Do not retaliate remain peaceful -HH urges Zambians in light of xenophobic attacks

Share

Fellow citizens, through the High Commissioner for South Africa, I would like to call for calm in that beautiful country of South Africa. The recent images of xenophobia that have led to the maiming and in some instance killing of foreigners in that country.

The events of the past weeks are very unfortunate and should not be happening in an African country or indeed any other country in the world where love should be the precursor in everything we do. The South African Government must act now to avert this from spilling over to the other countries. The potential of retaliation is very high, and that could engulf the whole continent. Let us avoid this as much as possible.

To my fellow citizens, I am reliably informed that there are plans for a protest against South African establishments. All protests to register displeasure over these xenophobic attacks must be PEACEFUL. There is no need to retaliate. The South Africans resident in Zambia should go about their business without fear of being maimed or killed as a result of events in their home country.

To the PF Government, let them rise to the occasion and account for all our citizens in South Africa. Every responsible Government must and should have issued a statement by now from the highest office to give assurance to us all that all our relatives that are there are safe. This has not been done. I urge President Lungu to quickly instruct his embassy in South Africa to give him a report on the state of all Zambians in that country.

As I end, let me state again that all Zambians should remain peaceful in your protests and embrace our brothers and sisters from South Africa irrespective of what is happening in their country of origin.

  1. Iwe talalafye stop pretending you are Jesus. Ichikalipa chumfwo mwine so he is the one who knows whether to retaliate or not.

    • Asking PF to account for Zambians is asking too much. The PF Police Force just stopped people from having a peace demonstration to show solidarity to our brothers and sisters being harassed in SA. What kind of shallowness is this? PF cadres wielding machetes would have been allowed to match with police protection

    • @Peace Maker; The statement below is patronising as I do not think anyone in Zambia was planning on “reitaliation” or “violence”.

“To my fellow citizens, I am reliably informed that there are plans for a protest against South African establishments. HH should learn to “talk to his fellow citizens” and when to make such appeals. At this time, it a case of talking and if things turned violent then as a leader of UPND he can appeal for calm and the rest. Otherwise I see this as trying to gain relevance and mileage

    • HH how dare you pretend, when you’ve hired the whole entire UK UPND Executive Team to be preaching hate and fabricate illicit stories about Edgar Lungu. |To the extent of creating a fake prescription.

These are the guys behind the hate on the ZambiaWatchDog. Don’t you realise that what you doing via your UK Chola Boys tantamount to what is happening in SA, cause its all born from Hate of another human being

I guess the voters in the last 3 elections have taught you a lesson.

Keep preaching hate on Watchdog, while Zambia keep starting to love Edgar Lungu more and more, one day after another. So far Edgar has humbled himself.

    • Apart from this statement which HH has given, what else or action do you expect from Him when he is not even in government? Well spoken Mr. President

    • Ubuntunga I think if this was given as a case study in your exams, your examiner will give you 0% because you do not understand a single word in the statement above. Please go back to school it is not too late.

    • Iwe chi ubuntungwa u are an *****. Surely what’s wrong with that timely statement obviously u are mad, this hatred won’t take u anywhere mr tribalist

    • WHAT A STUPID ADVICE. SINCE WHEN DID ZAMBIA STARTED RETALIATING TO SUCH BACKWARD BEHAVIOUR? ZAMBIANS ARE VERY CIVILIZED ALONG THOSE LINE THEY DON’T NEED TO BE REMINDED. WE ARE ABOVE XENOPHOBIA AND ALL HATE CRIMES AGAINST OUR NEIGHBOURS ALTHOUGH THE OPPOSITE IS NEVER TRUE.

  2. The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. We need to act. The Zambian Government needs to condemn the South Africans in the strongest terms. If possible, we need civillians and political parties to protest and if possbile even break Aouth African establishments so that they feel the wrath following their inhame behaviour towards other African citizens. This message is very stupid and shows you are not serious. African leaders need to shout on top of the roof against these backward south africans

    • I am in agreement with you. HH has said what the president should have said and he deserves to be recommended for it. Zambia will one day be a blood bath if the ruling party does not tame it s panga wielding cadres. What is happening in South Africa should be condemmned strongly as we Africans have never been cruel to each other before except for power hungry despots like Mugabe, Idi Amin to name just two. Remember the genocide in Rwanda.

