Acting President Guy Scott has commissioned the construction of the Monze-Niko Road at a cost of K250 million under the Link Zambia 800 project.

The 74 kilometres stretch will be upgraded from gravel to bituminous standard by a company called Unique Construction and Buildcom.

Dr. Scott braved the heavy rains that hit Monze to the delight of Monze residents who turned up at the historical Shamulwa Mamba in Monze district to witness the ground breaking ceremony.

Shamulwa Mamba is the place where the African National Congress (ANC) was re-launched in 1953 to spearhead the liberation struggle for the country.

Dr. Scott said the Monze-Niko Road will provide an important economic and social link that will open the area to development.
The Acting President said he was happy that the Patriotic Front (PF) administration has achieved what other regimes had failed to achieve.

Dr. Scott said the PF will be remembered for more than 100 years for the massive infrastructure development it has put up in the country in the last three years.

He urged the chiefs and members of parliament in the outlying areas to use the roads to bring prosperity to the people in the area.

And speaking at the same occasion, Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga said his ministry will closely supervise the project to ensure it is completed by the end of 2015.

Mr. Mukanga said the road will provide the much needed connectivity between Monze and Namwala and ease the movement of people and transportation of agriculture produce.

The Minister said government is working hard to connect all provincial centres through the link Zambia 800 project.

And Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe commended government for embarking on the road project that will better the lives of the people in the area.

    • Isn’t this the much loathed for United Zambians and their tax delivering all these landmark developments? This is when bantustanism in its specialization sectarian vision is entrenched and taking bantustanism and insults on united Zambians to a whole new level with endorsements from all SP chiefs against a united Zambia developing the province.

    • Last kicks of a dying horse. Even MMD tried last minute commissioning of roads which were finished by PF and PF think that most roads finished were started by PF.

How ever this is a good move which people well come but its not enough to win the hearts of the people because it does not provide sustainable employment for youth.

PF ‘s commissioned roads have either been abandoned or have stalled due to lack of caused by poor planning on the part of the PF.

Roads in Kabwe , and CB which were dug out still remain un finished and pot holes have turned into bore holes now.

PF is good for Paya farmer, poor finishers, and poor facilitators of an y projects they launch.

      PF kuya bebebele.

Vote HH the man with a clear vision

    • What I dont get is why UPND supporters insult each and every Jim,Tom and Harry on this site as long as He/She says something opposite to what they want to hear. Some of us are not even PF…and yet we are the same people you need to convince to vote for HH so that He can win, yet I do not see the ‘civillization’ of the UPND supporters.. any guy not supporting you , is dull.,kaponya, uncultured, thug name it.. its like a dictionery on its own.. I think HH needs to seriously look at the damage his supporters do to him.. its unprecedented.

    • Commissioning CONSTRUCTION is not CONSTRUCTING neither is it COMMISSIONING A CONSTRUCTED ROAD.
SO THERE IS ZERO EFFECT THERE.YOU WERE CONCENTRATING ON YOUR NORTHERN ZAMBIA WHERE YOU ARE NOW EVEN FUNDING BUILDING OF PALACES WHILE CUTTING A RIBBON FOR A ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN THE SOUTH THAT MIGHT NEVER TAKE OVER SUBJECT TO ELECTION RESULTS.

    • @Tek
      THE HEADLINE IS MISLEADING.

THE ROAD IS NOT YET CONSTRUCTED USING THAT MONEY.
THAT’S HOW YOUR RDA AT STATE HOUSE STEALS MONEY.

    • Monze – Nikko Junction road and Bottom Road combined are a small minute section of Southern Province roads if you don’t know. What I mean is, it is too little too late

  1. So what can upnd say about these projects,pf has done its work, dont be surprised if EL sweeps this election like no opponents exist.

    • @Zamcab, your moronic type of thinking should be criminalized. You need to spend time in jail for being so daft. Isn’t a government supposed to build roads? You seem to be the type that expects kids at home to thank you for bringing home a loaf of bread. What HH has spoken against is the Chimbwi no plan kind of development….20th Jan vote HH

  2. Political panic.Commissioning of the road in the rain season, since when?I can assure you that this road is not funded and will never see the light of day before 2016 general elections. PF has no prjects to show in Southern Province hence this hastly arranged thing. Anyway the vote this time around from all over the country goes to HH.

  3. Pf has worked they live to their promises, by the end of 2016 Zambia will be transformed completely.the deal is over in Lungu cabe.

