Wanderers’ “Adebayo” staying at Shinde

Share

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers top striker Brian “Adebayo” Ambungeni has confirmed that he is staying at the newly promoted FAZ Super League club.

Ambungeni scored 12 goals last season as Wanderers won promotion to the Super League after a nine-year absence.

The striker said he is staying at Shinde Stadium to help the legendary club remain in the Super League.

“I am not going any where. I want to help my team to remain in the Super League,” Ambungeni said.

“I know it will be tricky but we have to remain in the Super League,” he said.

Ambungeni hopes to replicate his Division One scoring prowess in the top flight league.

“I know this is a different challenge but I have to score goals and become top scorer,” he said.
Manfred Chabinga’s side launched their 2015 pre-season training last month at Mufulira Hockey Club.

    • Ati 12 goals! the whole season only 12 goals and you call that scoring prowess!! No wander Chipolopolo came back with only 2 goals. Yaba bola yapa Zed!

  2. Mighty iwina ichungulo, as the legendary Dennis Liwewe used to say. Job well done guys, welcome back to the Premier League.

  3. Maite awina icungulo is back, the true champions of Zambia. Wapya baisa! I remember Efford Chabala, George “Chicken” Luandamina, Emmanuel”Mukondeleshe”Munaile, Great Kalu, Charles”Charlie”Musonda, Joe Bwalya, Fred Mwila, Johnson”Commando”Bwalya, Shombo, Benjamin Bwalya, Ashos”Asholo” Melu, Enock Kalepa, Even our present team Doctor Kabungo is a mighty chap very good goal keeper, just to mention but a few!

    • You haven’t even kicked the ball in premier already you are boasting?
The ball game has changed. If you are going to rely on your past glory you are in for a rude shock tu mighty.

    • BBC

Don’t rewrite history in your unrestrained zeal. Fred Mwila was from Rhokana United (now Nkana) and not Wanderers.

  4. What is he going to call himself when he meets the REAL Adebayo? Only in Zambia! Ati Adebayo? I guess there are afew ‘ Yaya Toures’ and ‘Rooneys’ we have not yet heard of in Zambia.

    • it looks like you have an issue with someone idolising a fellow african. There are many players who have named themselves after white players but you’ve never complained. what’s wrong with one African showing pride in another African? ma inferiority complexes! self hate Steve biko would put it.

    • I agree with you. He! he! he! What is Edgar Lungu going to call himself when he meets Edgar Roosevelt -the REAL Edgar- the owner of his name? What is Edith Nawakwi going to do when she meets Edith Cavendish, the owner of her name? What is Gary Nkombo going to call himself when he meets Gary Coleman? I just hope you dont have a slave name before you castigate the “Zambian Adebayor”

    • Koma why do Africans want to have a European name with their true names? Arabs don’t give themselves such names. Chinese, Japanese, Russians don’t use these English names that Zambians are stuck with. Nabakulu bonse they still want to pose with English names. What kind of brainwashing is this?

  5. You must stop this nonsense of naming these young players by foreign names.
You limit their progress because they will always think they can not rise above their idol.
It happened when a player was named “Dr.khumalo’ .When Zambia went to play against Bafana Bafana, the poor fellow was sent in after a substitution. He couldn’t play because the real Khumalo was there.
I appeal to coaches to discourage this idiocy.

    • I totally disagree with you, Soccer Analyst. Abedi “Pele” Ayew was named after the Brazilian legend Pele. Today, he is considered a legend and one of Africa’s pride as far as the game of football is concerned. What limits are you talking about then?

    • I have never come across any European or South American player calling themselves by another player’s name. This seems to be a trend only among Africans and I totally agree that it is not good for positive character building and self belief. We can admire other people but there is no need to take on another person’s name.

    • Ba Soccer Analysts, I think you are dull. Have you ever gone in a fight and confess that you will loose the tussle? I was applauding ba maite and mention a few older players some of whom have died to boost confidence in the team maite. Yes I can boast about maite because they are current holders of winning as many cups as possible.

    • I still maintain that nicknaming our players with foreign names does not build a positive character building and self belief as @8.2 said.
If a player has certain qualities, give him a name to match that e.g good scorer, Brian “killer” Ambugeni,if he is a good goal keeper Brian “Spiderman” Ambogeni.

There is a saying that You are born an original don’t die a copy.
Let us be proud of who we were born people!
Don’t die like a certain black boy who was singer and died looking like a white lady.

  6. Welcome back Mighty! But if its true that you guys cant even afford Boom to wash your kit, then tuli muchibe sana sana! fyabushilufye ifi! elo ba makaka batemwa uku samwa bainylalwile fye ngabalefwaya!
