A road in a Chingola
A road in a Chingola

Open letter to His Excellency Edgar Lungu

First and foremost I would like to say congratulations for being elected as the sixth president of our great nation Zambia.

Your Excellency, Iam writing this letter to invite you to Chingola to come and see for yourself what Chingola has become. I am sure you are aware that Chingola used to be one of the cleanest towns in Zambia in the past, but this is not so at the moment.

Mr President Sir, Chingola for the past 10 years has lagged behind in terms of infrastructure and road development despite being one of the richest town in Zambia.Mr President the main road in our town centre are in deplorable state, this is the main road which leads to Nchanga south hospital, Nchanga general hospital, clinic 1, and other mine clinics.

Pregnant mothers have delivered along the roads before reaching health centres this is due to potholes, patients have died along the way before reaching health centres because of the bad state of our roads. This is the same road leading to KCM headquarters.

Mr President Sir, the people of Chingola voted for you so that you can look at this issue with the urgency it deserves.Your quick response to our concern will be greatly appreciated.

    • The only time you will hear from the president is in 2016. The president was recently their campaign, why did address him on that issue. You voted for him, mark my words if those roads will ever be fixed.

    • Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Not sure why Nchanga voted PF. The road leading to Wilbur Simuusa’s office is dilapidated. Councillors even sit outside the office watching people struggle to cross the trench made by rains. But come 2016 I’m sure Nchanga will still vote Wilbur Simuusa as MP!!!! Anyway what needs to happen is the system needs to change.ZCCM used to maintain it’s towns despite it being the councils job.Councils currently have no idea how to run towns and the people running them are not educated. It’ s a low level job. This needs to change. Running a town is not a presidents job..we need new laws and councils need to take responsibility of running the services needed in communities.

    • So this the infrastructure PF was boasting about during the campaigns and continue to boast about?

Zambian have been brainwashed into thinking that its not government ‘s fault when it fails to deliver on its pledges.

This failed or abandoned road project is one of the many hundred projects launched by the late Sata prop up support for his party. I doubt it very much if they will be completed by 2016.

My advice to the people of Chingola is , vote HH in 2016 and see how he will deal such matters expeditiously .

Expect more jobs loses in the copper belt if PF does not handle matters with mines with honesty and integrity. Such matters can only be handled by people like HH who can investigate the mines ‘s income thoroughly and challenge them to pay a fair contribution the…

    • Chingola people thought transferring a crocodile from the Chambeshi river to Luagwa river can change its character as a crocodile. Not in a million years. A crocodile will remain a crocodile so as PF will remain useless as PF no matter who leads.

Dora told you, its not PF which won but Lungu.

PF is not known as Poor Finishers, or Paya Farmer for nothing. It has rightly earned its name due its recklessness.

Now PF government is completely broke and Chikwanda is scratching his head thinking about where to borrow money next.

    • I can bet my top dollar that this gentleman voted for PF. For the figures Edgar got from Chingola you would think Chingola is heaven on earth. Hate for other candidates was overflowing to the extent that they even forgot about their roads and solely focused on not voting for a Tonga (I’m Bemba by the way ) when they should have used the just ended polls to protest about issues like this. As they say ‘you can’t fix stnpid’ , come 2016 Chingola will vote EL enmass. My mother lives in Chikola so I know Chingola like the back of my palm.

  1. Dear Ba David Chama,

You are right, I was in chingola on 9th January, 2015. the town has changed drastically, The gabbages are growing like mountains, the stench in chingola is torturing. I grew up in Chingola from nursery to secondary, chingola sceondary school. The time I was growing up Chingola was a cleanest town in Zambia. The town was clean year in year out. What has happened. When I entered the town, i broke down. Indeed, something has to be done. Ba MP I hope he has also heard, please, please do something urgently.

    • Nothing will change unless government changes, chingola people, time to wake up. What makes you think this time they will hear your plea when people have been calling out their MP concerning these roads. So please stop making such pleas and learn to live with such roads unless you change GOvt

  2. Chiwangala stop making noise, don’t you have an area member of parliament there?what have they been up to since 2011? EL just came in office 3 days ago and you’re yelling at him already shame on you Zambians who always wait for the government to do everything for you!!!!!!

  3. ITS TRUE BOSS PRESIDENT DO SOMETHING AND GIVE BACK DIGNITY TO TOWNS LIKE CHINGOLA… I OFTEN WONDER WHY TOWNS WHICH GIVE MONEY TO ZAMBIA GET LESS ATTENTION!!!! WHY? THIS IS THE TIMES I MISS KK, HE USED TO MAKE SURE THE COPPERBELT WAS LOOKED AFTER, RECREATIONAL FACILITIES USED TO WORK NICELY, NOW PIPO CANT EVEN GO SWIMMING, DO SOMETHING …SAME WITH BOARDER TOWNS , THE BRING REVENUE TO THE COUNTRY BUT LOOK AT THEIR STATUS….

    • It was not KK who looked after the copperbelt it was ZCCM!! But that was a mistake because it made the councils redundant, now we are screwed! Mining trucks need to stop being allowed on roads.Bring back Prof Chirwa to finish his fantastic railway line vision. The line of rail should be used instead of roads.

