    • Rude monk

  15. Lol, you guys have no.idea what is going on in Western province. The army has been beating and locking up people of western province because of the secession wrangles.

  16. For those that are asking for Lungu ‘ s record. …well I think at this time it’s not necessary coz he hasn’t been nominated yet….but if you want we can give you PF ‘s record. …just as Nevers Mumba for a copy of his yesterday’s campaign speech. ..he promised to finish what PF has already started. ….

    • I am one of those asking for Lungu’s record, and your response is clearly cowardly given.

Trust me Lungu will an easy opponent for any major opposition. What is good for PF is not necessarily good for Zambia

    • Lungu’s record is only known to PF and probably the Chawama cadres who are trying everything possible to intimidate Lungu’s rise to PF presidency! The known records are embezzlement of clients monies leading to suspension of his legal practitioners license by LAZ, patronizing gambling casino’s and love for alcohol which he himself admits to taking ‘moderately’ otherwise at national level there is no record of tested experience thus he too would be a trial newcomer to the presidency.

  17. In fact hh seem to know the problems of each region he is passing through campaigning and is telling people what needed to be done to fix the problem, unlike cnp bloggers who are simply criticizing with no alternative solutions to the issues affecting our people

  18. Any one keeping count of how many promises hh has made so far? I have been 108 and still counting and here is the latest,”if you vote me as president i ‘ll talk to god the rainy season will be starting in June.”

  19. HH went to play football with PF knowing that he cant beat lungu went early to ground while his friend was in a dressing room and started scoring. Those are not scores wait for a wistle

  20. Human Rights issues are multi-fasted & as such can not be comprehended by these illiterate(as Wynter correctly observed) PF kaponyish bloggers. Most of them are surely crooked like Musamba & kambwili including their Drunken Master Lungu. They are like their ill educated late President. They never completed their education-they prefer stealing & lies to being educated. Most of them are from the streets as bus conductors like; nsanda, gbm, mwaliteta, kambwili, mulenga, lawrence, lubinda & many others! So complex concepts are far beyond their grey matter.

    • Beloved people of Zambia, only God will give us the Promised Land-New Jerusalem and not a human being. Lets not jst keep on politicking, insulting one another with a view of throwing weight behind our prefered candidates forgetting that Jesus is the only answer to our problems in this world. Not long frm now, He’ll appear in the clouds of heaven to fetch his own obedient people who lived in the world but not according to the standards of it. When God promises jst as He has promised us, you are assured of fulfilment. Its different with a human being who does not know whether he’ll b alive the next day or not. In as much as we need an earthly leader, Jesus is the only answer. Don’t be cheated. God bless!

  24. Zambia dont waste your time with this peanut brain who thrives on tribalism. Those are lies he’s peddling and as a Zambian, you can only be termed an imbicile if you believe lies from an uncircumcised cow tit sucking infant

    • I personally want a rerun of the 90 days sitcom. As a pf cad-re I find it amazing u are glossing over that little bit. And surely we should believe that whole bunch of PF ministers who said sata was in good health.

  25. Icilema wants to sell the country for a song to the imperialist capitalists and fellow Masons. Don’t dare give him your votes.

  26. We shall see how Lungu does his campaign without the support of guy Scott. The election of Lungu is not the end of political squabbles in pf ,in fact it is the beginning of defections in pf. Pf will be buried after this convention.in fact this simply a body viewing gathering for the demise of pf.

  27. I don’t believe HH will give Zambians their much cherished constitution. Reason is that he is an interested party in the 2016 elections. He will try to delay and play tricks. RB will be doing his second and final term if he wins this one. In RB, Zambia has the rare chance to finally enact a people driven constitution. Such a chance has never presented itself and it is up to Zambians to be rational enough and make the correct choice. Let’s use this transition wisely

    • Good analysis Abbi . I wonder how many Zambians are thinking like you are right now. They are all drunk with ‘he was anointed’ forgetting all about the constitution.

