UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has hailed the role the men and women in uniform have played in shaping the destiny of Zambia.

Mr Hichilema notes that the men and women in uniform have greatly contributed to keeping the peace and unity the nation has enjoyed for the last 50 years.
He says by remaining resolute in upholding the democratic values of the country they have shaped the destiny of Zambia.

Mr Hichilema however says he is saddened to hear of the number of challenges that security personnel face in both their operations and welfare provision.
He states that such challenges must be tackled head on by government who have an obligation to support them.

The UPND leader says the biggest challenge for many has been the removal of food rations at a time when the price of mealie meal and essential commodities have more than doubled and even tripled.

Mr Hichilema says the UPND in government will take bold steps to alleviate hunger in the security camps.

He says he is confident that through his party’s policies to better manage the economy and proper investment in agriculture they will also be able to secure greater reductions in the food price in the medium to long term.

He adds that the proposal for government to set up a housing scheme where houses are provided to service personnel and they pay for the cost over a period out of theur wages is reasonable and deserve serious consideration.

Mr Hichilema has further pledged the UPND’s commitment to providing the men and women in uniform with further education and skills training so that they are well equipped and supported to perform their duties.

This is according to a statement issued by the UPND media unit.

  2. Those are good plans HH you have for our men in uniform…….but I am for the idea that you first deal with the ultimatum UPND gave the defense chiefs concerning the meeting which they had with Guy Scott where Garry Nkombo allegedly accused them of treason……..I bet you’re too proud to tender an apology.

  3. Can someone like Katondo boys explain this to me.

So one can vie for president when on suspension?

If this the case, then what a daft PF Constitution it is.

  4. Great vision for Zambia indeed, you are so VISIONARY MR HH. The men in Uniforms ve really MENTAINED PEACE through frm KK to Sata Govt.

God Loves Zambia. GBM welcome once again !! kiikiki….!!

  5. It is in fact possible that with some revisions to the pension rules, our men and women in uniform can pay at least 20% of the purchase price of the house from their accrued pension contributions and the balance being paid overtime! Singapore did this in the 1960s. Coupled with improved GDP growth above 9%, decency will return to our citizens. How can you have a country with such disorganized/chaotic home ownership? Everyone deserves some decent housing. Go HH Go. We need an economic manager to address poverty! PF KUYA BEBELE!

  6. Morale boosting message comrade HH. After all you had a feel of life in a military contonement as a recruit during the ZNS high commandoes 06 Ndola intake of 1980 , so you have have an idea of what soldiers need.

UNITED Liberal Party (ULP) president Sakwiba Sikota yesterday said UPND president Hakainde Hichilema is not honest in his offer of reconciliation because he has failed to deal with tribalism in the party. Responding to Hichilema who on Tuesday invited him to rejoin UPND in the spirit of national unity and development, Sikota said Hichilema’s offer to the leadership and membership of ULP to rejoin UPND was not genuine and was laced with thorny issues.

Sikota accused Hichilema of playing to the gallery by using the press without apologising to the people that suffered at the 2006 UPND convention and those who were still affected by the alleged tribalism in the party. He said if Hichilema really wanted…

  8. The PF clenched fist symbol represents Violence and nothing but violence. There is nothing we have seen of the PF in 3 years that relates this clenched fist symbol to national development, nothing at all but we have seen only violence. Zambians better run away for cover, for safety once you see or meet people raising a clenched fist, they are vilolent. Cant you see the men who mean business with respect to national matters of development, check HH speak of the men and women in uniform.

    • @T.Hatembo………. PF:The raised fist (also known as the clenched fist) is a symbol of solidarity and support. It is also used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance, or resistance. The salute dates back to ancient Assyria as a symbol of resistance in the face of violence.

Guys, let me tell you why hh will lose these elections, hh has three strong holds namely southern province, western province, northwestern province, now if you add the number of registered voters in these provinces, they cant march lusaka and copperbelt provinces, lets just face the truth lusaka and copperbelt cant vote for hh, what about eastern, northern, muchinga and luapula all these are for EL, central can go to hh but the number is too low, and dont forget that if you vote for upnd, then william banda is back,
