Opposition People’s Democratic Party President George Mpombo has ruled out disbanding his party despite forging an alliance with the ruling Patriotic Front in the just ended April 14 by-elections.

Dr. Mpombo says the fact that he supported and campaigned for the ruling PF during Tuesday’s parliamentary by-election in Masaiti does not mean he has sold his soul to the ruling party.

He has told Qfm News by telephone that as a leader of an opposition political party he will still criticize the PF government if it goes out of the way of what is expected of it by the Zambian people.

Dr. Mpombo has explained that much as he is aware that the trend where opposition political parties continue to enter into political alliances during elections with a ruling party does affect the vibrancy of a democratic country’s political landscape, he decided to work with the ruling PF because his party has found difficult to enter into an alliance with any other opposition political party.

He says this is owing to the political intolerance that is still prevailing in the country.

Dr Mpombo states that while it is expected that his party should provide checks and balances to the party in government, it is still within the bounds of its vision of effectively contributing to good governance in the country and that he does not foresee his party departing from this vision.

He states that his party is happy with the outcome of the Masaiti Parliamentary by-election which was scooped by PF’s Michael Katambo.

  1. Ati i am an Opposition Leader when in the actual fact you are the only member. This dirty looking man is same as Fr Bwalya

    • Just say it was payback time of the commuted remainder of jail term. There is no shame in returning the favour, it is expected.

    • Another shameless, desperate job-seeker tucking his tail between his legs and grinning at Lungu. PF won’t let you get any job in their govt. Ask Mulongoti, he was recently mourning that PF have shared all the jobs in govt.

    • Imwe munthu umudzi naye ni Party? It is a problem when even your wife and children hold PF party membership. He should just take a leaf from Frank Bwalya and do the honourable thing of disbanding his “Party” and officially join the PF.

  2. It is a matter of choice between UPND & Pf. The rest of the so called parties are personal to holder and cannot survive outside family membership.

  3. Please, leave ba Mwisho ba Mpombo. have pity on this poor Zed dictionary. rember that ba mfumo was in prison. so you understand why he ca’t even look after himself. Even the suit could be from Mahtani prison fellowship. remember ba Mfumu had a bounced cheque because he had no money. Ba Mfumu had a ka Ntemba party because he thought he could escape prison being a ka Ntemba president. His one man mpombo party folded before he went to join General Kanene.

  4. Mpombo has just lost his lexicographic campus. What are the vicissitudes in what he has just tried to elucidate? All that has ensued from him is rebarbative rhetoric!

  5. My foot! Dr George Mpombo, Dr Cosmo Mumba, Dr Mike Mulongoti…….the list goes on. They all seem to lead parasitic lives despite their ‘doctorates’. No value addition to the well-being of this country. Sheer waste of time and money!

  6. As far away as Nairobi, we well know that Zambia has two political parties, PF and UPND. All the rest are briefcase parties hanging around with their “owners” finding the highest bidder. The outcome of any major (presidential) election paves way for these briefcase parties. They are ‘swallowed’ unconditionally by the winning party as they were job-seeking platforms from the word go. Mpombo should simply accept the reality and stop beating around the bush..Moreover he is a spent force who has lost relevance.
