Eleven political parties to vie for State House

Share

Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Irene Mambilima has revealed that eleven political parties have so far officially notified the Commission of their intentions to participate in the January 20 presidential election.

Justice Mambilima disclosed that the Commission has since extended the nomination days from 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th December 2014 to accommodate the number of aspiring candidates which has so far exceeded ten.

She was speaking this morning when she opened a meeting of presidential aspiring candidates at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

Justice Mambilima named the eleven parties as the Forum for Democratic Alternatives, Green Party, Forum for Democracy and Development, NAREP, 4th Revolution, UPND, UNIP, United Poor People of Zambia Freedom Party, People’s Redemption Party and the Movement for Multi Party Democracy.

She said a number of political parties have notified the Office of the Director of the date and time of filling in their nominations.

Justice however added that the Commission is yet to agree with the PF on the date of filling of nomination for their candidate.

“I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to those political parties that intend to sponsor presidential candidates and have not yet advised the Commission of the time when they intend to lodge their nominations to do so during this meeting. As we stated earlier, there will be no extension to the nomination time table on account of any political party not being ready as we are required to conduct this election within 90 dats of the demise of the President. The 90th day in this case is January 26 2015,” Justice Mambilima said.

She added, “The Commission is calling upon all political parties and other stakeholders to conduct themselves in a responsible and peaceful manner during the campaigns which is before, during and after the polls. All peace loving and law abiding citizens must realise that they each have a role to play to contribute to a peaceful transition through the conduct of a peaceful election. Any electoral malpractice should be reported to the Police, Anti Corruption Commission or any other law enforcement agencies.

    • Scared of the PF rally crowds now the cartel through the pastpaper is telling people the people seen at the rallies were from Lusaka. Honestly mr postman how many bus loads would you require to ferry that number of people? You won’t just give up it seems, you want to bring down Edgar at all costs- it’s a shame for a man of your calibre.

    • Mansa will be represented by myself…HH all the way…Twabepwa elo twachula pafula….Its Zambia United chabeee…

      Help Hope for Zambia..

Pf haven’t done so yet. She has also reminded Pf that there will be no extension.

    • Would somebody please tell whoever, that there is a difference between ‘filing’ and ‘filling’!

So far, I never filed my stomach.

  1. Justice Mambilima named the eleven parties as the Forum for Democratic Alternatives, Green Party, Forum for Democracy and Development, NAREP, 4th Revolution, UPND, UNIP, United Poor People of Zambia Freedom Party, People’s Redemption Party and the Movement for Multi Party Democracy

  2. Reports suggests Mumba remains suspended as ruled by the High Court following a decision by the National Executive Committee to adopt Rupiah Banda as the party’s candidate in the forthcoming Presidential Election.

    • Poor People`s party has a chance of winning this presidential election.Their members seem to be peaciful and logical.

They are not talkative like those for other political parties.

  3. Nevers Mumba today got infuriated whn he found Rupia Banda in the meeting. Thts end of his “illusions” of becoming a PRESIDENT.

Viva HH the ONLY man STILL STANDING.
    GOD LOVES zambia.

    • The battle for second place is between MMD and PF. HH/UPND is taking the presidency Viva #FlightHH2015. Just finished watching his campaign in Nakonde. I enjoyed his Bemba accent 😉

    • Battle will be between Haves and Have-nots. HH is representing the HAVES. It is up to the majority of Have-nots to decide -they want to be ruled by a person who accumulated wealth with questionable means and deprived majority of Zambians their mining jewel, Mwaiseni, Niec store, ZCBC, UBZ, Zambia Airways, all that could have been sold to management and employees were either closed down to pave way for the Boers, Glencore, Sun International, Vedanta, metal dealers and money launderers or given at throwaway prices to the hegemonic multinationals. The real contest is between PF and MMD.

  4. If Lupiya files for nomination even before voting, I will declare HH as new president of Zambia come 25th January,2015.

  5. Sure mwebantu 11 contenstants? This is the best way to make PF retain the presidency. By the way, which party is this?- United Poor People of Zambia Freedom Party (UPPZFP) awe mwandi kuwayawaya fye.