  3. During my recent visit to Zambia for a funeral recently, I noticed too that there are equally many SOMALIANS at Kapiri Mposhi dealing in all sorts of tuntemba businesses. This is not to say I am against this trend, but in view of what’s happening in RSA, our Government MUST sit down prompt and plan ahead with migration.

War will break-out in Zambia shortly (especially at Kapiri) where ‘foreigners’ are fast taking root and mostly without proper visa/passport documentation. GRZ must learn from these mistakes happening in South Africa including Kenya where a University was attacked and many innocent young lives lost. We must put our house in order if and what is going on is anything to go by.

We are quick to blame the western world about racism etc., well? Here we are now, what…

  4. But HH is the advocate of such evil acts , how he in his own words was ploting evil against his own zambian brothers belonging to one other tribe . I don’t know if he has changed about his tribalism

  5. Mr Hichilema, you probably mean well in your message. However, please note that you have just lost yourself about 10% of your votes, if not more, including mine. I wish Mr Sata was still alive. He wouldnt have taken this nonsense from South Africans.

I had decided to support UPND all the way because of their brilliant policies. Our brothers and sisters are being burnt alive for absolutely nothing and you come up with such cheap shots to south diplomatic?

There is time for everything. If diplomacy is more important for you than the multitude of lives in South Africa, then you’ve got your priorities twisted. Close those South African business like Nigeria is threatening to do. Allow the march to the South African Embassy. This isnt time for cute talk. And where is Mr Lungu?

    • Blood is thicker than water. This is no time to be Mr Nice guy. Mr Lungu is way too slow. This is the time when Zambia needed to lead by example. We (Zambians) were in the forefront of the liberation of Africa. Thank God for KK. That is a true leader. Not these cute politics. Close the South African Embassy, stop buying the South African products, in fact, close the South African businesses.

Mr HH, you need to apologize to Zambians for this nice for nothing speech. If you need our votes next year, then prove to us that you care for every Zambian regardless of where they are at the moment. Cant you people learn from USA. USA cant leave 1 American no matter where he/she is, if he/she is in trouble. Wake up people and stop being short sighted.

    • You are almost 100% right and certainly so where HH is concerned. I do not want to presume that his softly, softly message is intended to please his fellow business associates and those he intended to bring in should he have won the presidential elections.
Nonetheless, there is a report here on LT that Lungu is consulting with Mugabe (The current Chair of the AU). We have to acknowledge that “he is doing something” and just not shouting the loundest from state house with media and press releases unlike some.
As head of state faced with a problem affecting the continent, it is wise to consult the structures and take a united from. Having said that, I commend Nigeria for its strong position and also Malawi for thinking about its people first.

    • no wonder you call yourself worry because you like war, and who told you that all South Africans are doing it? Please (It’s a worry) grow up.

  6. No fking way! Only cowards would allowed to be massacard and do nothing about it!

Just look at the Xenophobic violence in South Africa: IN PICTURES!!!

It is very unacceptable in this modern day and age. South Africans killing fellow Africans must know that there is a lot of South African companies doing business across the African continent.

  7. This is the beginning of the fall of the south african economy. What job does Zwelithini want when he is already employed as a king.
Indeed this is global economic warming where asians fight asians, africans fight africans and europians fight each other and can’t cross their jerico-like borders freely

  8. Thank you sir for the good advice but you should have said that Zambians must boycott South Africa products and if they dont stop killing our brothers and Sister then we close their companies. These dull people must be punished.

  9. This matter is not for one person to spearhead. The masses will speak and they have already spoken but the polize threw in gabbage and that’s the problem with women leadership. Boycotts are one channel of communication and therefore should be allowed. HH should not be undermining the leadership of the president by coming up with cheap symphathize-with-me or me-I-can-do-better-than-him statements. Remember Kolopa.com!!

