GOVERNMENT has dismissed allegations by African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) Zambia chapter chairperson Cornelius Mweetwa that it is behind the legal proceedings against Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito.

Chief government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili said in a statement issued yesterday that Mr Mweetwa should realise that he is heading an important institution founded on morality and integrity which he should not soil with his alleged political and partisan agendas.

Mr Kambwili, who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said Mr Mweetwa’s accusations against Government over the DPP are not only politically-motivated but also baseless, unwarranted and uncalled for.

Mr Mweetwa’s allegations were reported in the media yesterday. He is United Party for National Development (UPND) Choma Central member of Parliament.

“The law is there to take its own course on any suspicion of wrongdoing.

Government, therefore, expects Honourable Mweetwa to act with the highest level of responsibility, integrity and objectivity in his perspective of national issues,” he said.

Mr Kambwili said Government is built on the principle of the rule of law, respect for human rights and democratic governance.

He said Government has no agenda to pursue its citizens using underhand methods.

Mr Kambwili also described as laughable accusations by UPND member Mulondwe Muzungu that the Patriotic Front (PF) is propelled by deep-rooted hatred, corruption and intimidation.

He said it is clear that having nothing else to offer in his political career, Mr Muzungu’s remarks are nothing more than cheap political publicity.

Mr Kambwili also said Government finds former Minister of Justice and PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba’s recent remarks on the issue of the DPP as an act of gross irresponsibility to alarm the international community on a purely personal private matter.

“Mr Kabimba is being hypocritical to malign a justice system he presided over as justice minister a few months ago,” he said.

  1. The last sentence is quite redundant. The PR department at the ministry needs some realignment. I just hope Kambwili wrote his own press statement.

    • Anybody with just a little intelligence knows the case against DPP Mutembo Nhito is politically motivated. However, intellingence and PF are like water and oil, they don’t mix

    • Mr Mweetwa is very much collect ,additionally Ng’uni and Rupiah are the most useless Politicians, who are destroying our institutions which are anchored on democracy. The Law maybe murky in some ways BUT RB is really becoming a nuisance to our Political spectrum. I can not condemn Kachasu man because he is just a ‘PAWN’ on the chess board being used by Rupiah and its very dicey for him, he doesnt know where to turn right or left.

    • @Obatala and Anderson – Are you two nincompoops suggesting that what Mutembo has been doing is right? If so, God help us!

    • @1.4 Robby how can UPND be mute when the train is heading in a WRONG direction? You want them to fall into a ditch with the pop-eyed and start crying for ER team? UPND’s stance is correct and they should NEVER EVER STAND aloof when Lungu is becoming too mendacious and silly. Lungu and ALL PF MPs, the likes of Kambwili et al seconded the motion in Parley and ushered in Nchito as DPP even though he had issues to be cleared before the courts, today they are fighting him because of RB, people lets be serious RB-ECL marriage is going nowhere & Mr Kambwili should HAVE COMMON SENSE why making unnecessary NOISE ALL the time.

  2. When people are bruised they resort to emotions and unprofessional conduct. Honestly how does one run to international community without putting much thought to such action . Obviously the international community should be laughing at some of these communications. People should remember that even these international communities they have own problems some of which are similar to ours. How on earth do we sink so low as to undress ourselves on trivialities. Just yesterday when it suited us we looked at the kettle as white and now that we are out we see it as black. Shame indeed. Jealous is poison.

    • The international community ARE laughing their heads off!

Sata and his PF have made us the joke of the century!

      From the US NPR –

“Mutembo Nchito, the director of public prosecution in Zambia, was arrested last week on nine charges that include abusing his authority, contempt of court and fraudulent contracting of debt between 2008 and 2013. He went to court in Lusaka yesterday and told the magistrate, I am the director of public prosecution of the Republic of Zambia and I’ve decided to enter a nolle prosequi against all the charges – which is the Latin legal term for declining to pursue a case. The high court then canceled the warrant for his arrest…………..

    • ………..Another magistrate will rule on March 2 whether prosecutor Nchito must prosecute the case against prosecutor Nchito, who is also prosecuting some other high-profile government corruption cases. If they ever do a “Law And Order: Zambia,” sounds like they will only need one actor.”

  3. Both camps (‘cartel’ and govt) are out to get each other. Ba Kambwili will do well to stop defending all govt actions and get to work because Mutembo is not sleeping. He is eagerly waiting for the next court date.

    • You’re absolutely right. The government should stop defending it’s wrong actions and concentrate on the truth and developing the economy of Zambia. Mr. Mutembo’s accusers are driven by greedy politicians who are in hurry to get Ncinto removed as DDP. If Nchito abused his authority, these people are suppose to follow the right way of removing him as a DDP. If Ba Kambwili is not telling the truth, the truth will expose him as a big liar and so will be his downfall. It is only the truth that can set free the government and individuals.

    • @ Beautiful Moma

More likely that there are two factions within “cartel” fighting each other at the expense of Zambian People.