    • @ Umwauma United Poor People of Zambia Freedom Party indeed…. lol. I couldn’t believe I was reading it. Hope some of these parties be eliminated and that they don’t have enough money to pay and don’t have enough supports who are registered voters.

    • The party for uncle Muliokela who has seven ( 7 ) Degrees and if voted to presidency, he will give every Zambian citizen including Dr. Guy Scott a thousand kwacha ( 1,000 ) including all the babies. He will raise his nomination fees from donations within a minute and pay to ECZ, period……….all the best

  6. Justice Mambilima is casually with dates of this important national exercise. Dates of nominations and filling in of presidential candidates were set. This is government policy backed by law and so far no circumstances have occurred to necessitate an extension of any of the dates. It comes therefore as a surprise that Justice Mambilima is belaboring on reminding those parties that have not complied to this directive that include PF party.
What Zambians need is impartial judicial officers to serve all Zambians equally. Parties whose houses are in disorder will have themselves to blame Zambia is bigger than a single party. Other parties exist in name only and need to be ready to comply to requirements of the law. Extension for the sake of a party not ready is disservice to the nation.

    • The number of candidates has increased beyond that budgeted by the ECZ. They can only process 3 candidates per day so 11 candidates means they need an extra day. That, Aquilla, is what has happened.

    • Their is no extension sir,its called accommodation day, because we have 11 candidates.its 3 candidates per day,3*3=9.,so one day has been added to accommodate 2 presidential candidates.

  7. I smell a rat with Mambilima!!!
Why extend it. You can register 3 parties a day, group 4 small ones in a day and rearrange so that bigger don’t crush. Don’t you believe that SATA’s family (Miles away Sampa) is done and dusted?!!!
    Move on with HH

  8. Why should they extend and on Saturday of all days

    they insisted they wouldn’t

If parties are not ready that is their internal matter not national problem

    • It will be interesting to allocate Saturday 20th December to UPND. Let us see whether HH goes to file his nominations on a Saturday.

  9. There absence of PF can be explained. It seems Lungu’s walking stick has more vision for this country than….let the stick stand on PF ticket…..

A few quotes in recent history….

    “I have a dream….” – Martin Luther King

“Ask not what your country can do for you…” – JFK

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we” – George W. Bush

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall” – Reagan

“One Zambia, one nation” – Kenneth Kaunda

    “I have no vision…” – Edgar Lungu

    People vote wisely please.

Separate the wheat from the chaff.

    Chose class above trash. Always.

    Ta.

  10. Madam Justice Mambilima is not responsible for your lack of reading skills and comprehension.

    Our good lady is CLEAR.

I’ll break it down for the grade 2’s on this site:

    1. A party must notify ECZ of time of nomination but PF have not done so yet
    2. She has listed all the parties that have already done so
    3. She has reminded PF CLEARLY that there will be no extensions to the date.

    Capish????? Gad!

  11. we needed just about half of these parties to contest the election, if a party has no MP in parliament why waste resources to contest the election its almost impossible to run government. I expected to see the following on the ballot box

MMD, PF, UPND, FDD, UNIP, NAREP HP

That is all, the other parties are just personal things like my name should appear on ballot box, that is all. but no support.

Let those vying for president produce al least 100 supporters from each province, some will fail.
other parties can help to serve resources by with drawling.

  12. Remember EL has to first resign as an MP for Chawama because the current Zambian constitution does not allow some to be both MP and President at the same time……….What a gamble for Edgar. If he loses the Presidential election(oooohhh, after losing) he will be just an ordinary citizen………EL is taking a big chance for his political career because the Zambian people are resolved to change the Donchi Kubeba………,you can not hide or cheat anymore with your slogan. By the way what is your new slogan?????

  13. Out of 11 a number will fail to bring 20 supporters from each province. The competition must be flexible and ye strict. You bring 199 supporters and you are disqualified. Registration numbers must be used to verify origin of a support. Reg number can tell you where the person is from although they live in Lusaka. Eventually we will only have 3-5 parties and only 3 serious ones.