  28. Zambians need to note that this is just a by election and the president from this election will be facing another election in less than 2 years. A transitional president like RB is the best the country can have. Otherwise people will be fatigued with elections and 2016 will register massive apathy. Also, Zambia could waste a whole 2 years in political campaigns at the expense of development. Think twice

  29. Katondo boys, you must be a staunch PF supporter without dought.

HH is winning come January 2015, he is Zambia’s 6th president.

If you don’t like it you stop!

  30. What is wrong with making promisms to the electorate. Only a dull politician would campaign without making any promises. All those criticizing HH for promising a lot should analyse the approach of presidential candidates who have made it – promises were an integral part of their campaign message.

  31. What separates us(UPND) from them(PF) is that, they stand for evil and we stand for good!!! Its simple to see that, all you nheed to do is rerad anti-HH comments and the anti-PF ones, you will clearly see the difference even if you are blind!!!

    • You are very dull you even see evil in infrastructure development. That is the problem of being tribal because you always think through tribe. May God DELIVER you

    • @ PIPO,I Think it is you who may require deliverance. This so called infrastracture development you keep talking about where is it kanshi? It is the responsibility of any normal goverment to build roads and schools but to some of you zambians its like its a favour by goverment NO.The money they use its tax payers .Do you know the annul wage bill for this goverment?

  32. I applaud RB’s comeback, but I can understand why some people are scared – he actually presents a real threat to win the election.

If there is another reason to be so upset about him running, what is it? If HH or the Cartel-backed PF think they can do better, then why not just defeat him in an election?

Isn’t that what our democracy is for?

  33. Time for Rupiah Banda is now. He was doing fine, had an economic agenda of development that was bringing good results, huge forex reserves, jobs, bumper crops and so on. He shall takeover to bring the growth agenda forward, grow Fr, Bwalya or anybody who is willing to join hands with him to take over from him 2 years time. RB for development. RB for growth. RB for jobs. RB for law and order. RB for sanity. RB for rule of law. RB for vision.

  34. Nafuti Reloaded, VIVA RB. Agreed with you brother. 41. @Francis, I beg to differ with you. Everyone knows that a presidential or general election is important because that is the time we are issuing fresh mandate to a group of people to govern us the way we want to be governed, so fatigue does not come in here. What makes people tired and therefore not turn up for voting is the meaningless parliamentary by-elections that PF subjected us to. These elections gobbled more money than anyone cares to count while adding zero value to the lives of ordinary people. Ministers, Deputy Ministers, PSs, DCs and numerous other minions cashed in big as they left their offices to go and campaign at GRZ expense. Guy Scott was perpetually on the campaign trail! This is what is nauseating to Zambians and this time around, change is around the corner.

  42. I like Today’s sports headline. ..” Zesco dismantle Nkana to lift 2014 Barclay’s cup”

    Katondo boys,
Love or leave it. Take it or leave it, haleisa haleaisa, hemulombwana, hwakubweengwa,.

  45. I dont expect uncultured pangarians to comprehend human rights. This country has seen an animal-farm governance system tinged with violence as a way of adressing dissenting views.

HH is the shining star, the Mosses to Zambia today.

  46. Its very unfortunate that people spend a lot of time politicking and insulting one another but can’t spend even 5 minutes to proclaim God’s goodness to the afflicated. Problems of this world will never end regardless of who wins elections but the solution only lies in the second coming of Jesus to put this world’s long existing problems to an end. Let’s rely on God’s promises and not those of man whose life is in the hands of the creator-to be terminated at any time. Jesus is coming again for His obedient people & this should be our focus. Fear God & give Him glory, He’s the only solution. Don’t misapply your energy. God bless!!!

  47. For anyone to pretend that there’s no human rights issues in Zambia is simply lying to themselves. Police brutality is a norm in Zambia. The rights of the opposition to assemble are consistently infringed upon during the run up to previous by elections. The barring of journalists to cover the opening of parliament brutal treatment and arrest of students without due process. The list is endless. Now to those accusing HH of making too many promises.
