President Edgar Lungu has declared a day of National Mourning in honour of the late Willie Nsanda who died at Milpark Hospital in South Africa yesterday.

In a statement released to the media by his Special Assistant for Press Amos Chanda, the President has directed the Secretary to the Cabinet to make necessary
arrangements for a Day of National Mourning on the day when burial would take
place.

At the time of his demise, Mr Nsanda was a member of the Patriotic Front (PF)
Central Committee and Chairman of the Road Development Agency (RDA). He
also previously served as Deputy Minister under the MMD government.

The President used his discretion to grant a State Funeral in recognition of the great service Mr Nsanda rendered to the nation especially in business and politics.

The President has since dispatched to South Africa, PF Secretary-General Mr Davies
Chama and another member of the central committee, Mr. Samuel Mukupa to help
with funeral arrangements.

The President regretted that the death of Mr Nsanda robbed PF of a great
party mobiliser who helped the party win the 2011 elections and participated in
various party activities.

“In moments of tragedy like this, only God is the comforter because there is nothing
that can give you solace other than our belief that God is the ultimate giver of life. Moments like this will always remind us of our mortality and thereby afford us an opportunity to express love and fraternity to one another,” the Head of State said.

  1. Honestly why waste money on someone diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer? The man was a walking corpse and you keep him in SA for more than a month? How many deserving pipo are on the queue who would have been served. And this Nsanda after stealing so much he just departs. The Administrator must be salivating.

    • It is understood that he had a large family. Perhaps we should have left this one to close friends and family. Just asking; is there a criteria for a person to be honoured with a day of National mourning or state funeral or is it at the discretion of the President as is everything else in Zambia?

    • next, sorry he has departed but for me my sympathies are with millions of poor Zambians who have died needlessly as a result of resource misappropriation, mismanagement, fraud, corruption and abuse of public office. For these crimes, I pray the almighty God punishes these thugs, I will never forgive these thugs, I have no sympathies for them and I know God detests these crooks, MHSRIED!

    • I am shocked and unreservedly dismayed by the cavernous, shameless and open hatred and disdain shown towards our departed leaders. We may not have liked the political party they belonged to and their pronouncements, but first they were human just all of us.

The abhorrence, hatred and revulsion displayed is simply unZambian. The celebrating, mocking and lack of respect for the dead is simply nauseating. Where is this coming from? politics?

Yes we may differ in our political ideologies, philosophies, policies, approach, desires, wishes, etc…,but death of any human being transcends all these.

I have never and would never celebrate the death of any leader even if i fought that they never succeed in being elected to any political office.
      This hatred must end.

    • I sympathise with his family, they must have loved him and will definitely miss. Fact though is Willie was a thug not deserving of the honors of National mourning. It is a complete waste of tax payers money.

    • LIFE IS WORTH EVERY EFFORT TO SAVE.. GOD DID NOT REASON THAT BECAUSE MAN IS ALREADY SINNED AND DYING LET ME JUST WIPE THEM OUT AND CREATE NEW ONES. HE HAD TO SEND JESUS TO OFFER A PROPETIATORY SACRIFICE TO SAVE HUMAN LIVES.. WHEN IT COMES TO SAVING LIFE, WE GOTTA TRY ALL WE CAN TO THE LAST BREATH… THANKS DOCS FOR TRYING IN THIS MANNER. SAD MR NSANDA SIR. GONE TOO SOON!

    • National mourning made simple under PF! If anything the party should have given their own a dignified funeral and not bringing the whole nation to a stand still. Thinking with the heart never propels an economy. There is nothing sacred about death and its high time Zambians stopped glorifying the dead undeservedly. Those who talk about what is being Zambian or Un-Zambian with respect to comments on the dead are just scared of death but like it or not it will visit at the appointed time and it is never accompanied with holiness for anybody. Death doesn’t change ones’ legacy.

    • @1.6 Mervis,

What difference did the death of Jesus make? None!
People were dying before “he came” and people have continued to die thousands of years since “he departed.”

Mervis, did you know that the character Jesus actually never existed?
There is no record of him elsewhere except in the bible, which by its own account is an anthology of poetic stories of the times of the Israelis.

It’s denigrating for an African to accept the bible as a word of god when an African knows, his ancestors were not reading the bible at the time of invasion by the white man who subsequently oppressed him.

All accounts were written in retrospect, beginning with Genesis, a book attributed to Moses, yet he is referenced in in it the third person?

      Galamukani!

