The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) continued its New Hope election campaign in North-Western Province after touring Kabompo and Chavuma on Saturday, having visited Mwinilunga and Zambezi on Friday.

Presidential candidate Dr Nevers Mumba used the occasion to introduce “Town Hall” meetings for the first time in Zambia.

The Town Hall meetings allowed Dr Mumba to interact closely with people in an informal setting and spend more time listening to them.

Dr Mumba pioneered the Town Hall meetings because he feels that at rallies, it is mostly mob-psychology at play where politicians engage in a one-way communication, talking down to the people while the people’s specific needs and sufferings are not heard or understood.

In Kabompo and Chavuma where Dr Mumba continued his core message of bringing New Hope to Zambia, indoor Town Hall meetings were held where he asked the electorate to tell him what kind of President they want to rule Zambia and the sort of things they expect of the incoming president.

One elderly man in the Kabompo Town Hall meeting told Dr. Mumba that he has suffered a lot in recent years due to the poor agricultural policies of the Patriotic Front government due to late supply of agricultural inputs, the high cost of fertilizer which before was very affordable, and the extremely late payments by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

He implored Dr. Mumba once elected to bring back the way the MMD government was running agriculture, by supplying inputs and making payments on time.

The MMD campaign team in North-Western Province is headed by Mr David Kapwepwe and the National Campaign Secretary is Mr Emmanuel Chihili, the former Mayor of Solwezi.

The MMD New Hope campaign team flew from Chavuma early this morning to Mongu, Western Province where the team will immediately pay an early morning courtesy call on the Litunga before attending a church service at the Pentecostal Assemblies of God church, followed by radio talk shows on both Radio Lyambai and Radio Liseli.

Provincial Campaign Manager Mr. Kamwengo Kamuti, who is also MMD NEC Chairman of Transport and Communications, has reported that the province has been well prepared for the arrival of Dr Mumba.

This contained in a brief made available to the media by the MMD campaign media team.

    • If Nevers was Tonga and Bembas were Tongas, Nevers would not be having problems when it comes to support. He’s the only viable Bemba candidate in this race and most of you will agree that he has very little or no Bemba support at all. This proves that Bembas are not tribal like some Tonga bloggers and there Watch-Imbwa affiliates have been preaching.

  1. Barotseland has suffered at the hand of both MMD and PF (We do not forget dear KK’s outright hatred)! Why should we encourage our people to give you a chance? What is your take on the BA ’64? Give us, first, a clear road map before you ask for our votes, lest you treason us after cheating us of our vote.

  2. When yu go 4 interviews dressed in bush swag, while it is raining and your granny is planting beans in the village, if Mike Tyson beats Cathrine Phiri while the Zambia Railways train is passing, can it surprise you that water can not come out from taps?

  3. I like the concept of town hall meetings. It works in developed democracies. However, mostly it is for localised audiences where mayor, district commissioner etc are meeting local pipo.

  4. Good to see Ba Mumba on compagn trail. Wish you well. Just don’t overpromise. Otherwise you may improve better than HH. Try your luck by giving realistic promises and minding that you are talking to grown ups able to reason with you.
Some camp promised free edu to university level, bring back subsidy, reduce tarriffs without realising national budget has rule of double entry which must balance on both sides.

UPND has spoken more about how to spend rather than on how to make more. We are not fools to believe such chloroquin with short lived sugar quotes. Green party even has a better manifesto because it addresses where money will come from.

  5. Town hall meetings were there before independence. The ANC used them to campaign, even UNIP. Then the National Party used them in the early nineties. This culture of not having a record of history has led to so many distortions. No wonder thieves & kaponyas are now heroes.

  6. Thats the way Dr. mumba dont be intimidated by croweds that attend lungus or hh meetings. some of these are one and the same people. One on one works more effectivy. All you need is more foot soldiers. Of the two Edger and HH you are the most experienced and credible. Its a pity that most zambian voters are not analytical and can vote for anything. criminals drankers satanists and the like while rejecting a ligitmate christian begging for votes. Be asured sir that I and my family will give mmd and Dr mumba a try.

  7. Dr Mumba should first fire all these useless people like Felix Mutati, VJ Mwanga, Maureen Mwanawasa, Katele Kalumba from the party and rebuild MMD for 2016. these chaps are traitors. there are job seekers. who do not want people who are mere job seekers. in fact they are political prostitutes who have no shame in sleeping around. very unfaithful spouses. just because there is storm in the home does not mean you should go and ly with HH. very foolish indeed. Keep on Mumba!
