THE Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani has deployed 300 police officers in Masaiti district on the Copperbelt to reinforce security ahead of this Tuesday’s parliamentary by election.

Ms Libongani who was speaking in Masaiti yesterday when she paid a courtesy call to Masaiti District Commissioner Joseph Mwambana said the Zambia Police wants to ensure that all political parties hold their campaign rallies in a conducive environment.

Ms Libongani who was in the area to check on the camps that have been established ahead of the by election said the Police had strengthened security in the district with police officers from Kamfinsa and Luanshya.

“We want to ensure that political parties hold peaceful rallies, all the political parties have notified us about their campaign rallies and they have been held under a conducive environment,” Ms Libongani said.

She also disclosed that the Zambia Police will receive 400 vehicles which would be distributed to all the Police stations in the country on a phase basis.

She named Masaiti and Kafulafuta constituencies as being among the first to receive the vehicles under phase one in August this year.

And Masaiti District Commissioner thanked Ms Libongani for her support in ensuring that the campaigns were violent free.

Mr Mwambana said despite the area lacking a number of social amenities the political parties had been able to hold peaceful campaigns.

He appealed to the Inspector General of Police to open up more police stations because the area had an increase in crime.

“We only have two police stations in the district, but my request is consider opening up more police posts,” he said.

He said police officers in the area were facing challenges of accommodation and had no operational vehicles to conduct patrols.

In response the IG assured the DC that the problem of accommodation would be resolved because the Ministry of Home Affairs had a project to construct houses for the Zambia Police officers.

  1. What for 300 to intimidate voters
    PLEASE MASAITI PIPO VOTE
UPND CANDIDATE DONT VOTE FOR RB
    RB IS THE PRESIDO

    • People of Masaiti will vote PF as it is the party for hope for Zambia’s prosperity, and UPND lead by the free mason will never be an alternative for government. HH will just come and eat our children. He is recently from UK where he mate his fellow masons and his mission is start killing innocent souls of Zambians till 2016 and recent kafue and Mazda accidents are the early signs that he has started executing the mandate

  2. Well, this Libongani sounds like campaign manager of PF. Masaiti will be the first to receive 300 vehicles, 300 police personal, 300 houses, whatever! No doubt a PF cadre.

    • Exactly my thoughts. She’s campaigning under the cover of providing security to ‘all parties’, yet she’s promising to donate vehicles after elections. Can the new mp tie her down to her words and make sure she donates what she promised. Cadres in police uniform.

  3. Zambia Police need a lot of Motor vehicles not Police posts. Ever thought of Electric cars? Good for the policing the Country and cheaper to run. A lot of Benefits. Tell the President this.
We have a lot of Sun and we are not benefitting from it. Come guys.
Solar is good for the Countryside Electricfication and excess can be sold back to the National grid.
    I rest my case.
