FAZ confirms Simukonda’s Chipolopolo appointment

Share

FAZ has confirmed appointing veteran Nchanga Rangers trainer Fighton Simukonda as Zambia assistant coach.

Simukonda,57, joins the Honour Janza led Chipolopolo bench ahead of Zambia’s participation at next month’s COSAFA Cup in South Africa.

FAZ spokesman Nkweto Tembwe confirmed one of the poorly kept secrets on Saturday.

“Fighton Simukonda has been attached to the national team bench,” he said.

Simukonda replaces Dutch coach Nico Labohm who assisted Janza during the 2015 Africa Cup qualifiers and at the actual tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

“Nico Labohm was brought just to work with Honour Janza during qualifiers and the Africa Cup,” Tembwe said.

This is the third time Simukonda is serving as Chipolopolo assistant coach.

As interim coach Simukonda guided Zambia to winning the 1998 COSAFA Cup in Zimbabwe.

He has won the FAZ Super League title three times as coach besides becoming the first trainer to guide a Zambian club to the group phase of the CAF Champions League when he guided Zesco United to the league phase in 2009.

    • Kalu was right when he said Janza is not qualified…check the CV for Simukonda….”As interim coach Simukonda guided Zambia to winning the 1998 COSAFA Cup in Zimbabwe.

Can some one give me the CV for Janza….

    • Zambia needs coach & assistant with swaggy… All those batch of born-agains (Janza, Chintu, Simukonda) are damn boring, what are prayers halleluja halleluja going to help win. Bring in NOISE coaches who can pull supporters and sell jerseys.
These day only politicians use Zambian scarfs!!

    • Nostadamas I don’t find your comment enlightening not even funny. Let me remind u that shouting hallelujah brought down the walls of Jerico. By mare speaking the whole universe was created. The fact that ur discriminating against born agains is being interprated as your lack of respect for the almighty. What people do or don’t will never add or subtract anything from one fact: GOD IS GREAT. Janza may have failed but that doesn’t make his God a failure

  1. Cheap is expensive indeed. Now cheap Janza is gonna be ‘assisted’ by expensive Simukonda. It would be economically sensible to fire Janza and hire Simukonda. Janza is a poor coach whatever his paper qualifications might be.

  2. Congratulations to both coaches. I pray that they understand each other and work together for the nation’s sake.
Both coaches are humble and well trained, able to deliver for the Nation.

  3. Remember Nchanga Rangers officials was among those pushing for Galu to become a life president.
Assistants coming in from Mexico and Netherlands but no talk contracts everything is done under the table by corrupt Galu. Why continue to torment Janza and put him out of his misery?

  4. Ok FAZ but i hear that you give Janza an option to choose a coach who can help him and he submitted to you FAZ nanes of two coaches Patrick Phiri and George Lwandamina but we know you FAZ you already had a name in your cards in the name of Fighton Simukonda anyway we’re watching

  5. Ok FAZ but i hear that you give Janza an option to choose a coach who can help him and he submitted to you FAZ names of two coaches Patrick Phiri and George Lwandamina but we know you FAZ you already had a name in your cards in the name of Fighton Simukonda anyway we’re watching

  6. Bembas FAZ administrators are victimizing our own Tonga national coach, Janza. Why do you hate us Tongas, you Bembas??? Why???

  7. FAZ kuwayawaya fye. Make a decision like men. Honour has no contract. What will be Fighton’s role?
While Fighton, like Patrick Phiri, Chicken George, Fred Mwila, etc are great coaches who can positively guide our teams the leadership being provided by our FA is mediocre.
But like in every sphere of our society we seem to have accepted mediocrity as a way of life.

    • Very true my brother. Just look at the grammar In the media’s reports. Perfectionism has been thrown out of the window

  8. Come out in the open… Who will you offer a contract as head coach?? The head coach must choose his assistants. Those impossed on him will not have a good work relationship, FAZ, Learn from the happenings at Nkana.

  9. Simukonda should take over. I was disgraced in West Africa. European coaches resign after a pathetic outing like the one we had.

  10. It is a welcome move. Let Fighton Simukonda join the coaching staff. Looking at his background as a player and coach, I believe that Simukonda is ripe enough to add value to the performance of our national team. Janza may have worked with Herve Renard, but his background and experience is not as strong as Fighton Simukonda’s.

  11. I really don’t know why Kalu and his crew always sideline George “chicken” Lwandamina, amongst the local coaches he can do better. At under 20 level he did well, due to reasons known to KAPASO Kalu and DJ Nkweto brought in Hector Chilombo who failed as terribly. Pliz, if u have any issue with George sort it out.

  12. its better they hire Lwandamina and Simukonda and then Janza goes back to technical director. secondly, we need proper strikers at cosafa, we can even use mbesuma and that boy who scored against nigeria u23. kalengo and jackson mwanza are suspect. we need overlapping number two and three for us to create nice scoring opportunities through crosses.
