Police in Lusaka have arrested expelled MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu for conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Mr. Lungu who handed himself in has since been detained at Woodlands Police Station until he meets the bond conditions set out by the police.

Mr. Lungu who arrived at Woodlands Police post around 09:30 Hours was interrogated for about two hours before was formally arrested.

This is in connection with the convening of an illegal NEC meeting on Saturday which was held at his residence in Woodlands against police orders not to go ahead.

Police in Saturday launched a manhunt for Mr. Lungu who had gone into hiding until this morning when he reported himself to the police.

Mr Lungu was accompanied to Woodlands Police Station by Lucky Mulusa, Chembe Nyangu, Faustina Sinyangwe and former Lusaka Province Youth Chairperson Watson Mtonga among others.

But Mr Nyangu who was shaken by the arrest of his colleague accused the police of working with MMD President Dr. Nevers Mumba to intimidate other party members opposed to his leadership.

Mr. Nyangu said it is clear that the police have taken sides in the MMD leadership battle which he said is unfortunate and uncalled for.

He also appealed to President Lungu to intervene and order that the police remain neutral in the discharge of their duties.

    • At least you have managed to avoid spending a night in police cells by hiding and then hand yourself in on a Monday when you know police bond requirements will be satisfied quickly.
Police should have let you go today and arrest you next Saturday.

    • This just confirms what I said before that Lungu is sly. He will keep RB and his MMD faction on a leash and instruct the courts to drag their cases up until 2016, so that RB and his MMD faction can again go and look for Lungu and PF ‘s campaign money and help Lungu and PF deliver Eastern province to PF again.

This Nyangu cried foul, after seeing Muhabi lungu arrested. RB and his MMD faction are in for a shock until they categorically quit MMD and join PF officially. Otherwise, Lungu and PF will continue to black mail them.

Well they bought into Lungu and PF ‘s black mail deberately, so let them enjoy it.

These are the fruits of treachery in wko ni wako style.

Ka Lungu ka za batinika to submission until they say, yes bwana, Lungu , we quit MMD and are joining PF from now on .

    • The only reason why I think Muhabi was prevented by the police from holding that meeting, is because most RB MMD faction members were left out of Lungu ‘s appointments and so they wanted to discuss how to black mail PF into giving them some to jobs as promised.

So when Lungu and Chama got the wind of it, they instructed the police to stop Muhabi from goining ahead with the meeting using the pretext that they were holding a meeting under MMD ‘s banner illegally.

The fact is if they were holding that meeting to quit MMD and join PF officially, Muhabi ‘s meeting would have gone ahead without a hitch because Chama and Lungu, would have been happy that his party has now cemented PF ‘s victory in Eastern province.

For Lungu is looking for ways to weaken RBs’ faction further to…

    • @Nostrademus

I don’t think RB wants to get involved right now because he is equally in hot soup until his case is completely disposed off.

RB supported Lungu for his personal gain not for any of those people around him. For now I think its each one for himself and God for us all in as far as RBs MMD faction is concerned.

Them boys will have face their own demons on their own while RB is struggling to face his against the Mmembe cartel. How interesting indeed!

His own son William is on record saying, his father hatched a plan to support Lungu for his own selfish reasons to free himself and enjoy his immunity now that his presidential ambitions were thwarted by the PF machinery.

    • EdgarLungu is a MOST slack guy, he doesnt instil hope at all MUHABI HAS BECOME a TOOL to destroy MMD so as to favour PF. PF is destined to break and I am seeing ‘mini clusters’ emerging i.e those frm North-western-(Inonge’s,Lubinda’s), Northern-(The Kambwilis) and Easterners-(Mahibi’s, Vincent’s). PF will be stretched like a ballon and will burst before 2016 Elections.

MORE OVER Muhabi Lungu and NEVERS MUMBA are “envisaging” VICE PRESIDENCE in PF even if they r staging their Fight. WATCH AS THE GAME OF POLITICS reaches an advanced STAGE.

I believ Kambwili is even ‘enving GBM’ for his decision to support UPND. Edgar is NOT A LEADER the reason he has been failing in ALL his Leadership Roles HE IS TOO DOCILE NOT HUMBLE as@Lord puts it..

    • IF HE WASN’T ON THE RB SIDE. U WOULD HAVE SAID “IT EL & RB BEHIND IT”. NOW WHO IS BEHIND THIS BA WANZELU, ANY ANSWERS?

    • @1.5 Wanzelu
I am ‘slightly’ differing with you. Muhabi’s meeting was HIGHLY sanctioned by Edgar(BUT NOT THE WHOLE PF) and his aim is to STOP MUMBA from being popular in the NORTHERN VOTING BLOCK, Edgar is safe as long as MMD in the hands of someone else. Edgar is “strategising” on how to GRAB Western/North-Western block which is in the hands of UPND and Keep the NORTHEN and Eastern to his side.
MMD maybe a ‘Spoiler’ party against PF in 2016 if not “axed” now.

We are still in a mist as Edgar is still gripping to the reigns of POWER and HE IS NOT YET FULLY IN-CHARGE & his FOLLOWERS are still DOUBTING HIM and who knows HE NEVER BE IN-CHARGE.

    • POSSESSED, OBSESSED “WANZELU”..EVERY NEWS HAS TO BE CORNERED TO FUT A BLAME ON THE PRESIDENT. MAN WHY DO YOU ALWAYS CHANGE HEADLINES LIKE THE ZWD? YOU ARE SICK!!!