  4. Thats true some areas need urgent attention. mkushi south is also another area which is totally finished his excellency. when you come bak call for an urgent meeting with mps to avoid trouble in 2016

  5. Mr. Chama very good point, i wonder what Mr. Simusa’ s defence would be for failing to deliver for the pople of chingola its very sad indeed, we cant have a road leading to two very important hospitals in a deplorable state its practically impossible, you will have to drive at less than 20 KMPH, to navigate the road. I do hope Mr. E.C.Lungu is aware of this.
But Mr. Chama the road in the Picture is not the one leading to the 2 Hospitals, the one to the hospitals is Kitwe road which is in extremely worse than the one in the picture, i wish i could send a picture of the road but am not able at the moment.

  6. AM GLAD TO SEE A NICE ROAD LIKE THAT.DEFINITELY CREDIT GOES TO HARD WORKING PF.THAT IS THE REASON WHY IN CHINGOLA WE VOTED EL/PF BECAUSE IN THE LAST 3 YRS THEY HAVE MAINTAINED ALL THE ROADS THROUGH TRANSPARENT TENDERS GIVEN TO THE CHINESE.
I CAN ASSURE YOU AFTER THE RAINY SEASON THE ROAD WILL STILL BE IN A GOOD SHAPE.

  7. Sorry guys,
Work hard, and send the money/profit to Vedanta in London.
Thanks for your support. We do not get such cooperation in India!
Zambians are great people. Why complain, we provide employment?

  8. First things first, I suggest that people of Chingola must stop littering, urinating and defecating anywhere. They must do their part first then engage the local authorities to solicit funds to improve roads and drainage. The local business people can also be involved to change the face of your once clean town. Also seek audience with your area member of parliament and assist him to come up with a workable solution. The president can make a directive authorising that money be apportioned to clean and patch holes on your roads but if you, the residents continue littering, urinating and defecating carelessly, the stench will only get worse

  9. How I wish we could be having by-elections for MPs. Chongwe MP is doing nothing other than yapping. People of Meanwood Ndeke village have no schools//churches/clinic/roads impassasble during rain season. Water unlenss one sinks a bore hole which is not advisable in such areas. Water/ZESCO connections were part of the plots prices. Where is Mr Zulu who was then CEO of Meanwood kanshi mwe bantu?

  10. I 100% agree with the writer of this article. It is a shame that despite having two cabinent ministers in the government. Chingola has lacked behind in terms of development, i wouldnt be shocked if these same MPs were left out of ministerial positions in the current government because there performance has been below par despite having served as MPs for two consective terms. I edge all Chingola residents to vote for vibrant and visionary leaders as MPs come 2016. This is the only way they can redeem themselves.

  11. Have you ever heard of witchcraft????

It is very real especially in Luapula/Northern and Muchinga. Coincidentally this is a stronghold of PF.

What am I talking about? People across the country know and have seen that PF has failed lamentably in all areas of the nation and yet they still vote for them.

How else can you explain that? witchcraft

  12. David Chama’s cry has for years been the cry of every town in urban and rural Zambia and is repeated over and over after an election. MP’s and councils don’t function any more.

  13. Hope the just elected president will help us in this regard as our MP as failed us on several occasions and it seems of all the MPs in the copperbelt region he is the only MP who has been so unfortunate to only deal with incompetent and bogus road contractors year in and out.

  14. Please the learned Nchanga MP, Hon Wilbur Simuusa; BMin; MSCMin; MBA and now PHD final student to sort out this Nchanga small issue and Dr. Katema for Chingola Constituency.

  15. …every district and any gazetted road, in particular the road in the above picture, has the following people responsible over it…you have a councillor, a mayor, district commissioner, MP, provincial minister and the president…their critical and supreme priority is their pockets and welfare of their families…what they can benefit from the post they are holding…lets say the council has secured K50, 000 and two proposals are tabled in council chambers…to either use that money to patch up pot holes on certain critical roads like the ones leading to the clinics/hospitals or to pay councillors allowances..if those proposals are put to a vote, your guess is as good as mine on the results of the vote.
..unless there is a change in mind set of the people responsible don’t expect good

  16. Galu watcher in Zambia alias Alibe Nzelu, you think in 3 years your father could have built roads in all cities and built other infrastructure in every town? Get a life you hater.

  17. THE PROBLEM IN CHINGOLA IS THAT WE VOTE FOR THE PARTY NOT PIPO BELIEVE ME YOU COME 2016 WILBUR SIMUUSA AND KATEMA WILL BE VOTED IN OFFICE AS LONG AS THEY STAND ON PF TICKET,THE RESULTS ARE HERE FOR EVERY ONE TO SEE SO LETS STOP COMPLAINING.

  18. I think Chingola people are tribalistic because one wonders why they voted for PF overwhelmingly.Or is it because they have gotten used to below par standards. There are no roads but trenches filled up with water. No development in Chingola for past 10yrs and nothing during the pat 3yrs.Shame these are the issues which make politicians not bother about development once in power because people do not mind at all.We should have given PF a scare for them to work.

  19. There does seem to be a problem with some MPs from the Copperbelt. It appears after election and appointment to ministerial positions they abandon their constituents. The result is the embarrassing situation where two MPs were booed at a recent campaign rally in Ndola. Chingola was known as the cleanest town in Zambia. Today it’s a shadow of it’s former self, while the current MP looks spick and span in Lusaka and is not one to be bothered about the dilapidated conditions abounding in his town.
