UPND president Hakainde Hichilema visited orphans and the sick on Christmas day

Share

Christmas time reminds us all of the joy of peace and unity that we too often take for granted and which must be protected at all costs. As we gave thanks at Church yesterday morning, prayers for the unity and togetherness of Zambia were uppermost in my mind.

The fact that this Christmas we are in campaign season makes peace and unity a particularly resonant theme this year. As we enter the final weeks of the campaign I want to restate my commitment to fighting this election based on issues and mutual respect between candidates. We must resist provocation by those who would see us divided.

Another focus of Christmas day as always was charity, and after Church my wife and I visited patients and staff at Chingwere Clinic in Matero, and later an orphanage in Chisamba. It saddens me to see that in a country as rich as ours in natural resources and potential, we have yet to provide cheap and accessible healthcare to our entire people. In fact prices have only gone up in recent times.

The missing ingredient is quality leadership that unites our people to develop the country. The wealth and potential is there, but we need to manage it carefully. We need to invest in the right areas and cut waste elsewhere to deliver on the really important things such as healthcare, and what could be more important than the health of Zambian citizens.

We cannot speak about health without sanitation. The two go hand in hand, bad sanitation leads to bad health so it is a false economy to neglect the former.

Talking with the doctors and nurses yesterday I was inspired by their choice of noble profession and service. With the full support and respect of government I know that they can play an important role in helping us to move Zambia forward.

We finished our day in a more light-hearted way in Katuba where we watched a Christmas football tournament and greeted people at the market.

Thank you and God bless.

  1. It’s good to see our opposition leaders spending sometime with the vulnerable on Christmas whilst some popular unmentioned leaders were nursing hangovers on Christmas day!

    • @Gen, give credit where it is due. This is not his first time, even at the 50th independence anniversary he was with the poor.

Am not pointing fingers but EL was at a wedding and Dr. Nevers Mumba was at UTH.

    • Thank you Mr. President for the wonderful words and concerns on Christmas. This is what Christmas is all about. Spreading love and peace to the underprivileged and disadvantaged.

      Viva #FlightHH2015.

    • I sincerely hope all dear fellow bloggers had time out to spend Christmas with their loved ones. My Xmas was great, family Xmas dinner, a few drinks and several games with family. Not all of our people back home had a Christmas to remember and hence the reason I am back online to remind fellow UPND followers in the diaspora to call home and encourage their families to vote for HH. We have an opportunity to usher in a different kind of government going away from the last 50 years of learning and playing trial and error governing. We have to do away with the scourge of tribalism that is our bottleneck to real developmental progress as a nation. The PF have disappointed us greatly lest we have short memories! Together we can change this government and gauge HH going into 2016. VIVA HH!

    • That’s good sir but one question is are you SDA ? I ask this because SDA does not celebrate xmas. Are an elder in SDA , if yes then its good you are telling the SDAs that they are not Christians. Thanks sir for telling the SDAs to their face to stop pretending they keep Moses’ law while they have failed lamentably.

But remember that 20 January 2015 Edigar Lungu is in state house.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

    • You can’t buy voters with a simple christmas gift….there’s more to winning elections than perfoming some PHOTO OP on christmas day…

NO MATTER WHAT HH DOES, HH WILL NEVER BE THE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA.
….and what part of NEVER don’t you understand???????

      2015 vote PF ( Edgar )

      I thank you

    • Good morning Sports lovers across the 10 provinces of Zambia.
Coming from peaceful Christmas Celebrations I Want to thank the Acting President His Honour, Dr. GUY LINDSAY SCOTT, for pardoning my former workmate and my former Deputy Minister Steven Masumba, and also former Zambian High Commissioner to Nigerian sir George Mpombo.
This is a good Christmas present to well meaning Citizens and nationals.

    • The UK has just overtaken France as the 5th largest economy of the world and I am glad I have contributed to this great achievement and rest assured my motherland Zambia has benefited too. I just have to look at those Western Union receipts to add up the money I have ploughed into my beloved country – Zambia. This election doesn’t only affect the people at home. It affects us all – yes even you in the diaspora. HH means new constitution, new constitution means dual citizenship which means real empowerment and job creation which equates to vibrant economy and eventual eradication of hunger. Ladies & Gentlemen! I urge you yo make an informed decision and use your vote carefully by voting for Mr HH. He is humble, may be too humble, successful, bright, young, hardworking – Haisa Haisa!