    • @Nostradamus. Thanks my bro. I was supposed go to muhabi’s house and drink with his suspended bubes, i called my bro @Nostradamus. He advised me against going there becoz these people are fighting too much, he told to let them fight then we visit them ku police na ku chipatala.

  1. A Lungu!!!! a Lungu!!! Vikanga vakanga Mkwasu Nkazikikani tyala. Kuyambira ku UNZA nalero mukaliye kunkalako Nangu a Councillor like Mulenga Sata. As usual just making noise. Go back to the drawing my brother and start afresh. or you can try RED CROSS SOCIETY OF ZAMBIA.

    • The last time Charity Katanga was in Lusaka Province, she made the mistake of embarrasing Sata’s government by unwarranted violence against UPND supporters who were demonstrating peacefully as was their right in a democracy.
Now Charity Katanga has arrested Muhabi Lungu for hosting a meeting at his home chaired by Kabinga Pande. Is hosting a meeting, now an offence in Zambia? Last Sunday I attended my Church Chitente meeting. The host of our Chitente meeting has not been arrested. So why has Charity Katanga arrested Muhabi? Were they discussing treason?
I would say to Ms Katanga please tone down. Do not get mixed up in political matters. Police should only do so if they is violence. It is not the job of police to protect Nevers Mumba, if MMD members want to get rid of him peacefully.

    • As for the rest of us posting comments, it is necessary to bear in mind that even if we have political differences with others (which is normal unless we are in North Korea) it is our duty to defend their democratic rights.

It is quite clear that this case will go no where as no normal court can convict Muhabi for going against police dictates. The powers of the police in a democracy are not absolute. The rule of law is, and the police are as subject to it as anybody else.

  2. In the world today you are thrown in prison tomorrow you are freed.
In hell once you are taken in,its forever.

My fathers, mothers, uncles, aunties, brothers and sisters let us humble ourselves unto God and ask Him to deliver us from all evil.
May the love of Christ dwell in our hearts richly.

  3. Citizens need to obey the law – even a bad one. Law is Law but the courts will always free those who are wrongly detained.

    • @amagege

You are wrong on this one. I totally disagree with you. We are not in a totalitarian state.

Bad laws are supposed to disobeyed and broken. Under normal circumstances Muhabi should have been a free man. Now for the reasons I explained earlier, Lungu and Chama decided to arrest him.

Why did Lungu and Chama not arrest them when held an illegal meeting to decide to back Lungu in the elections because the same reasons for Muhabi ‘s arrest could also have been applied that time.

      Think before you comment please.

    • There is no law that gives powers to police to authorize an indoor meeting. The 7 days requirement where police are informed of a meeting to take place is exactly what it says.In this matter, police have not told us that they suggested an alternative date or venue for the meeting. They have no right to completely cancel a political meeting. As it turned out, there was no violence or any form of intimidation at Muhabi Lungu’s house where this meeting took place. The State will end up paying Muhabi Lungu for false imprisonment.

  4. MUHABI SHOULD LISTEN TO HIS WIFE. EVEN HIS WIFE HAS NEVER SUPPORTED WHAT HE DID TO NEVERS.

HE IS JUST PUSHING. THIS CHEEKY BEHAVIOUR TO GET SOME CHEAP POPULAIRTY AND TRY TO IMPRESS ALABI THAT HE REALLY TRIED TO GET RID OF NEVERS AS PER INSTRUCTION.

PEOPLE LIKE MUTATI KNOW THAT NECERS IS UNSTOPPABLE.

  5. James M L is behaving like a Hyena trying to snatch from others the dry skin of a dead carcass. Like UNIP, the MMD’s destiny is some dry and dusty shelf of the archives.

  6. Don’t know whether to laugh or cry!

Live by the sword…and you’ll die by the same. Muhabi has been an MMD detractor, pulling fast ones against Nevers. He is now eating saw dust after failing his gambit. RB is continuing with his noterity having lached on to PF.

All evil ends in destruction. Hope Muhabi does not go lower than this. He was destroyed by his own actions.

  7. soon we will see Rupiah Banda being arrested as well. How can a person of his stature as former president of Zambia go from accusing the PF of this and that and two weeks later, when the Supreme Court told him to respect the law and allow Dr. Mumba to continue his duties as President of MMD, he changes over to the PF? Not only did he reveal to the world that he lacks principles but he is a Judas Iscariot, ready to betray his party and leader Dr. Mumba for thirty pieces of silver. Lungu is not a fool. You watch. He will corner RB. What RB did will haunt him for the rest of his life…..by the way, did his wife really have cancer or did RB make up that story?

  8. Mambala Muhabi should also be charged for hiding from the police to prevent his arrest. Where was he all this time when he knew very well the cops were looking for him. This chap has no respect and is just a vulture who should be stopped from practicing such dirty politics. Let Mumba lead the party and just remove him decently like he was elected.

  9. This is so confusing for my understanding, who is pulling the strings? I wont be wrong I guess to suggest that probably Edgar is playing RB. Am sure Edgar knows too well that giving prominence to Muhabi is as good as strengthening RB. Edgar is safe by keeping Nervers Mumba as MMD president because he is a weak leader who can easily be beaten hand down. Edgar knows that once Mumba is ousted, RB can lead MMD and that will be a game changer for Edgar. Edgar still needs RB next year to bounce back to power. Therefore he will keep RB outside MMD so that gets him more choppers, money and votes for his 2016 re-election. What is happening in MMD has an invisible hand of Edgar. Since when did police take particular interest in the internal affairs of an opposition which is actually even too weak?
