Since 1 January 2015, the UPND’s mobile cinema tour has been travelling through the country promoting the HH film – “A New Journey for Zambia” – and it has received an overwhelming response from the public.

Run by a team of students from UNZA, the tour has been stopping at major towns as well as rural locations creating a wave of energy and excitement. The documentary provides a previously unseen insight into Hakainde Hichilema, his background, motivation and his priorities for action.

Edward Sichali, one of the tour organisers said: ‘We have been totally blown away by the support we have received across the tour. We were expecting crowds perhaps of a few hundred, but we’ve been drawing in thousands. It’s been a great carnival atmosphere. It’s clear to me that people up and down our country are crying out for change.”

Another student, Clio Chimbuuma, was overwhelmed by the positive response the tour has received involved, said: “Throughout Lusaka it was clear Hakainde was gaining huge momentum from early on within the campaign, but it is clear that this has now spread right across the country. I feel privileged to have been part of this and it clearly demonstrates HH put action into youth empowerment.”

Supported by provincial leaders and local people, the team have been using a projector and trucks mounted with PA systems to show the film on the sides of buildings, in community halls and football stadiums. The message they have been carrying is that Mr Hichilema is the candidate to move Zambia forward. He has the drive, energy and determination to deliver.

The party atmosphere seems to have certainly had an impact upon undecided voters.
Edith Dandule, a 32-year old woman from Kabwe, said: “To be honest, I didn’t know much about the two candidates before the campaign. But when the PF came to town it was intimidating and there was violence. But this cinema tour feels just like one big party. It’s something new, light-hearted and fun. Zambians need some fun again after three years of rising food prices, and falling living standards. I think HH will change that.”

Translating the content into local languages the tour has also undertaken impromptu rallies and market visits, with lots of music and dancing along the way.

This is grassroots cinema at its finest.

  1. “Me too”!!! …. with few days remaining, Lungu might want to copy this strategy.

    Great initiative by the students

    HH2015

  2. …Those days we used to call it “BASCOPO YA NOLIPILA.” Great innovation as a mode of campaign.

You know when the time is right, everything you touch falls in place while others say turns into gold.

There is no doubt – As Mwela Banda – that this week, HH will be addressed as : His Excellency The President of the Republic of Zambia…Mr Hakainde Hichilema. Cant wait. God is great. Zambia will be united

    God bless Zambia

    • My grandpa just said the same thing. He was pointing out that is how they got in to Westerns, watched documentaries and were introduced to jazz musicians with Nkhata breaking ground as the first guy to make the screens. My mother is recollecting how those became the meeting places for young teens on weekends and what a community of people from various tribes were brought together as they picked up dancing from other tribes by watching each other on screen. Great use of visuals and a fun day treat Mr HH.

    • bakamba tamwaishiba ati desperation can led to such movies.

have you watched it. watch mwana you will know ati ifintu ni lungu

  3. Mobile Cinema, a good idea. But I can put my last coin on the table, UPND did not seek any clearance from Communication authority to show documentaries across country. Every movie needs clearance from relevant authority, does it not?

HH is our Jesus, Our Savior. He is our Prophet Mohammed, Our Moses. He is here to resurrect us the mortals. Hail the Saviour HH.

    • Wishful thinking. Wait for 20th day will see that HH has improved from the last 17% vote to 25%. That will be great improved.

      VIVA PF VIVA EL

    • It depends. There are provisions within intellectual property law for educational broadcast which this could be classified under and if the footage is their own then its their own royalties at play anyway.

  4. PEOPLE’S BRAINS ARE HOLLYWOOD INCLINED. IF ONLY IT WAS A MOVIE EH! ONE PERSON SITTING DOWN IN HIS YARD AND TALKING MAY OR MAY NOT GENERATE THE EXPECTED RESULTS. AND IT IS MORE EFFECTIVE ON PEOPLE’S HEARTS & MINDS WHEN U SPEAK TO THEM IN PERSON THAN WITH THE USE OF ELECTRONIC GADGETS.

    • You’re kidding, right? The platforms may change but there’s a reason why film has transcended to the digital domain and is responsible for billions of hits online today. It is possible to sit and watch a completely different culture across the globe and be entertained or educated by it. People can be moved in to global action by one visual image these days. It remains the most powerful medium for a reason and can show more than a good or bad speaker can communicate.

    • Hey guys don’t bite. We just talking here eh! We gotta keep the conversation going.. After in the end we can only have ONE President at a time.

  5. Good initiative by students. Good and down to earth message. Instills hope and will. And where there is hope and will, there is a way. Well done.

  6. freemason will be shocked, ive not seen any rally that can be compared to most of the rallies that sata held to give him this fools courage. just some two rallies frm southern prov has given him courage that he is winning the election. go round the country first to wards not just provincial hqs.

  7. Great going UPND!

You’ve worked hard to the very last. Mr. Hichilema looked tired yesterday – he’s put in 110% and deserves what he’s worked so hard for. He still showed up AFTER campaigning that very day in Livingstone!

Edgar, that’s what you do. The choppers are there for a reason. You failed to use the tools at your disposal to get the job done, or rather you disrespected the electorate.

Baskopo is a brilliant idea, simple and innovative, UPND!

  8. i have always said it and am still saying hh leads others follows. as fo el its always me too , my documents were stolen .it was me who started it . viva hh via upnd and its team .