  2. The incoming president. Keep up with the good work even if your enemies insult you. God will reward you sir.

    • Incoming President of what? HH is a hypocrite. He is a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church which follows Moses’ Sabbath and is against Christmas and Easter festivals.

  3. For sure SOME PEOPLE want to make us look DIVED BUT WE are NOT AS ACOUNTRY. Thumbs up ba HH continue doing

As UPND will knock PF down with a GREATER MARGIN.

  4. Thumps up Mr president that’s the way to go. I will never stop admiring you. The love you have for this country is very vivid for everyone to see. Thank you for making us understand the meaning of Christmas.

  5. HH has always being supporting the vulnerable & social functions in society. This Man truly is heading for greatness. He sponsors hundreds of thousands of pupils & students from different creeds countrywide. No wonder God is with him all the way & no weapon fashioned against him shall prosper.May our Gracious Lord Jesus bless him.

    • HH is a pretentious person. SDAs do not believe in Christmas and Easter. He is politicking to get into Statehouse. Where is the head of SDA Church (fake Bishop) to clarify, is HH following SDA Church beliefs or is in breach of the same when he congratulates others on Christmas? Is he right to admit that Christmas is one of the main festivals of Christians across the world?

  6. It is clear that HH loves this country so much. Let us give him our vote and allow him to use his fertile mind and energy to develop Zambia. I thank you!

  7. Publicity stunting at its best. (HH) and Mutinta, only we the wise can see through your pretence. the chap (HH) always has to force a smile with so much work. A man who undervalued mines at the expense of poor miners for a cut, can today talk about caring for the people, what a joke this tri(bal) f(ool)

    • @Kudos
If I were you, I’d change that profile picture. I know it’s not an avatar. It’s you.
That, plus the hate you spew, might make people believe you are kin to Beelzebub and make them turn away from reading your very informative (I hope you understand sarcasm) posts.

  8. Even at the time of Lord Jesus Christ there was great opposition to His attestation as The Saviour of the world, including Pharaoh. Good work is always opposed by opposers (evil men) as it smacks at their dark inhumane persona.
However, what God has ordained no human can frustrate it.

Go HH, that’s how your belief serving fellow Zambians and humanity in general.

    Zambia is behind you.

    • Where is Hh going to be president? HH is losing come 20 January 2015. Just continue living in denial coz you are used to that. That’s what you always do…..rate HH so high but he loses always. Any way you have 2016 to try.

    • You also just tell us that we tell him to his face if you fear him. So tell us why was suspended from UNZA in the second year? Were you attending satanic church with him while at UNZA?

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  9. If HH and UPND could shun away the Jubille (50 years) celebrations, and remember no one anticipated these elections, which person in his/ her right mind can be fooled by HH visiting the sick on Christmas?

Why didn’t he dedicate Jubille visiting the sick, instead he was praying for Sata to die? Indeed Mr Sata was spot on when he coined him as Under Five. HH and UPND thinks people are stupid and can’t through their desperations?

Infintu ni EDGAR Lungu, real humble and focused!

  10. Yes let HH say the reason he was suspended from UNZA! Zambia cannot allow a devil worshipper, HH, to be its leader no way. The man worships the darkness.

Critically look at him, the man can’t smile, it’s its not allowed by his masters, in Freemson!

    Abash devil worshippers.

    • devil worshipper…….blah blah blah…..and more blah blah blah. tomorrow, devil worshipper again….blah blah blah…..and more blah blah blah.

You’re boring at best. come up with something else. Please.

    • Tell Edgar to announce to Zambians who killed RUTH MBANDU. Anazikambila eka ati abaziba. By withholding that information, he is obstructing justice.

  11. If GOD is for you who shall be against you. Carry on with your good DEEDS HH. The reward awaits u come 20th. You have great vision for Mother Zambia

  12. Lady in blue , your demeanour is so apt for the occasion. Humble, inocent and kind standing beside that equally admirable person beside you (no, not the one on her right). The guy that has the suit on with his hands reverently clasped in front of him.

