TRANSPARENCY International Zambia (TIZ) has hailed Republican President Edgar Lungu on the role he has taken in the fight against corruption.

TIZ executive director Goodwell Lungu who was speaking in Ndola during a Public Procurement Monitoring training workshop at Zanji Lodge said his organisation was happy that President Lungu has not interfered in the investigations against senior government officials.

“We are happy that the President has not interfered with the investigations for government officials being investigated,” he said.

Recently the Anti Corruption Commission arrested then Southern Province permanent secretary Annie Sinyangwe.

Speaking at the same workshop Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) investigations officer John Ilunga pointed out notable areas that were vulnerable to corruption which include issuance of permits, licenses, and certificates.

Mr Ilunga said members of the public were not supposed to bribe anyone to acquire permits or licences because the officials handling were being paid by the government.

He urged members of the public that had information on corruption to report to ACC as they would be protected under the whistle blowers ACT.

“The whistle blowers Act ensures that people are fairly treated,” Mr Ilunga said.

He advised government departments to always follow the guidelines required for tender procedure and invite officials from ACC so that everything was transparent.

He said members of the tender committee should declare interest, as that could result in arrest once his office discovers that a member of the committee failed to declare interest.

“ ACC has a right to investigate a tender committee once they go against the tender procedure and members should always declare interest before bidding,” he said.

He also advised the media to always seek clarification with his organisation when ever they have any corruption allegation story so as to allow them to secure the evidence.

RDA Benny Kashimoto said his organisation had set up a monitoring procedure to prevent corruption in the procurement process.

Mr Kashimoto said some of the members in the procurement committee were independent members.

And the Norwegian Embassy representative Kari Thorsen paid tribute to TIZ for its activities and for inviting government agencies to educate participants on their roles.

“We are happy with the presentation from the government agencies, these officials are brave,” Ms Thorsen said.

Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) and Civil Society Poverty Reduction (CSPR) also made presentation during the two day workshop.

The participants were drawn from Ndola, Kitwe, Luanshya and Kalulushi.

    • Yeah, is this Lungu a brother or cousin to Chagwa? Typical! What would you expect? He should have excused himself from commenting instead of using the occasion to show how useless and clueless TIZ is.

  1. MR. GOODWELL LUNGU, DO NOT INSULT OUR INTELLIGENCE. PRESIDENT LUNGU CAN ONLY BE PRAISED BY BENEFICIARIES OF CORRUPTION. HOW CAN THE MASTER AND PROMOTOR OF CORRUPTION FIGHT CORRUPTION? THAT WOULD AMOUNT TO SCORING IN HIS OWN GOAL. JUST TO HIGHLIGHT A FEW CASES OF PRESIDENT LUNGU’S SUPPORT FOR CORRUPTION: 1- THE EMBRACING OF A PERSON BEING PROSECUTED FOR CORRUPTION, RB; 2- HE ALLOWED THE TAKE OVER OF ZAMBEZI PORTLAND BY FORCE WITH THE SUPPORT OF ZP OF WHICH HE IS THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF; 3- HE RECENTLY ADOPTED CORRUPT PEOPLE TO STAND ON PF TICKET IN THE RECENT PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTIONS; 4- HE IS CONSPECUOUSLY QUIET ON THE AIRPORT CORRUPTION SAGA; 4- IN THE MASAITI BY-ELECTION HE CORRUPTED THE UPND CAMPAIGN MANAGER, MUKABILA; IN SOME INSTANCES HE USED THE KITWE CRIMINAL FAWAZ AND MULUBWA.

  2. CONTINUED: PRESIDENT HAS BEEN SILENT ON KAIZER’S ALLEGED CORRUPTION. CAN MR. GOODWELL LUNGU BE GOOD ENOUGH TO TELL US THE INTANCES OF PRESIDENT LUNGU’S CORRUPTIONFIGHT? WE ARE AWARE THAT HENRY BANDA IS NO LONGER FUGITIVE AS HE COMES INTO THE COUNTRY AS AND WHEN HE WANTS SINCE PRESIDENT LUNGU’S ASCENDANCY TO POWER. PLEASE MR. GOODWELL LUNGU SPARE US THE AGONY, WE KNOW THAT PRESIDENT LUNGU DOES NOT HAVE THE WILL AND THE CAPACITY TO FIGHT CORRUPTION.

    • That is what is meant by not interfering. Why should he comment on a case that is with ACC? Use your brains man

    • @ Ndaje Kahks

If the case is with ACC, then how Kaizer has not been suspended?
As a matter of fact, EL took him to SDA ceremony.

Some thieves are different than other thieves?

  3. Aba ba makaka why do they lie. Did he put a gun to your heads and say this is what you’re going to write? People things won’t change if we keep eating and suck*ing their b*a*l*l*s and b-u-l-l-s*h*i*t enough is enough. Awe let the next elections come soon. Chakolwa why are you not talking about corruption in your yard? In Kabwe the machine for HIV/AIDS patients has been broken for two weeks now and nothing has been done. You would rather people die of something that is manageable. $500 000 on a home by Mulenga Sata in another country yet we can’t even worry about people’s health? What a president and a bunch of buffoons he has as ministers. This is very upsetting and really annoying. We will all die someday the only difference is some care for other while others don’t yet expect it…

  4. Ba lt.these are PF vuvuzelas they don’t even have shame to put such a stu.pid headline.we know lungu is paying you for publishing rubbish.

  6. It looks like LT is Lungu’s Vuvuzela. Why are they quiet on the issues of Nigerian Oil? Recently Nigerians have gone to an extent of requesting Henry Banda to be extradited to Nigeria to answer issues concerning the oil deal. This is the deal where Rupiah Banda the father to Henry who is a close associate to Lungu has been involved.

This Badwell Lungu can lie openly like this or may be he has been misquoted. 2016 kaise bwangu mwee twabepwa pafula.
