Hunger looms in parts of Southern Province

Share

Serious Hunger is looming in some parts of the Southern province following erratic rainfall during the 2014/2015 season.

Some of the areas badly affected by poor rains are Siadombe village in Dundumwenzi constituency and Kasizi village in Kalomo Central constituency in Chief Sipatunyama’s area.

Siadombe village headman Tatala Chuunga said his village in Chief Siachitema suffered eratic rains during the 2014/ 2015 season resulting in most of the crop drying completely.

Village Chuunga was speaking to the Zambia News and Information Services(ZANIS) in a Telephone interview in Lusaka yesterday.

Mr Chuunga said most of the villages in Chief Siachitema will be affected and appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) in the Office of the Vice President to come to the rescue of the people of Siadombe and the sounding villages.

And Kasizi Vilage Headman Lawrence Siambele confirmed in a seperate interview to ZANIS that if nothing was done now, people in his village will starve.

Mr Siambelele said despite his village being known to be one of the producers of maize, inadequate rains disappointed them during this season.

He said the people in his village would be grateful if government provides them with enough food for their survival.

  1. Minister of Agriculture take note as more evidence is being supplied to support Nawakwi’s report to you the other day.

  2. Well, go cry to your hh! Rains were just okay throughout the country, problem is that hh promised them maize without ploughing their fields.

    • PF Leader where do you come from..there was no rain in the sothern provice stupido..here in sinazonge no rain pepol are starving…

    • You must be living in a hole not to know that the country had poor rainfall. Sometimes try to exercise your brain by thinking a little.

    • I like this…at least makes Zambians discuss real issues rather than discussing the president’s health. I still say the rains were good.

    • @PF Leader, you are not going to be partisan on matters such as these. Grow up and smell the coffee. A party is only a vehicle to articulate leadership. It is not a weapon to hit out at perceived enemies. You are on the extreme end of st.upid.

  3. Ala Kabili, are these not the same cave people who claim to be self sufficient interms of food? What has changed now? let them continue eating wild fruits which they cook for 10hrs. These are very ungrateful people who are supposed to be thrown in the zambezi river so that crocodiles feast on them

    • The wather pattern has changed you moron we in the Suthern part rely on good rainfall as does the rest of the world to plant crops….

    • Meaning you are not good planners coz you are supposed to have enough food even to last another season imwe ba mujaheddin.

    • @zemuntu…..Could you kindly explain why you think they should be left to suffer like you insinuate.

What makes these people ungateful? Are you just talking without thinking or may be you have control over the rainfall patterns?

      Shallow thinking indeed.

  4. Only edgar lungu cn take us out of this economic mess we r in,he is indeed the chosen 1,lets all rally behind him

  5. Some one once said we are all endowed with the privilege to be stu.pid… I see a lot of bloggers are really abusing that privilege to the max. This is time for the agricultural ministry as well as that in charge of social security to rigorously protect these people from what might prove irreparable harm.

  6. Not to worry, everyone knows that there were going to be a lot of negative reactions. If the government with its PF at its helm wishes to starve the sOUTHERN PEOPLE , it is very ok. These are what we call vageries of nature and when they befall you then, who knows, may be this is a population check for the Southerners. We expect the people in authority not to use it as a weapon to term those intelligent Southerners, who know exactly what they want all the time. I am not from there, but I have very high regards for them. GOD BLESS ZAMBIA. Could we say this is the beginning of subdivision of Zambia? Let us try the FEDERAL system of GOVERNANCE for once. As politicians we are just beating about the bush, yet we do realise that we are different, if a country like USA did this or even UK why not

    • Foolish man if there is no rain then the grass cannot grow and if the grass cannot grow the cattle cannot eat and if the cattle cannot eat they will day. If there is no rain the crops cannot grown, if the crops cannot grow then there will be a food crisis !

  7. This is a wake up call to all politicians and electorates in zambia at large, such disaster do not see political boundaries but its the government at hand’s responsility. Lets burry the rackets of campains.
THANKS BA PF WE ARE DIEING.

  8. Very good, go and ask your aisha HH he should give you mapopwe. Did you vote for PF for you to ask for assistance?

  9. President Nawakwi vindicated. That lady needs a ministerial position. She has an intelligent mind. Now politics take a break. Let us feed our people.

  10. i know this pungwa…last time he was caught misbehaving on top of his dog….ask around and they will tell you…lyashi likaya…no wander his thinking is always backwards..pliz pardon him!!
