President Edgar Lungu has nominated Christopher Mvunga as Member of Parliament and subsequently appointed him as Ministry of Finance Deputy Minister.

President Lungu has since sworn-in Mr Mvunga at a ceremony held at State House this morning.Mr Mvunga until his appointment worked for Standard Chartered bank as Regional Head for Africa Management.

The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Inonge Wina, Finance Minister Alexanda Chikwanda, Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga, State House Deputy Minister Mulenga Sata and Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda.

Also in attendance was Lusaka Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta, Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Stephen Kampyongo, Secretary to the Treasury Fred Yamba and other senior government officials.

And speaking after being sworn in, Mr Mvunga pledged to work hard to address Zambia’s economic challenges. “The Zambian economy has been growing, I will ensure that it continues to grow,” he said.

Mr Mvunga said concerted efforts are needed to do the right things in ensuring that the country manages the challenges facing the economy in efforts to improve the welfare of Zambians.

Early last month, President Lungu swore in all deputy ministers except for the deputy Minister at the Ministry of Finance.

  1. It appears like its only swearing in ceremonies duties which are more prominent and no talk on how to revamp the economy Where are we heading to?

    • Mvunga,… In Zambia once one name makes in newspapers like “Mvunga” commission, then anyone with such a name will be ministers.
      Think of the Musokotwanes
      The Sata’s
      Except Chiluba.

    • Now i can tell Lungu is picking people he drinks with ,this guy drinks like fish in South Africa ask any Zambian in South Africa they will tell you, is this the type of ministers we are ending up with now i am seriously worried but you never now people can change Lungu himself is a good example.

    • Lungu is just fulfilling his pledge to follow Sata ‘s legacy . Sata ‘s legacy was just swearing in officials , firing them, insulting his ministers and issuing stupid intimidatory statements against the opposition.

Sata had zero plans on how to improve the economy.

    • If the locomotive engine is rotten, it wont perform any better by replacing new wagons.

Lungu the Locomotive engine needs replacing for Zambia’s economy to steam ahead with certainty.

    • DOOM IS AWAITING ZAMBIA UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF THE VISION-LESS EDGAR CHAKOLWA CHAGWA KALE LUNGU. WHAT ELSE DO YOU EXPECT FROM SOMEONE WHO STOLE POWER FROM THE RIGHTFUL OWNER?

    • Getting paid for conducting ceremonies, what an easy job, after having taking a holiday to select the appoints.

  2. This is were mr. Lungu should be directing all his efforts “addressing Zambia’s economic challenges” instead of fighting police to arrest opposition leaders. The kwacha has never gained substantial value against the dollar ever since chikwanda became finance minister. I hope this guy can over rule some of chikwanda’s which do not work, especially those of waiting for the U.S. economy to go down for the kwacha to gain value against the dollar.

  3. Christopher Mvunga is the son to Patrick Mvunga. Chris Mvunga worked with HH during the privatisation process. Chris used to look on the accounting aspect. HH remember what Chris told you, “Visiye vima politics vi zatiletelela”. Now Chris is in ECL camp.

    • Chris is a nominated member of parliament and therefore he is automatically a politician. If indeed he was close to HH, he shouldn’t be in ECL ‘s camp. His father was a politician involved in all high profile political cases, so who are you to tell us fimo fimo. Uyu Chris ni mwana wa ku mawa! Nepotism !

    • Chris is a brother to Patrick Mvunga, he worked for Dave Corp as a consultant years back. Before going on to RSA and joining the bank. He failed at campus but went on to study accounts and holds a qualification in ACCA. He has a good mind provided he is not drinking, married with children.

  4. Leave him alone with his drinking. Remember Chikwanda said “kalakolwa nomba kalikwata amano!” I suppose this could be a new dispensation. Drinkers of the world – hic – un-hic-ite…

  5. Please Zambians learn to be objective. Read this mans CV and his achievements before you make any inexusable judgments. Edgar is trying his best to get qualified proffessionals into these offices- but all you see is faults ,faults with the President. Let us support the President he means well for this country. My question to most of you bloggers is “if you were in Lungu’s shoes what would you rather do differently? Most certaintly most of you would not come up to anything acceptable by your own wives or children. Stop the pull him down Syndrome ! Let Edgar rule!