If I was homeless, hungry and cold and saw these 2, I would feel a burst of hope and hobble hurriedly towards them, one arm outstretched, my cruthches tap tapping through the potholes, knowing hope is at hand. It’s an aura they both emanate.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they knew each other?!

  13. Dear lovers of peace, credible persons, lovers of development forming the government of unity, I would like to remind you that there is some insincere persons who formed government using force and they still want to do the same, are using my name “WISE” in watchdog to as the same in Lusaka times to write negative comments about our credible leader HH. That’s not me real Wise.

  14. MMEMBE ADMITS EDGAR WILL WIN
In its Editorial on Boxing Day, The Post has admitted that the PF President Edgar Lungu is likely to win the forthcoming elections.
“This is what the Zambian people should brace themselves. The chances of Edgar winning are high not because of his own popularity. The reality is those who voted for Michael and the Patriotic Front are not yet fully demobilised. They are still likely to vote for the Patriotic Front Candidate”
The Editorial also cautions against the false and premature excitement that usually grip the UPND Camp everytime they enjoy a small bubble of support.
“So the UPND and those who support them should not start celebrating. The Patriotic Front is weakened but not out of the race. Of course a lot of work need to be done by Edgar and his…

  15. GOODBYE HH2015. Never again will we see you in an election. Campaign for the last time. Its history on your part. Bye..continue farming.

  16. If you have an eagle eye like me, you’ll notice an insecurity in some bloggers. As soon as they post a comment, there’s an upvote, in so little time, it’s not enough for anyone to have finished reading their looooong, booooring, repetition of the same thing.

It smacks of small balls and insecurity, voting for yourself. I can tell whenever you do it.

  17. LUGUBRIOUS
    …mournful,gloomy,sad,unhappy,doleful,glum,melancholy,woeful,
    miserable,woebegone,forlorn,somber,solemn,morose,dour,cheerless,

    • Katondo boys,

Describing your opponents negatively for the sake of it is not helping anyone not even you.

Bring out issues affecting the country which you think are negatively affected by their purported demeanor as you put it, and big minds will respond to you.

It should be issues that affect all of us as Zambians, I believe that is our interest right now.

  18. Katond Boys, Aka Emmanuel Mwamba.
You were fired in your job by Michael Sata, what else can you be to Zambia. If Sata with his foolish ministers fires you, you should be ashamed to blog trash if if its of any value to Zambia.
You are on the side of losers.

  19. This is a great display of statesmanship. I see some few commentators are tagging this with religion.
One does not have to show compassion and identify with the poor because of one’s faith. If SDA does not identify with the poor, what a poor faith tradition.
I’m increasingly convinced that HH is the man who should be the next president of Zambia. He knows the economics–and all the poor need someone who knows how to help them put bread on the table.
PF is a visionless party. If it can hide the health of its former president, can be disorganized in fielding its candidate, you can imagine how confused their policies will be and have been! Go HH

  20. I am Babtist but if Catholics invite me I will go because we are all christ followers. If you love christ you will gather with other fellow christians. If HH was somewhere near bread of life and the holy spirit led him to go there then why not? you who claim to be christian’s don’t you know that christian’s do go to inter-denominational meetings? Does it stop them from being Babtist’t or SDA’s? Just find something sensible to tell the voters. Tell the voters what development projects you have in mind to implement for zambians. We are tired of this cheap politics.

  21. Katondo boys you are not just A demon itself but satan incanate himself. For all my life I have never met a bitter Zambian like you. Politics is selling your parties plans and ideas for the country not exchanging insults. Katondo boys you have . sold enough insults for PF . Can we talk about the plans to take zambia out of this poverty??

    • Maureen Mwanawasa meets Fred Mmembe.
Former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa on Friday 26th December 2014, took time to meet Post Editor Fred Mmembe. Maureen who arrived at the Post premises at 15:30 stayed on until 17:15hrs.
Maureen is suspected to have gone to plead for political space for the UPND and Hakainde Hichilema.
Maureen was driving a Toyota Hilux ALZ 1096