    • LMAO……The next devil’s disciple to die is Chishimba Kambwili , his date is 17th Oct this year. Zed will be a better land once all the poverty manufacturers are gone.

    • Well there we go again, was it not yesterday or two days ago that PF lying machine was in action disputing what was obvious that Nsanda was dead? They said he was recovery and was asking about by-elections and the state of the economy. What a bunch of bollocks. They tend not to learn from the past, and now it’s a national event to further cripple the dying kwacha. Are Zambians Stupi.d? Next stop, state house again, lies after lies and a state funeral. Get a life.

    • My friend malilo nikulilana. Why make such comments. What our government did is what responsible can do on its citizens

    • Why National Mourning? was he a Minister or what? It’s a shame to see how zambia has made south African medical sector so rich with Medical bills.

The cost of Willie Nsanda’s bills plus arrangements to fly the body back would renovate Ndola central Hospital or mend those leakages you showed us yesterday.

Zambian leadership have to change their level of thinking. It is wrong and waste of Poor Zambians money.

Unfortunately we seem to have the same levels of thinking. I thought PF would bring new thinking but, It’s just same old rubbish.

We need true change not this..

    • Prostate cancer is one of the most curable cancers. Men should screen for prostate cancer when they reach a certain age!

National mourning for Willie Nsanda is a waste of time and resources. RIP player!

    • As long as PF does not invest a lot of resources honestly in health care more leaders will die as a result of late diagnosis.

They can steal millions as much as they want and neglect public services but the day to pay back with their lives is just around the corner peeping.

    • @ 1.8 Sattish.. If you’re familiar with any stylistic literature, you would have come across illeism- where one can refer to themselves in third person. Therefore, you Moses allegation are futile and baseless. Regarding Jesus not being found anywhere except the Bible; not sure if you know of a book called the Quran. Jesus is also mentioned in that book albeit with a different spin on who he was. I am not a religious person, but your arguments are simply ill-informed and ridiculous. Maybe try doing some research on the compilation of the bible and the manuscripts that were found before uttering such drivel. It is stupid to pretend that something never existed when you do not have proof for it. The comment at 1.6 is also misinformed. Jesus’ death has no implication on physical life.

  2. Surely Zambians must reflect on the way their leaders are treated when sick & let alone die! We need to have laws that are human faced where all deaths will be equal & paid the same courtesy & observation unlike this animal farm kind of funerals! Zambians more especially illiterate voters will continue dying like flies without being observed while their corrupt thieving leaders are in heaven on earth!Zambia has really collapsed & everyday its citizenry are facing new social economic maladies!Surely, the poorest of the poor will feel it under pathetic PF,its really hell on Zambia!

    • @The Civilised Sam: I agree with you, If PF want to show true leadership or change our country? They should stop this nonsense of flying people out of the country for medication.

I take this as thinking of leadership with inferiority, which believe foreign is better. Develop / Build our own hospitals? You mean in the whole PF / Parliament?? No one has thought of this?

We have a serious crisis in Zambian thinking. True change agents and leaders should lead by example. It is unfair to other poor Zambians

Not that we are attacking Nsanda?? MHSRIP. but leaders like Edger Lungu who are still alive. In addition to this, I have also observed that under PF, Motorcade for Ministers, including Inspector General of Police, is fashion? for what? it is waste of fuel….

  3. @mailon.pan your par call mudala. Just because someone is suffering from cancer non curable disease doesn’t mean pipo should just seat and wait for him to die, cancer is treatable just like HIV,Sugar,BP which are also non curable. Let’s wait for your turn to suffer from cancer and see if you will not seek treatment.

Is it true that ba mudala hammered Son’s wife?

    • Answering your question…Yep….uncivilized as it is some people still get horny over daughters in law, daughte, niece and so on and so forth …in essence, Nsanda fathered a grand child in Mwila’s wife if you know what that means..lol…by the way this was before Mwila died..

  4. Willie Nsanda started his business in the 70s. He has had buses operating from KMB to Bostwana, since the 90s, houses in all towns in the country. He still has IRISER ir series operating in the country up to Bostwana for for losers to think that he stole from RDA its shamefull
In the 80s when HH was at Unzando Willie was a big name at kmb the man was just DAMN Rich

    • @ Makandanyama, you certainly don’t know the meaning of the word rich. I conclude that you are a villager! Anyway, only low lifes like you can admire the likes of Willie Nsanda!

    • And KMB was a scary place for commuters because of Willy Nsanda and his Boys. There were bus rival groups and he was heading one in the early 90’s. What damn rich , he was a thug.

