President Edgar Lungu’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says the Head of State is in good spirits.
In an interview with the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme from South Africa, Mr Chanda said President Lungu is in a jovial and relaxed mood as he under goes medical examination at Millpark Hospital.
‘He is in good spirits. I have just visited him at the hospital and he has just been telling me and the High Commissioner in South Africa why we are leaving him, he wanted to watch some TV with us,’ ,Mr Chanda said.
Mr Chanda said, ‘President Lungu is doing well. He is just from giving instructions to the Acting President to deal with the fuel shortage in Lusaka and that he proceeds with the activities he left behind.’
Mr Chanda also clarified that reports that President Lungu fainted during the International Women’s Day event in Lusaka are incorrect.
‘The President did not collapse. It was the narrowing of the food pipe that led to a low sugar condition that made him feel sick, he didn’t faint, he felt sick. The sugar level was so low and he was unable to proceed with the procession, and he felt dizzy and weak,’ Mr Chanda said.
He added, ‘You might wish to know that when they corrected that situation, 12 minutes later he returned to the podium and addressed the crowd and said bye to them so that he could seek further attention at the hospital and that is why am saying he did not faint because he wouldn’t have addressed the crowd if he fainted.’

Falling is what happened to Mugabe. Fainting is what happened to Lungu. The one was caused by a physical misstep the other a physiological dysfunction. While I am happy that the president is doing much better now, and I have been praying for him, I would have been much happier if these pictures were coming from Maina Soko- a sense of patriotism!!
Why not try a peg tube while the throat is being treated. It’s a simple way of feeding which will help in ensuring the president has enough nutrition while he gets his treatment. The low sugars can also be controlled this way.
You can even connect the Vodka bottle directly up to the tube~!

Amos Chanda please stop hallucinating man! For your own information, Fainting is a brief loss of consciousness due to a drop in blood flow to the brain. Fainting is quick and lasts less than a couple of minutes and you recover from it quickly and completely. This is what happen to Edgar Lungu. There are many cause of fainting, some the causes are; Fear, depression, high blood pressure, certain drugs or alcohol use, Hyperventilation, Low blood sugar. We know the president uses a lot of alcohol which contains sugar and hence the issue of low sugar in his body is a fallacy. He was just drunk or anxious. Therefore, please Amos go and tell the PF cadres your rhetoric.
