The prisons service department in Isoka district of Muchinga province has run out of bed space due to overcrowding forcing inmates to sleep in shifts every night.

Isoka District Commissioner Major. Joe Siwila says Isoka State prison is congested forcing inmates such as Remandees, and Prohibited Immigrants to sleep in shifts.

Major Siwila described the situation at the Prison as sad saying that in most instances the three cells at the prison meant for about 98 inmates were currently packed with 324 in mates. The District Commissioner was speaking in an interview in Isoka District, today.

He has attributed the congestion in the State prison to the influx of prohibited immigrants arrested by the Immigrations department at Nakonde border post recently.

He added that the congestion was also due arrests by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC ) and the Zambia Police Service (ZPS ) .

    • only those with hard labour sentences should be allocated bed spaces and do business of selling spaces for a short sleep and raise cash internally; the rest of the sentences do not attract any physical work hence they do nothing and can sleep anytime at a fee from the friends with bed spaces.

    • this issue has nothing to with politics. it has nothing to do with Lungu or HH. with this confusion we need a ceremonial president as head of state. the prime minister or vice president will have to run government and who must be subjected to elections like Iran. Iran has Ayyatollah as head of state. the president of iran runs government. all policy issues are directed by a Ayyatollah through an advisory board. every president voted into office follows the policies of the supreme leader. this ensures that there is no policy shift in the direction of the country. let us not rule this country by chance. since when did Hakainde or Lungu became responsible for prison congestion.! We condemned Harve Renard in this country but here were supporting him instead of supporting ivory coast.

    • Zambians please why is Henry Banda back in the country ? BA sata wanted to arrest him with RB . Now is with lungu and Congolese govern in the country . While guess you love poverty and foolishness and selfless leadership . Henry Banda was most wanted 3 months ago now having lunch and sleeping in the next room with your president ? Enjoy your president

    • Zambia has become too politically sensitive such that it will be very easy to change from one political party to another like America. But the later changes government on merit and principle. Zambia changes government based on hate, tribe and lack of knowledge on policy point of view. A candidate can win elections in Zambia just because he/she has been in opposition for a long time and would want to change just to try him on policies we don’t understand.

Nawakwi said, ‘ there is no democracy with poverty.’ this means that an empty stomach cant make an objective decision. he/she can vote for anyone as long as he give him/her a days meal.

I don’t support Nawakwi but collective wisdom can build this nation.

  1. people must repent and hate crime coz no matter how many prisons we build if people break the law at will congestion will be there still

  2. I miss Lucky Dube mwe! All they are building are prisons, prisons, prisons …They are PRISONERS!!

They don’t have mercy when they kill in cold blood, when they teal your property aggressively, when they rape etc

    Let them die

  3. IN WHICH PROVINCE IS ISOKA? FROM WHICH TRIBE ARE MOST OF THOSE INMATES? WHICH TRIBE IS WELL KNOWN FOR STEALING AND THIEVING IN ZAMBIA?

    • From were FTJ think God that bandit is Gone. Lungu does not what Bemba in the government anyone so the prison will be full since know jobs in government anymore

  4. Look, order some TENTS and put them in the Prison Yard. Chain them down if you think they might escape, but this is WRONG.

If tents are too expensive, build some GRASS HUTS, two per hut. I mean we CAN build Grass Huts, RIGHT?!!!!

    Get it sorted.
