The University of Zambia (UNZA) says it is working on a K20 million project to build a multipurpose teaching and learning centre.

UNZA Vice Chancellor Stephen Simukanga told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the multipurpose centre will house two lecture theatres, laboratories, staff offices and a reading centre for at least 1,000 students.

Professor Simukanga said the institution has this year set aside K4 million towards the project which is estimated to cost K20 million.

He explained that the rest of the money is expected to be raised from the goodwill of the UNZA alumni.

Prof Simukanga further said UNZA will also seek support from the Ministry of Education to organize a high level official launch of the UNZA alumni and fundraising dinner.

  1. Where has Prof Simukanga been all our lives!? I am elated by this man’s initiatives and forward-thinking. It reminds me of the flurry of activity in the mid to late 90s when entities like Zamnet (under the purview of the late Siwela and Bennett, MTSRIP). We the alumni shall support you sir. Let me see if I can get you on LinkedIn.

  2. It is unfortunate that this man’s tenure of office is coming to the end. He is really an administrator. In terms of fund raising projects he has done pretty well. Look at the complex next to unza and party of the rentals unza will receive to assist in some of its financial crises.

He has improved the administration of records. I remember when he joined UNZA there were no audited accounts for a period of 8 years. Now it is a thing of the past and unza is now able to account for its resources through audited financial statements and this has improved confidence in the would financial funders. VIVA Steph.

  3. But he has failed to meet gratuity for workers….why is he not paying workers for the money they have worked for. Do not praise for nothing.

    • Perhaps one of the reasons is that the working culture of most auxiliary staff at unza is pathetic to say the least. Seems as if there’s too much nepotism at the institution; that’s why anybody can do anything without being reprimanded. There’s need for a complete overhaul of some old staff at unza. Chaps don’t deserve what they earn if you ask me!

  4. Its disgusting to see unza under people like simukanga who looks humble but useless…..retirees not paid, gratuity not paid hence he is able to buy ford rangers (vehicles) at the expense of workers and former employees. Please the government should terminate his contract on moral grounds….lacking priorities with his management. Investigate him to the fullest.