    • And am so happy to work with Dambisa Moyo here in Oxford….she is so brilliant!!!!….but she says she can never join politics (let alone Zambian Politics) as long as she remains sane….She probably has a very good point, looking at insele shaaba muma politics in Zambia

  6. My brother @ Progressive (10)
These pipo have demonic jealousy about EL. They think HH has solutions to Zambia;s economic problems when the fact is that HH simply hides behind stolen money which has made him pompous. HH was simply an Audit Accountant and then became Manager. He stole money with Valentine Chitalu. This is why Luanshya is in that state. It is HH fisi (Hyena). The economy is in this manner due to the presidential elections after shocks or effects and will soon stabilize. Kwacha will go back to K5 per $. But I invite them to worry of the hurricane that will finish HH in 2016 elections. EL is building a tribally balanced and professional team consisting of young people. The era of If Mr Mutati, GBM, VJ, Masebo at Ngatabalimo ninshi tafyabombe is over. This is new start.

    • @ JL….and “your brother”…. Now that you seem to have found solace…exploit it while it lasts….you have made my day….You are so dull!!!!!!!!!

    • @jl, unless u r talking about another HH. Otherwise what u have spewed are lies. Fortunately, some of us know the true. HH never stole any money from chitalu. What a LIAR you are JL. Get a life!

  7. Ba @ 12.1
There is no solace in my views but pointing facts
Remain wrongly thinking that HH has solutions. He does not
Saying I bla bla bla will not make him president. He must get baptized a million times in his masonry church and be president in mabisi land. I think I have now made your day, Skunk

    • How many times must HH tell u SKUNKS that he is not a mason? Morons! Go to the toilet. It will help u release the poison in your bowels

    • @ 13.1
Do not worry yourself Jamakudi as nothing will sink into a coconut head! HH this or that yet deep down such peddlers know there is no truth in what they say and are full of hate and envy as though it is HH who robbed them of intelligence to prosper as he has done. For all I care I know HH is a devout Adventist, he too like anybody else has a close circle of friends who he socializes with, he is a family man and, where he has been able he has assisted those that have sought him out! Thus all these negativities targeted at him arise from bitterness of failures who have not known what being focussed and hard work entails.

  8. My piece of asdvise to our beloved ECL is that he shud not be allowed to be dragged into useless issues……they want him to divert attention to issues which will be their campaign material next year! We want u to go beyond next year Eddie!

  9. At 12.2 Jamjud
If HH is your relative or friend, sorry big time
Truth is that HH cannot explain source and growth of his wealth make him be where he is today
It is bla bla bla bla with alot of gaps.
    .

    • Then who told u the masons enrich pipo? HH simply used his acumen and intellect to build his fortune. There is no adacadabra in these things. Just hard work.

    • But you know and you have seen that the man was Head of Africa at Barclays. Do you people think through your rectums? Like what the f*ck?
THE MAN IS MORE QUALIFIED THAN YOUR FATHERS!

  10. Ba First Lady,

please remove the ink from the presidents thumb, from 20th January to date. it looks off.. use cutex remover. thank you stay blessed

  11. If he has such a CV, he is the best choice. People from the private sector seem to be more conservative with public funds.

  12. The first three in the line (vice president, president and the president himself) are poorly dressed. Especially the vice president, awe mwe. One would think they are run away rebels.

  13. Maybe now is the time to leave these onlines, until next year when it will matter again.

At the present time the onlines are full of chaff, yes chaff for that is what most of the blogs one reads today amount to. Chaff posted by empty headed chaff that does not know where the chaff bin is located to post the chaff there.

The chaff is inconsequential anyway, especially when you have useful things to keep you busy……..laugh laugh laugh!!!

    • Stop insulting my vice president Lady Inonge Wina. She fought for our independence when some of your grand parents were hiding.

  14. iye!!! ; i like single ministers. i will definitely go after him.
watch out it is me who noticed first.