  5. If it were an opposition official would there be a national mourning?
look at lungu and his minions they are now using national properties to bring the remains of his pf cadre willie nsanda. You people this is not fair this is invidious its unacceptable!!!!

Even in lungu’s lament he has stated that nsanda will always be remembered in the patriotic front becuase he rendered a lot in the times of opposition of the destructive pf not for the national benefit. We shall continue working harder and harder for the benefit of the pf not for the country.

PF be ready to pay the consequences of your malfeasance and misconduct in the ruling of yours of this nation.Pf officials are all moving coffins but they are busy crying for the high and sinecure preferment in this country.
    Very soonit…

  6. Too bad. May His Soul Rest in Internal Peace. But they forgot to mention that he is survived by a wife Esther Phiri with no children since the were recently married. Maybe Lusaka times should be reminded to add this important data.

  7. Bane u don’t have to be literate to vote, just eligible and sane. Voting is about choice and that choice MUST be an informed choice – why quack here and yet none of u have ever gone on the road to INFORM AND EDUCATE the “illiterate” voters? As Diasporans we ARE informed but alas we are defranchised and MCS went so far as to dub us the enemy…the parties MUST sensitize and mobilise voters! fulustop.

  8. Nsanda was/has been a government official in this country but he just achieved nothing but nonsense!!!!!
In zambia there are no good medical facilities for the citizens due to poor governance but they keep on running away from interio hospitals becuase they know there are no medications.

Nsanda should go and remind edigar that its not fair just to work to fill in your pockets at expense of the innocent zambians.

Iam impressed by his demise becuaseits now clear that there misgoverning is now killing them.
Poor zambians are never evacuted abroad they just die due to lack of proper medical facilities!!!!! now he was thinking by evacuting he would survive u? useless God will always punish you by your heartlessness

  9. That is good h.e.e.l,nsanda ws a very honest and dedicated man,he dedicated his life to being a servant of the pipo especially the poor, wat a noble man zambia has lost.we will all miss u comrade nsanda mysrip

    • @Him, Mr Willie Nsanda has servrd as MP for Chimwemwe and as Deputy Minister of transport in MMD so based on that there is no abuse of executive powers, he is entitled to a state funeral, regardless of who you think he was. Go to the national assembly website and get informed. It will give you guidlines on who is entitled to be accorded state funerals, it includes formers as well mudala. So get informed first before showing off your ignorance

  10. What! National mourning for that CROOK! Don’t we have anything better to do? In Zambia we glorify thieves, crooks and swindlers but good pipo who work honestly are not recognized. Sis!

  11. I will not notice the national mourning coz I will be watching my DSTV. I’m not mourning any PF cadre at all! I’m angry that my tax money was put to waste!

  12. May His soul rest in peace mr nsanda u will be fondly missed by the well meaning Zambian and genuine Christians who believe in Christian principles i.e Love even for enemies may God redeem Zambia

  13. How much Rands has Milpark Hospital and Morning Side Clinic pocketed on zambian politicians todate? Thinking!!

    • Invite Milpark Clinic to construct a clinic here with a name like Milpark Clinic Zambia LTD. Any other name wont do because of the Zambian mentality of thinking anything local is inferior.

    • They have pocketed a fortune, courtesy of clueless and selfish Zambian leadership who even fly there for a simple knee check-up.

    • African politicians are scared of death hence running up and down to far fetched lands in search of magic elixirs for eternity. Once we comprehend death, we shall not be afraid to die even when the obvious is written on the wall. Nsanda definately knew that his time had come but chose to live in denial. Zambia has some of the best physicians in the world and when they tell you that “kulibe baba ninshi kulibe”. These are experts handling HIV related diseases admirably though operating under very strenous conditions. NEVER heard of some muzungu president trotting to china for medication. Only africans and some despots in self impoverished states in south america glob trot for elixirs but then all end up six feet under. RSVP Nsanda.

  14. Even Crooks get national mourning! Only in Zambia! He stole from RDA to build useless structures, now he’ll go as naked as he came on this earth. I declare, Those stealing at the expense of poor people will go abroad for treatment and come back as cargo! The God of the poor is watching, who is there to evacuate us when we get sick? At UTH people die like flies and nothing is done to improve the hospitals.

    • Which God? God has just allowed school children and babies to be killed in the German plane crash in the French Alps. God does not give a damn who dies. Some people call them random events. And this is where the concept of heaven comes in. If you were good you will go to heaven and if you were bad you will burn in hell.

