Street vendors on the Copperbelt have commended Vice President Inonge Wina for recognizing street vending in the country.

Ms Inonge Wina said recently that street vendors should not be removed because they greatly contribute to the economic development of the country.

One of the street vendors Mulenga Chishala told ZANISin an interview in Ndola today that he is happy with the step the Vice President has taken in empowering street vendors in the country.

Charity Katongo who is also a street vendor said acknowledging street vendors will reduce the crime rate in the country.

‘’If we are kicked out of the streets some people might end up indulging in dangerous vices like prostitution and robbery just to put food on their table,’’ she said.

Some street vendors thanked the Government for looking into their plight adding that the goods they sale on the streets help them feed their families and to educate their children.

And Ndola City Council Public Relations Officer Gideon Thole said the council has a programme which educates street vendors on the dangers of selling in the streets.

Mr Thole said his council was also determined to encourage venders on the importance of keeping their the trading environments clean to avoid a break out of epidemics.

The street vendors have since appealed to the Government to continue with the good work in order to maintain peace and harmony in the country.

And The Patriotic Front (PF) youths in Mwinilunga district of North-western province have joined in thanking Republican President Edger Lungu for appointing Inonge Wina as the country’s first female Vice president.

PF Mwinilunga Constituency Youth Secretary Sylvester Kachong’u said the youths in the district warmly welcomes the appointment of the first female Vice president and expressed confident that Ms Wina will deliver meaningful development to the expectation of the party and the nation as a whole.

Mr Kachong’u said this in a message of solidarity to President Lungu as the sixth Republican president made available to ZANIS in Mwinilunga district today.

He has also commended President Lungu for recognizing people from North-western province by appointing some notable people in his cabinet.

Mr Kachong’u has since assured both President Lungu and Ms Wina of the party’s total support in the district as they continue to serve the nation.

President Lungu recently appointed a number of women in various government and cabinet positions a gesture that has pleased sections of society.

    • The contribution they make is dirtying the towns and cities . They do not pay tax . Why not come up with a way of collecting tax from venders , this can help our economy grow.

  1. @mike
Thats development coz people are able to sell in the streets with no toilets and when need arises, defecate into empty shake shake packets and throw them around. Dont forget its a country where over 60% of the population lives on less than a dollar per day. So,yes, its development!

  2. And you wonder why we never move with such retrogressive mindsets as veeps…no wonder ZRA never collects tax with such empty tins encouraging the black market…she is putting votes before people who actually pay her salary.

    • Copperbelt lawlessness encouraged to win votes in 2016. Zambia has become a large dirty shanty except Livingstone where vendors were recently chased.

  3. @Jay Jay even your tribal HH promised to maintain street vendors on the streets if he won so why criticise Inonge Wina here?we know your tricks.PF will listen and do all what majority voters want so that in 2016,the opposition will have almost nothing to criticise PF about!!!the Mighty PF is now very stable so with the use of nega nega formula in its favour, your tribal HH will have a nightmare in 2016!!!PLUS ON 14TH APRIL,2015 WE’LL COLOPA YOU IN CHAWAMA AND MASAITI!!!WE’LL SEE IF PF INDEED RIGGED 2015 ELECTION IF UPND WILL CARRY THESE 2 SEATS!!!!but the fact is PF will scoop these 2 seats!!!

    • I find it very difficult to have a debate with a cadre because he/she doesn’t relies that there are people out there who do not support any party but want to see our country advance….the cadre party training manual has not told them how to respond to none cadres; so his response is to pigeon hole them as the opposition and reduce debate their level of silly political retoheric!!

    • @jay jay, this Eddy is juvenile and lacks intellect. He is clearly an ***** and its people like Eddy who for many years have been screaming about their political parties superiority and now that people can challenge that claim they devolve to name calling. Eddy needs to stick to soccer and limit his political conversations at the tarven or Soweto market.

