The five artistes that have been chosen as brand ambassadors for Proflight Zambia’s ‘Fly5′ campaign have expressed happiness at being considered for role, pledging to use their talents to unlock the country’s tourism potential.
The five are Chef 187, Cleo Ice Queen Kanji, Kiki and James Sakala, who will be travelling with the airline and exploring Zambia in the coming year to give fans a taste of the music, food and culture on offer across the country.

While musicians and performers in their own right, the five will join forces under the ‘Fly5′ banner to record songs and music videos that capture the excitement of Zambia’s traditional ceremonies, some of its best-known tourist attractions, adventure and exciting urban sights and sounds.

rapper and reality TV star Cleo Ice Queen described it as a great opportunity and an honourable thing.

“I am really honoured to be a part of a project that is pro-Zambia. We have a lot of work to do to communicate to the world who we are – our culture, our languages our food, our sounds and of course our tourist attractions,” she enthused. “There is no better way to achieve this than through music, as you know, music is a universal language.

And Cleo has revealed that she is currently working on her new album and is set to release a single to promote the project.

Singer Kanji, of the ‘Chi Daddy’ fame, echoed Cleo’s words that tourism and the arts can not be separated.

“I’m very happy and excited. i cannot wait to work with this group of great performers to showcase what our country has to offer in terms of tourism, travel and of course the arts,” she said.

Kanji only recently made a comeback to the music scene with an album titled ‘Zanga’ in 2014, after putting her singing career on hold for nearly ten years to pursue a career in law.

Another of the Five, Kiki Militzis, who is one half of the duo Ben and Kiki, said it was an honour to be part of the five.

“I am really happy and excited,” remarked. “It’s such a diverse group, it represent a whole new experience for me,” she added. “Honestly, there’s nothing not good about this opportunity.”

Meanwhile, National Arts Council (NAC) Chairperson Mulenga Kapwepwe has challenged the five to not only use the opportunity to market Zambia but also to grow their own portfolio as artistes.

In an interview after she officially unveiled the five, Ms Kapwepwe reiterated that tourism and the arts have a synergistic relationship, adding that the Fly5 campaign was meant to strengthen that relationship.

She revealed that a long process that involved a lot of research was employed to arrive at this particular group of artists.

She expressed confidence that the right artists have been chosen for this year’s campaign and challenged them to use the opportunity to boost their respective careers.

“This is an opportunity for our artistes,” she said. “They should use it as a vehicle to transport them, but you know you can also crash a vehicle,” she added with a laugh.

The new Fly5 team follows in the footsteps of the illustrious original Proflight Fly5 group, which was formed in 2013 and comprised of JK, Slap Dee, Pompi, and Cactus Agony along with model Petita Mwanza.

  1. For as long as Zambia remains a filthy country you can not really unlock its tourist potential. You guys should also improve on your music

    • In your quest to unlock Zambia’s tourism potential, I am kindly asking that you embark on the “lets clean Zambia” campaign.

This will augment your primary cause as people love visiting places, and besides, its healthy and gives a positive image of the country.

    • @1.1 SPOT ON. THAT’S THE FIRST THING THAT CAME INTO MY MIND. SECOND, LOCAL PEOPLE ARE NOT ENCOURAGED, THIRDLY, ZAMBIA IS NOT MARKETED OVERSEAS WHILE I SEA KENYA AND SOUTH AFRICA VIGOROUSLY MARKET ON BILLBOARDS, UNDERGROUND SYSTEMS, LONDON TAXIS, TVS, NEWSPAPERS, ETC.

PLEASE, CLEAN THE TOWNS TO ENCOURAGE TOURISTS OF ANY ORIGIN. IT’S AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

  2. I hope they’ll be singing Pure Zambian songs rather than that mongrel rap which is straight up lifting from ‘bad’ euro rap aping American rap ‘badly!’

Why could they not choose INDEGENIOUS Music Artists. If this lot are what Ms Muenga Kapwepwe terms as Zambian then she is not the right person to hea up our Arts and Culture.

Watch out Ms Kapwepwe, a new Arts & Culture authority is coming to Zambia very on. We are going to show you what Art and culture is.

Those fakes do no represent proper Zambian Arts.

  3. Well I am sorry to criticise! I remember her dad very well! Simon Kapwepwe was for Zambian indigenous identity. None of the above would have passed the mark.

Simon Kapwepwe, disproved of tight trousers mini dresses and overt sexuality. No kissing in cinema films (who remembers kisses being cut out of TV and cinema films?!)

I mean our teenage years were ruined from repression.

I am mildly amused Ms Kapwepwe grew up to approve of such artists!

It should have been Kalindula (sp) music artists etc!!!

  4. Simon Kapwepwe would NOT have approved those artists with overtly sexual messages and imagery.

He championed Zambian identity, and pure Zambian culture.

He made our teenage years miserable. He disproved of tight trousers, mini dresses, too much makeup. TV and cinema films had to cut out kissing scenes!

I am surprised this is what Ms Kapwepwe has grown up to approve. It should have been Traditional Artists that show ‘The Real Zambia,’ not these replicas that can be found in all countries aping American artists. Tourists want a different destination with a genuine new culture.
