Government says it has a five year ambitious programme aimed at connecting the entire country to radio transmission.

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo disclosed this when he featured on a special radio programme on
Hot fm via outside broadcasting mobile van at arcades during the commemoration of the World Radio day.

Mr Kasolo further revealed that ZNBC has so far erected 25 radio transmitters in selected parts of the country under phase one.

The Information Permanent Secretary noted that in phase two ZNBC intends to erect 20 radio transmitters in a bid to improve the quality of radio singles
in rural areas.

Mr Kasolo explained that government would use radio to broadcast President Lungu’s development vision for Zambia.

The Permanent Secretary said President Lungu is passionate about ensuring
that rural communities have access to radio transmission.

And Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General, Josephine Mapoma has implored radio stations to put in place radio programmes
that suit the needs of youths in the country.

Mrs Mapoma said radio has a social responsibility of giving information to the people of Zambia especially on issues affecting the youths.

    • What I want to see the issuing of national wide broadcasting licences to private radio stations along side ZNBC national coverage.

Politicians of African countries are always f00lish in their selfishness to prevent the opposition from spreading their message forgetting that, the same measures they put in place will come back and haunt them when the opposition party takes over. This explains why once ruling is dethroned, it dies and never to rule again in most African countries.

The reason why most ruling parties never bounce back to power once oust by the opposition is that, they selfishly do not put adequate safe guards for them selves just in case they get back into opposition. UNIP,MMD fell into the same trap, and now PF is quickly putting measures to fall in the same trap.

It will only be good if and only if private broadcasters can also be allowed national coverage licenses.

Besides I want to see more private TV stations joining the air waves so that people tired of cheap PF or any other ruling party useless propaganda can listen to what the opposition is saying in order to have an informed and balanced view of what is happening.

This is what I believe enhanced freedom of speech entails.
