MMD status

Part of the MMD Choir

There appears to be some misunderstanding among our rank and file concerning several topical issues currently being discussed in the public domain and this internal memo is intended to provide the party’s official position, so that correct information is urgently disseminated to the general membership.

I wish to inform the general membership, through you, on the following issues:

1. PURPORTED ALLIANCES

First and foremost, the entire membership must be made aware that the MMD is an independent going concern, a stand-alone legal entity currently in no political alliance with any political party either the UPND, the PF or any other. We are aware that some Members of Parliament have taken individual decisions to align themselves and endorse one of the two parties.

The official position of the party is that we would like to warn all such MPs or any member of any MMD Party organ campaigning or supporting any party apart from the MMD that this is a punishable offence and tantamount to crossing the floor and is therefore in breach of both the national and MMD party constitution. Anyone engaging in these activities does so at their own peril and the party reserves the right to invoke the relevant constitutional clauses to mete out disciplinary measures to such members.

2. THE FORMER PRESIDENT, MR RUPIAH BWEZANI BANDA

I wish to clarify that following the Supreme Court ruling on 18th December, 2014, the issue of the former head of state has been put to rest and brought to an abrupt and decisive end. The Supreme Court ruled that Mr. Banda CANNOT AND IS NOT the MMD Presidential candidate and ruled that the official MMD Presidential candidate is DR. NEVERS SEKWILA MUMBA.

This therefore means that anyone from now on supporting the candidature of Mr. Rupiah Banda could be held in Contempt by the Supreme Court and disciplined by the Party. I therefore wish to inform all members of our party that there should be no confusion on this matter going forward.

The illegal means that the former head of state wanted to use to usurp the MMD Presidential candidacy are illegal and unconstitutional. All structures must now be aware that Dr. Mumba is both our Party President and the MMD Presidential Candidate and we must all now vigorously campaign for him.

The MMD is the only party with a clear manifesto and clear economic policies and our candidate stands a notch above all the candidates and it is imperative therefore that we go flat out to campaign for our candidate Dr. Mumba.

3. NATIONAL PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN PROGRAMME

We wish to inform all structures that the Party has put together a National Campaign Programme and Campaign team that includes provincial campaign managers. There is no cause for alarm or worry.

As a party, we have quickly picked up our campaign from where we left off and all logistics are now in place. I am happy to report that we have concluded briefing all our structures all across the country and we have rolled out the full Presidential campaign programme which will take our candidate to every corner of the country. We are now dispatching campaign vehicles for each province and all the campaign materials needed for a successful campaign.

I wish all of you a successful campaign.

HON. MWANSA MBULAKULIMA

  1. No matter what you say, MMD is dead. You can whine, complain, shout until your face gets blue, that is not gonna change the fact that MMD is dead. Finito!!!

    • Well well, this is very sad for MMD! The bulletin is poorly written and sounds very desperate. The MMD MPS supporting the other two major parties have no confidence in Dr Mumba. It’s not rocket science that they feel in a democracy they should state how they feel. You cannot force them. These MMD MPS will help UPND to govern by supporting the HH government in passing bills for the next 18 months until the next general election when MMD MPs can stand on UPND tickets as all seats come up for renewal in 2016.
The bulletin should not have been written in a threatening manner but should have remained informative. I urge Dr Mumba to back HH to save MMD and enter into government of national unity with UPND. This should be differentiated from forming an alliance or coalition. It’s MMD ‘SOS’

    • What I mean by government of national unity as opposed to a coalition government: In a government of national unity, Dr Mumba will informally support UPND as most of the MMD supporters have already aligned themselves to HH. This will allow Dr Mumba to regroup for 2016 hopefully. He cannot form a coalition or alliance with UPND as he is standing on a very weak spot. In a government of national unity, MMD MPs will align with the HH government to pass superior bills and enact the new constitution in readiness for the general election of 2016. In that election , MMD MPs would choose to either stand as MMD or any other party of choice. For the support rendered, some of the MMD MPs will be made ministers of key ministries in the HH government of national unity. That way MMD will survive.

    • @MM we are not interested in you telling us about parties being alive or dead. No major party has ever died in Zambia. This is a case of democracy. Zambia chose democracy in 1991 and we are a multiparty state thanks to MMD the only party with democracy in it. Parties undergo a transformation and MMD let alone UNIP will undergo transformations to rule again. It is healthy for parties to exist together and compete on policy.

Cadres in politics are welcome as long as they understand what sort of politics Zambia practices. We are a unique nation with tolerant views towards one another and and that must be embraced by all Zambians.

    • You UPND supporters are so dull and unrealistic. You wish MMD was dead so that you can steal its supporters. If MMD is dead, why are you courting its leaders? Flight HH2015 shall crash faster that you can imagine.

  2. I want either EL or HH to win the forth coming by- election.
However, it is not good for MMD MPS to support either of the
two , when their party MMD is also contesting.

Whose followers are they? Edgar`s or Hichilema`s or Never`s?
If they gather for PF and UPND but scatter for MMD, can you
say they are faithful MMD members?

Well, today its Nevers crying about the prodigal sons and daughters
but tomorrow it will be EL and HH, no doubt about it.

You reap want you sow and accept.

  3. The status of Movement for Multiparty Democracy is that its vision is in the past, hence has gone passed the use-by date.

    • You should have heard the speech by Mumba in Chinsali. The guy was saying Zambia needs a Christian president. Flashback: FTJ was as Christian as they come. Been there, done that!

  4. Ba Mbulakulima, i think you are not a gentleman i knew in you. surely you can’t see that Nevers and his boy Bowman have finished the party? Which campaign national program are u talking about. To me i can now agree that Nevers just wanted to block RB coz he has stopped campaigning after seeing the truth on the ground. Leave RB alone. U have just finished this party yourselves. Just finish eating the last coins in the account. Iam a sympathizer but i feel let down by you lack of vision even after genuinely advising u and Nevers. Wait and see and mark my words.

  5. @Mabisi 1st time Ive heard Gen Miyanda’s name comeup but thats what this country needs- a corrupt-free Miyanda with a sound political judgement! Please let us know how we contribute and share from a true patriot how we can take this country forward. General please send me a text on +447932775870 and l will call you right back! Viva Gen Miyanda!

  6. Mr Mbulakulima and your bosses, why are trying to kill MMD? How can one hold a media briefing just to talk about RB? This what Kaunda used to say or refer to people like you as “frightened little men”. RB is no longer an issue, so concentrate on something else otherwise you are just fighting the ghost of RB. Concentrate on resurrecting your party which is on its dying bed, thanks to people like you, Chitika, Manchungwa and Nakachinda, not forgetting Numero uno Mfundisi, Nevers. Why do you want to make this another bemba party? Don’t you learn? Your attitude is wrong on running this party. You need to develop another strategy, not the your present strategy. You are burying the party with this route you are taking. Reflect! You Mbulakulima dont think MMD is FAZ.

  7. Go go Dr Nevers Mumba….thanks Mr Mbulakulima please keep it up.Can somebody tell me how these parties performed in 2011? PF had 41%, MMD had 35% and UPND had 17%……It’s laughable that some of these parties think they are on the way to landslide victory even when numbers are there to show.Talk about the by elections we have been having…..can somebody tell me the total aggregate for individual parties? Winangu azalila… Dr Nevers Mumba this is your time .. Go go go