    • Silumba sa Sata
I always find myself torn between laughing and insulting each time i see those useless structures. You can imagine the man had easy access to chinese construction companies and he puts up those stuctures. Was there even an architect involved. In the meantime those structures were built between 2011 and now the time when he was RDA Board chairman and dull Zambians will sit back and watch them being shared among this corrupt man’s family members.

  15. This President never ceases to amaze me, just look at his Godly message. You armchair critics will have to agree with me when I say that for the first time in our country’s history we have a fellow human being as President of Zambia. No pretence and posturing like other well known presidents, just pure candidness and humility.

Thank God we the sober voters made the right choice on 20 January 2015.

    Just AMAZING!

  16. This man should have been in prison not Millpark Hospital – Zambia can spend the day celebrating – one less crook/thief/thug! But too many more to go………….and too much of Zambia’s money spent on his health and Lungu’s campaign.

  17. Clearly there are regulations on who deserves a national mourning but as always the president has used his powers to for go those rules let him mourn with his fellow cadres and excluded the rest of the nation.

Mr President this abuse of office for your own benefit not the country you saw to protect its resources.

God is watching the injustice you and your government is doing. God does not forget cryies of vulnerable people you are supposed to serve.

    Mark my comments.

  18. Mr lungu is busy postponing work for him and his minions by declaring national mourning….balibe vo chita….

  19. We need a fresh government that will stop the waste of money taking dead wood politicians to South Africa and India. Crooks are given national mourning even after milking the nation. Yet the founder of Zedpad was not even given a national mourning because of the colour of his skin. My heart goes out to Nsanda’s family though for no death of a friend or a foe is good.

  20. This is what happens when you elect corrupt empty tins in State house…they will abuse their executive powers like this lazy bone Lungu is doing here. What contributions has this cadre done to the nation apart from sucking RDA dry and bankrolling Lazy bone Lungu’s campaign. Most construction projects have come to a stand still as these thieves misappropriated and overinflated the costs so the could pocket the excess and sale the contracts to the Chinese. You expect us to honour such corrupt f**ls utterly disgraceful.

Zambians wake up from your docility!!

  21. Symphathy and condolences to the family and probably Esther Phiri, but be glad that there will be reduced pangas and thuggery at party conventions.

  22. We need a Medi-Clinic or Milpark franchise right here in Zambia. At least there will be less funds spilling out of the country especially on transportation and upkeep. But then again truth be told the Zambian economy has rendered a lot of things out of reach. You know that on average Milpark is cheaper than an equivalent local, up-market health facility right here? We really need to get serious and address a lot of essential services by making them affordable, competitive, but above all, well stocked to cater for EVERY Zambian and not the pigs at the trough only. Rest in peace you who was evacuated in vain yet again…

  23. Condolence to Willie Nsada’s family. My God who dictates our destiny of life bring comfort to those left behind.

    Who was Willie Nsanda?
In those days Willie was a big time thug at Kitwe main bus station (KMB). Willie was among unschooled riffraffs threatening the general traveling public from KMB. He was incharge of collecting money from bus drivers disguising as Kitwe council levy which never went to public council authority. With his looks no one dared ask why he never surrendered money to the council. From this money Nsanda bought a old bus which was given preference at KMB to load passengers. He ruled KMB. Living in Chimwemwe he decided to stand for elections for that’s where easy money could be minted he skimmed. He terrorized Chimwemwe residents by giving them little money for

  24. little money in return for votes. Nsanda was doing this with his mob of thugs moving from house to house with guns that who ever voted differently would be identified and asked not only to refund but would have to meet their fate. My auntie who lived in Chimwemwe could not believe and had to forcibly against her conscious succumb to this no option verdict she found herself. She had small children going to school. Nsanda won elections term after term through this method. In the end Nsanda was a house hold name no one would talk against in Chimwemwe. This was Nsanda democracy. Remember him as deputy minister of transport and comms. Her could not even articulate or offer anything innovative in transport except order buses for himself and cronies and began to subject the traveling public

  25. packed like bags of beans. Accidents were/are frequent on Zambians roads. Without elaborating on morality of Nsanda, one shocking revelation may sum it all. Nsanda has left a son who had a girlfriend. The young man did not have as much money as his father. As always the case relationships do go through phases of life of hogh and low and move on as what life is all about. With Nsanda noticing weakness of his son’s relationship with his girlfriend, decided to help if its money at the center of it all. Nsanda began to offer money to his son’s girlfriend and differed greatly with his son. Eventually as all fools do to show power of money married that woman who is the current widow Nsanda has left behind. Nsanda has died leaving behind shocking corruption cases of having build a shopping mall

  26. properties PF government has to take over or else Nsanda will face prosecution in his grave.
Similarly, Kambwili who got government land (Luanshya golf club land) by false pretense and built houses posing as a successful person through thuggery and theft will have to account for his action if not in PF, will be the next which ever government. Thieves will always have a day of reckoning either here below or with their Maker.

