Former Republican President Rupiah Banda’s son Andrew has responded strongly to his father’s statement alleging that he insulted the former head of state.
Speaking during a press briefing by the UNPD in Chipata today, Andrew said he has never insulted his father and that he cannot be paid to do so.
Andrew said he has high regard for his father and consequently charged that his father is being misinformed by his agents who he said want to eat from Mr Banda.
He stated that is unfortunate that Mr Banda wants to listen to his agents and not his own son.
Andrew stated that he has been going through a hard time with some members of his family who he said have been issuing unpalatable towards him.
“I have been insulted, threatened and even attacked my distant relatives are behind the threats. But I want to make it clear, I respect my father but I don’t support the political stance that he has taken,” he said.
Andrew also stated that his relatives have been saying bad things about him and dragging his mother into issues that do not concern her.
“They say my father has been saying: ati ndine mwana wamuchigololo (that I was born outside wedlock), it is very hurtful. Former President Banda is my father and I adore him but those surrounding him are misleading him,” he said.
And former PF Eastern Province chairperson, Lameck Mangani said he is disappointed with the stance taken by the former head of state saying Mr Banda is not supposed to take a political stance but instead provide guidance to all political parties as a former head of state.
Mr Mangani said at the same briefing that former President Banda may be bruised in the political arena as he has decided to align himself to a political party.
Mr Mangani said the UPND is assured that it will carry the day in the election scheduled for January 20, 2015.
Former President Rupiah Banda last Sunday said the UPND was giving his son Andrew money in order for him to issue derogatory statements against his father.
Mr Banda made the accusation when he endorsed the PF’s Edgar Lungu in the forthcoming Presidential election scheduled for January 20,2015.
No he has not insulted the dad. Children don’t insult fathers. It’s unZambian whatever the circumstances. These allegations and insinuation are not acceptable in this important political process. There has just been a tiny bit of a disagreement on a political principle with the dad who has strayed away. Others claim he has lost it!
If you believe RB is inconsequential, ignore his move and start celebrations of victory. The more you lament and insult easterners with all insults as UPND has been doing, the harder the door closes. Mangani, Maxwell Mwale and Joel Mwale cannot move voters anywhere.
RB please don’t sink so low as to LIE that UPND has given Andrew money to insult you. You have failed to hijack the MMD and you thought you would get even by endorsing PF. But you know now that you were misinformed. High Profilers are endorsing HH because of his consistency and clear message of Hope and Help. Your son saw this and got onto FlightHH2015.

Well said Pretty!! It really is a matter of saving face for the former president Banda in endorsing Lungu. As you righly point out, Andrew was bang in order when he advised his father not to hijack the MMD presidency because it was not the right thing for him to do and was blinded by the people egging him on. Banda has brought redicule upon himself and will not be remembered as a former statesman due to this childish and very greedy behaviour that he has shown. I think he should also be stripped of the right to be buried at Embassy Park because he now is just an ordinary citizen. How could an old man, a man who once governed the lives of almost 15 million people reduce himself to a pauper and try to engage himself in slanging match with his own son? What do the Easterners think?

Just in case you are just waking up to Andrew; he has always been his father’s most vicious critic. Even when his father was in office, he did not agree with some of the things his father did and he made his thoughts public. RB would save himself from constantly embarrassing himself by listening to Andrew.

Andrew joined MMD during the Chiluba era, much to vicious attacks from his father and distant relatives who were still aligned to UNIP. He made the right move then and he has again made the right move. Didn’t his father eventually became President under MMD ticket? The man moved from being a staunch UNIP to MMD to PF and I hope he will go back home to UNIP and retire. Andrew has never relied on his father for anything (ask people close to him).
Only you can control your success and happiness. Work hard and be a good person for its own value, not from fear of an imaginary god or belief in useless annointing/magic oils and con-men “prophets”
UPND claim they are a clean party. Andrew Banda is a convict just like Mpombo and Masumba. They also have convicts in Katele Kalumba and a drug baron in VJ. So how are they different from the PF? Let’s bring in people who are fresh with fresh ideas like Chipimo. At one point I thought Milupi would make a good leader but these election has shown that he is not thinking properly as he is sharing the stage with convicts and liars. He is not different from RB.

Those of us who are following political & social events can attest to the fact that Andrew Banda has been consistent in advising his ageing father on his (RB) miscalculated political agendas & Andrew has been vindicated recently when RB lost it to Mumba.Now again, RB is losing with Lungu of PF as the majority voters have suffered a lot but RB & his gullibles can not notice this due to blood monies which is blacking then.But,I think its God who want RB & PF to pay back to the people through campaigning before losing just like what happened to the other 11 PF presidential candidates-They had to pay back a bit.Remember,God is good all the times.
Andrew pleaded with RB to stay away from politics but he refused to listen till the Supreme court stopped RB (Andrew was right). Andrew is pleading again because most people in our society take advantage of older people and there are those that will milk RB later dump him at Andrew’s door step. Andrew is one of afew responsible children with the father’s best interests at heart.

If I was Andrew Banda, I would not even mention about my father in campaigns because doing so in a negative way is inviting a curse upon himself. Remember the story of Akan in the Bible who had stolen something and had carried a curse. Akan’s curse made the whole congregation of the Jews difficult to move and find victory. This man Andrew is carrying a curse that will make UPND not win any election. Andrew should know that his father is an earthly god and deserves respect.