    • Of course citizens as stakeholders of the Zambian firm can express political opinions without belonging to any political party. It is not political parties that teach us what to say or write. It is what we see or personally experience that make us give an opinion. So please stop compartmentalizing us in your political parties. I personally do not need party membership to know the cause of some of the challenges Zambia faces. I also vote every time there is an election because it is my right and duty to elect leaders to run affairs of this country. I vote with a full conscience of my decision.

  4. Meanwhile bo Wina is drinking milo and eating biscuits at cabinet office. Is this the employment that the PF was promising? I don’t know where this country is headed. Are going to be a country of bootleg traders? Thats the official government position? I would expect thegovernment to come up with a position that states that they are working on providing better opportunity and trading environment for these people wrather than have them clash with formal commerce on the street. Imagine being a store owner and someone is selling the exact goods you have outside your door? Make matters worse they don’t have to contend with ZRA or pay license fees or rent and rates lkke you. We are suffocating genuine commerce to please cadres. We told you so. Chili pali LUNGU.

    • How is building markets going to help when the street vendors have option of selling anywhere for free than paying a fee in the market!!

  5. Looking at how wrinkled her face is? This surely entails how shallow minded Zambians are in allowing such a person to be veep who cant add any value to national development.she really deserves to retire. I tell the top three is a bunch of out dated leaders(edgar, inonge, chikwanda.

  6. A very unproductive gesture from the veep. How does GRZ supposed/expected to combat diseases with so much filth left behind by street vendors bo Wina? A person in that position should be of high calibre and above cheap politicking.

    • What more assurance do you need to know that Zambia is a banana republic and rulers are suffering from banana sydrome. What a pity!

  7. We will show PF that we are their bosses in 2016 for the following reasons:

    1. The kwacha is weakened with the involvement of RB in political affairs 1$=k7.200
    2. Guy scot who is the pillar and founder of PF is sidelined
3.People are getting fired by incompetent ministers like Chitundu from ZESCO
4.Genuine members of the party are not recognized and respected by ECL-Rupiah camp

We voted for PF hoping H.E Edgar C Lungu was goin to govern the country on Mr Sata Legacy and vision(M.H.S.R.I.P).

  8. Countrymen decision based on cadreism will not take our nation anywhere. Legalisation of street vending is courting trouble for sure. Controlled vending yes, mwati niiyi ya pa zed. Cry beloved country!

  9. these vultures like Inoge don’t care about how the streets look because they always drive & go to manda hill or crossroads. if these vultures think street vending is ok, why don’t they allow it in front of statehouse & at parliament house?

  10. these vultures like Inoge don’t care about how the streets look because they always drive & go to manda hill or crossroads. if these vultures think street vending is ok, why don’t they allow it in front of statehouse & at parliament house?

  11. Rather than addressing the real issue of a high unemployment rate, the pf is now encouraging street vending? Surely Zambians, we can do better than this. These are people who are not smart and creative enough to address the high unemployment rate and hence they have resorted to praising street vendors–Zambia deserves a better crop of leaders!

  12. There is no need to appease street vendors. Before backing them, it is helpful to consult widely and come up with a national policy framework. What is needed is skills training (mechanico, plumbing, carpentry, electrico, boiler making, painting, etc.) In addition, there is need to strengthen the services, including police training, military training, prison service training, etc). Apart from that business kills and enterpreuneurial skills are needed (book keeping, accounts, marketing, basic economics, commerce, company law, etc). How have other countries moved their youth from the streets? A bit of force is required and a bit of incentives is also required.

  13. And how do you expect the country to develop on such a careless statement when there is no tax policy to tax vendors.
    Zambia on Auto pilot. …

  14. Street vending is chaos, not development. How I hate dirty!!!

What about the markets we have built? So when you sell in the market and pay fees, they laugh at you. After all buyers are trapped outside the market. How do we reward lawlessness like this?? Once upon a time, Zambian cities and towns were nicely clean….once upon a time!!!!!!!