  4. This is where I see upnd as political amateurs at times ,upnd must not take sides on this issue because it is most likely to work to their advantage.this Nchito thing can destroy Edgar in a short time bcoz of RB element.in chewa we say tsoka lamunzako ndiye mwai wako.this Nchito and cartel need no sympathy at all.they really worked hard to destroy upnd together with that zayellow behind kambwili on photo.if Edgar spends all 12 months chasing the nchito group he will fail to deliver giving upnd advantage.they must learn to read the wind before commenting.no normal person can side with nchitos,I remember George kunda warning us against this Nchito thing.

  5. AND THE GREATEST MISTAKE THAT IS BEING MADE IS TO LABEL EVERYONE AS CARTEL AND RESORT TO SAYING ANYTHING THAT HAS THE SEMBLANCE OF CARTEL SHOULD NOT RECEIVE SYMPATHY. WITH THIS APPROACH PEOPLE ARE IN A HURRY TO “FIX” THE CARTEL. UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE TOO MUCH IN A HURRY THAT THEY ARE BY-PASSING THE LAW. THE CLEAR GUIDELINES ON HOW TO PROSECUTE THE DPP ARE BEING THROWN AWAY. AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO TO COURT WITHOUT FOLLOWING PROCEDURE. EVEN THE GROUNDS THAT YOU THOUGHT WERE SOLID WILL END UP BEING DISMISSED BECAUSE YOU TOO ARE A LAW BREAKER. YOU MAY WASTE TIME POINTING AT A SPECK OF DUST IN YOUR BROTHER’S EYE WHEN YOU TOO HAVE A VERY BIG LOG IN YOUR OWN EYE.

  6. UPND members like mweetwa and muzungu are confused when nchito was taken to parliament they said us upnd we have issues with nchito Now I wonder what has changed. Are these politicians you can trust? Nchito is not above the law.

  7. Chimbwili must know that it is ‘rule of law’ to set a tribunal to investigate the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) before he is disciplined or whatever. Chimbwili ‘s language again ‘unwarranted , baseless and uncalled for’. The perspective Mweetwa has as an individual or head of the institution is held by many Zambians. It is actually Chimbwili who is politicizing this issue. DPP ‘s office is a constitutional office with security of tenure. Who should protect it? The one who swore to uphold the constitution. That is the way Zambians who respect the supreme law of the land see it. Again Chimbwili your language is unpalatable. There you are Chimbwili the DPP has legal entered a nolle , prosecute him. What is there is ‘first things first’.

  8. …@Ganja Farmer, you read my mind. I agree with you entirely. As infact, UPND should just stand akimbo or go to the wire fence and watch events unfold.

The cartel (via Nchito) or RB (via Govt) one is more likely to be bruised, only then can they now join the band wagon and start issuing various statements

    Anyway, VIVA HH!!!

  9. @ ganja farmer
What kind of weed are you smoking? Everyone knows you don’t arrest the DPP without the consent of the president. You guys should give us a break . The president has the power to remove the DPP only that he should follow the right legal process – tribunal.
Kambwili should use professionals in his ministry to write the rebuff for him. He is sounding like Chella

    • Yes,but after a tribunal.Normally,N’guni was suppose to take his complaint to the President. The president is suppose to set up a tribunal to investgate the allegations.Tribunal in turn recommends to the President whether the allegations are truths or not,and whether the DPP should be fired or not. When the allegations found to be crimal in nature, the Tribunal can recommend for the prosecution of “former DPP”.The DPP has the same protection as court Judges and Justices.Imaging arresting a Judge because a citizen has complained against him.So the question begging serious answers is why the president has allowed such a thing to happen?

    • @14.1 Kalu

You are quite wrong on assuming Judges or DPP cannot be arrested and tried, or even sent to jail!

In the UK CURRENTLY A judge, Briscoe was found to have tampered with a famous case of an MP and his wife. Judge was friend of the wife and they cooked up a stitch up to get him sent to jail.

When it was found out, the judge was tried, sent to jail and she was severely punished financially to compensate for the damage to the husband. Both wife and husband went to jail for their deceit.

In a civilised country, no one is above the law even the top man. Let the Judges decide. In my opinion it is a matter of our legal system’s integrity.

  10. It’s amazing that any Zambian would find anything in DPP Nchito to defend.

The man is highly unprincipled. If the gov’t wanted to hound him surely all they’d do is send the bailiffs in on behalf of DBZ? I mean even I could harass him in a less obvious way, what more the gov’t?

Come on people! UPND, and now Rainbow Party are Idle as a result of not being in gov’t. The saying goes, ‘An idle mind, is the devils workshop.’

These guys are cooking up fantastic improbable scenarios in the hope citizens will fall for that smoke screen. What amounts to desperate vote begging!

  11. Kambwili is applying lip stick to a pig. He knows that Lungu and RB have ganged up to unseat the DPP in order to prevent him from prosecuting Rb. It is a known fact. Kambwili is lying through his teeth. You can tell a lie many times but that wont change the fact.