    • It is good to rule black people because you can play with theiir half dead brains. Scot knows that his PF has been a mess & a political project that has failed. What commissioning are they referring to? This Scot & his late boss were being paid free salaries as they have been sleeping the last 12months. We need to change these political pants for the good of mother Zambia.

  4. WHY SHOULD 1KM OF ROAD COST K3.34MILLION ($528,000)???????????

THREE YEARS AGO THE COST WAS ALMOST K2MILLION/KM AND NOW THE COST OF FUEL IS REDUCED, AND OBVIOUSLY OTHER CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS WHICH ARE SOURCED OUTSIDE ZAMBIA (WHERE FUEL PRICES HAVE BEEN REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY)

    VIVA HH 2015

    • do you understand what is called a scope of work? or you just talking? do you even realize that three years ago roads built did not include a drainage system and shoulder reinforcements in the scope of work? do you even understand adjustments for inflation? its llike wondering why a loaf of bread was K3 in 1993? does that make Chiluba a better president than others?

    • @Haleisa Haleisa

      What do you think?????
Who doesn’t know the different levels of road construction.
Most of this money goes into P&Gs
I know the cost of drainage systems and the only reason previously there were no drainages is because some people did not know the importance of drainages alongside roads.

You cannot convince me on why the cost is so high.
There are a number of items that can be excluded from these contract documents and save the government huge sums of money.
I am sure the consultancy contract is equally as high with unjustified items.

SO PLEASE ARGUE WITH SOMEONE WITH LITTLE KNOWLEDGE

    • @self expression.. your own statement says a lot about you.. simple question. what is the cost of a drainage system? well you say you know..

    • @selfexpression,that is a very good question! For a long time we have never been told why road construction is so expensive in Zambia! unfortunately professional institutions like the Engineering Institution of Zambia,Association Quantity Surveyors and Zambia Institute of Certified Accounts (ZICA) etc have never taken up a responsibility to see if really we are getting the value for our money in all these construction projects!

  5. What about all those road construction projects (like the Kasisi/chaminuka) that were commissioned and have been abandoned because of nonpayment of contract dues – when are you going to finish them. Only gullible f00ls will fall for this.

  6. Thanks Guy Scott. Only that your workmates are fools. I think as UPND will do something to appreciate you just after gaining power this month.

  7. @selfexpression, DREAM on! Flight HH2015 is landing in magoye and not state house. EL2015 is landing in state house. Come 23rd January 2015, he will be shown in as republican president

    Come 2016, NAFUTI NAFUTI EL

Please remember this. You will insult on that day but we will not be there to hear your insults

    • ARE YOU ADMITTING THE SHIP HAS SUNK HENCE TRYING TO BOARD THE AIRLINE.

      TITANIC PF SUNK

FLIGHT HH 2015 IS JUST ABOUT LANDING IN PLOT 1

      VIVA UPND
      VIVA HH

  8. ha…………..ha…………..ha……………………..ha! Guy Scot which roads are commissioned in the rain season.Zambians can never be cheated, worse off southern province. Now becoz u have nothing to show any tangible development in the south ,ati commissioning roads!

  9. For once there is an issue based discusion here. .. hoping no one will go tribal… a nonsensical and unavoidable fact that shouldnt be institutionalised.

  10. Thanks for the long awaited event in Chief Choongo ‘s Chiefdom. Correction its called SAMU LYAMOOMBA not Shamulwa Mamba pliz this is Chitonga name.
We pray and hope that this called road will be completed in two years time with a new government.

  11. One of the many reasons why Zambia has failed to develop is because of negative, primitive and uninformed thinking of certain sections of our society.I would expect that people like Wanzelu and other bloggers would think before they yap,but they think in one dimension. As long as it is coming from the PF is it bad and must be condemned. There is no country anywhere in the world where development has been achieved without road infrastructure.Roads are very important and people must appreciate the effort that PF has put in to try and upgrade, rehabilitate and construct new roads in Zambia. If it were UPND doing it these bloggers would be screaming at the top of their voices praising HH. The best we can do is to encourage the government and support them in the infrastructure development.

  12. People of North-Western, Southern and Western Provinces are advised not to fall for such tricks. PF does not care about those three provinces. Since Lungu has promised to carry on with Sata’s legacy people in those three provinces are better of voting for HH on 20th January. At least HH will do something for those provinces not those tribalists and divisionists umodzi kumawa wako ni wako cartel and their cousins from the north.

  13. Am from Namz myself i think on thus road high time we have road thank you Guy Scott and enjoy ur hoilday after 20th January 2015 when HH takes of the president chabe