  10. Xenophobia should be condemned at all costs however, South Africa has got too many illegal immigrants in the country and Nigerians are in the forefront of promoting crime. They have destroyed many lives of innocent girls, they have become the champions of child trafficking from countries such as Malawi and Mozambique. The have turned South Africa into sodom and Gomorrah.

  11. The zambian government have already insured the statement. Please read before insuring any statement in the name of getting votes

    • close down Shop rite and all South African bussinesses and how many Zambians will join the ranks of the unemployed, these places do not have South Africans working there but Zambians, thought before action.

  12. The problem is that hh feels n want to behave like he is Republican president. Hell no sir, you re just a president of an association called upnd.

  13. Two wrongs do not make a right. Please do not take the law in your hands. Many foreign nationals have been affected and if each country turns against the INNOCENT South Africans in their respective country, we shall end up doing more harm than good. Lets do what is conviniently possible like PEACEFUL demonstrations. Lets reciprocate those hooligans folly wisely and allow the law to take its course. We are equally affected here in Kenya. Be calm please.

  14. Mupona wake hh.
He wants to appear to instruct the elected and beloved Republican President.
When it leaked to him that Essau Chulu was to be appointed Chairman for Election Commission of Zambia, he prematurely asked the President to do so. The following day the president did so. HH wants to make Zambians think that he is ahead of the President. What a cheap way of politicking. U5 hh please grow and agree that EL is far above your cheap rhetoric and useless messages. Start preparing for a big shock in 2016 elections. Kolopa.com spiced with neg-nega baboons formula. Forever king our loved President EL.

  15. She that talks gives sense, but if by oneself you feel pomp and try to be first to speak before the emissary who is supposed to it becomes so awkward and foolish.

Even if someone is dead there is need to prepare and program as to how and who will be in-charge to carryout the task.

Don’t cross the bridge before you reach; ushiumfwa nangula cipelelo aile na mafi kubuko – you will go with stool on your clothes to your inlaws if you do not listen and humble your self .

Be slow to speak a humble mouth is a jewel in the velvet,A loud and boisterous mouth show just how one is foolish. Uko mukatekela lukanya

  16. I love the guy, Guy Scott. This is what he said on South Africa in case you missed it or to refresh your memory. “The South Africans are very backward in terms of historical development. I hate South Africans. That’s not a fair thing to say because I like a lot of South Africans but they really think they’re the bees’ knees and actually they’ve been the cause of so much trouble in this part of the world. I have a suspicion the blacks model themselves on the whites now that they’re in power. ‘Don’t you know who we are, man?'”
He compared President Zuma to the last apartheid leader, FW de Klerk. “He’s very like De Klerk. He tells us, ‘You just leave Zimbabwe to me.’ Excuse me, who the hell liberated you anyway, was it not us? I mean, I quite like him, he seems a rather genial…

  17. SENIOR UPND MEMBERS TO REPRIMAND HH OVER HIS CARELESS AFFAIR WITH MUSICIAN SABOI IMBOELA

Regular night visits and frequent trips to musician Saboi Imboela’s home by the UPND leader has earned Hakainde Hichilema a strong reprimand from his close associates.

Saboi Imboela, musician and now University Lecturer is in charge of the media for the UPND together with former Evelyn Hone Lecturer Clayson Hamasaka.

She also coordinates other music artists for the party.

Saboi is also aspiring to stand in Kafue or Chilanga constituencies under the blessing of the party.

“Our leader knows that we are in constant battle with a vicious system. So it is surprising that he has become over confident and quite careless with his social conduct” disclosed a senior leader.

    “He can’t be…

    • The problem with us Zambians is that we think leaders are super human beings who cant fall sick, who cant have sexual feelings and so on. They are all human beings. Empires have fallen through sex, Cleopatra comes to mind. President Jefferson slept with his negro maid who was only 14 and it has only been confirmed now with the advent of DNA testing that some of his descendants have African blood.

  18. Zambians can not retaliate, we are always peaceful, HH should rather call the SA government to act responsibly, and not the other way around ! !