  27. People, Mr Willie Nsanda had served as MP for Chimwemwe and as Deputy Minister of transport in MMD so based on that there is no abuse of executive powers, he is entitled to a state funeral, regardless of who you think he was.
Go to the national assembly website and get informed. It will give you guidlines on who is entitled to be accorded state funerals, it includes formers as well. So get informed first before showing off your ignorance.
    Thanks,
    Like Mushota.

  28. May his soul rest in the inferno! He stole his son’s coloured girlfriend and later married her only to divorce her over infidelity accusation. He then mocked the same son as he lay dying about how Nsanda’s money was killing the son. Nsanda was an unmitigated thug, a super-crook. Again, may his soul burn in the inferno.

  29. Upnd cadres just change the law if you don’t want your enemies to be accorded NATIONAL MOURNING. Its law. By the way why even bother as this will not interfere with your entertainment unless you can only access TVZ

  30. Yes we shall mourn this galant soldier with dignity and thank you for the National mourning put in place, MHSRIP

From your friends in Livingstone 2015

  31. Yes we shall mourn this gallant soldier with dignity and thank you for the National mourning put in place, MHSRIP

From your friends in Livingstone 2015

  32. GO WELL WILLIE.

I hope your bus companies, Bells Transport, Trans-africa luxury Coaches and Zambia Botswana will continue operating.

UPND Cadres please use buses from inter city and you will realize Nsanda was a big transporter.

Dont use those Rosa mini buses from Down town kamwala.

Or those canters where you share space with Goats, chickens and pigs.

Nsanda was reasonably rich even b4 he became RDA board Boss.

  33. Aquilla, Aquilla, Aquilla, let the departed rest in peace. You are not even in Zambia but depend on your ZWD news which is one sided and preaches hatred. Even if you want to be in power, this is not the way you harbour hatred.

  34. Mr. Chanda, which statement is correct, this one, or the one of 19th March:
“…PF Secretary General, Mr. Davies Chama says he is happy to see that party member of the central committee, Mr. Willie Nsanda has continued recovering well at Milpark Hospital where he is admitted…”
    Usual lies Mr. Chanda?

  35. National mourning has really lost its meaning in Zambia under the PF government. What business contribution is this clueless man talking about? Plundering the RDA or harassing people at bus stations as a cadre?

  36. IFINTU NI PF.

    ABASH LITTLE MINDS.

IMAGINE A TONGA BEING HEAD OF STATE FOR ZAMBIA//??

    NO WAY AISHA..

    VIVA WILLIE AND RIP

  37. National mourning has been abused by PF. Unfortunately HE behaves like a cadre and continues to carry on with reckless spending and treating Zambia like a monacrhy

  38. What? National Mourning for who? One Willie Nsanda. This goverment is truely a joke!! THIS MAN TORTURED ALOT OF PEOPLE INCLUDING HIS OWN FAMING. HIS FIRST WIFE COMMITTED SUICIDE BECAUSE OF HIM. HE GRAB HIS SON’S GIRLFRIEND INGRID WHO IS BELIEVED TO HAVE DIED OF HIV RELATED ILLNESS. HE LATER MARRIED INGRID AND LATER DUMP HER. HIS SON DIED VERY BITTER. HIS SON CURSED HIM ON HIS DYING BED. HE PUSHED HIS WAY UP BY VICTIMISING PEOPLE IN KITWE AT KMB. AND YOU CALL SUCH A MAN A HERO? PLEASE PEOPLE!!!!!!!

  39. those who are entitled to the national mourning are
    1. The President
    2. The Chief Justice
    3.The Speaker
    4.The Vice President
    5. Tragic events that impact the nation like accidents, plane crush etc
    6. The rest are at the president’s discretion.
on number 6 that’s were the problem is. Much as we feel the loss, there is no need to have so many national mourning’s in the country as it impacts on the entertainment industry. Once these industries are paralyzed even for a day, there is revenue loss on the business and less tax to the Government. I think the Government must rethink this whole issue and remove emotionalism and look at the impact on the economy. I am speaking generally I respected Mr.Nsanda although we held different political ideologies. MHSRIP.
