The Grand Coalition on the Campaign for the People Driven Constitution has confirmed participation in the opposition UPND’s countrywide May 14 constitution protests.
Coalition spokesperson MacDonald Chipenzi says for the fact that the opposition UPND is a member of the Grand Coalition its protests are also part of the Grand Coalition’s activities.
Mr. Chipenzi has explained to Qfm News that it is therefore difficult for the entire Grand Coalition to distance itself from the activities of its constituent member that takes a proactive role.
He says this is especially that the Grand Coalition has resolved not to be ever interested in any piece meal amendments to Zambia’s constitution and will thus do everything possible to stop maneuvers that are meant to validate or authenticate the move government wants to take with respect the enactment of the country’s new constitution.
The Grand Coalition spokesperson has disclosed that to this effect his Coalition has put every option on the table in addition to the instruction it has given to its member to be proactive in this endeavor of stopping government’s planned constitution engineering.
He says this entails that Grand Coalition members can take any action they deem fit will compel the Patriotic Front government to listen to the people’s demand.
CHIPENZI IS UPND. AND THESE PLANNED DEMONSTRATIONS HAVE BEEN PLANNED BEFORE BY SUCH GROUPINGS AND HAVE YIELDED NOTHING. THEY ARE ALWAYS SHUNNED
What are the clauses that UPND want in the constitution? Let them spell that out now so that we can make an informed decision to join them or shun them. Let the government also come out with changes that they are taking to the parliament to pass and changes that they will take to general elections for a referendum. This way we the people of Zambia will know who is making sense and who is not honest with us, the voters of Zambia.

Grand coalition has always been Upnd. What’s special about the blessing. I believe zambians have come out of age to be followers even for useless and undemocratic processes. No one has refused the idea of a constitutional amendment. It’s the factors surrounding it that we have to avoid otherwise we will be just doing constitution amendment year in year out.
Some of these NGOs with their UPND really overrate themselves. I just pray that PF in their S t u p i d i t y do not refuse them the permit to demonstrate. In fact they should give them the permit to demonstrate everyday until the electoral changes are table in parliament. Let’s see what crowds they will pull. These people have no political constituency and just yapping to impress their non-influencial online crowd

I support a new constitution but the involvement of the Grand Coalition therein turns the whole project political and unworthy.
UPND is not a factor, it is not a national party, UPND is a party for Southern Province and let not the police deny them permit to go ahead and they will see that they only have people from Southern Province who support them. No other province will support them apart from GBM and wife from Northern Province.

UPND mwalaipusha. Surely don’t we have people who can advise. Only those people who have gone to school understand the importance of the constitution. If UPND understands the importance of a constitution why don’t they go for conversation? If they can’t respect their constitution how are they going to respect the republican constitution?
Only UPND misfits will take part in the so called demonstrations for a people driven constitution. Show me the animal driven constitution before you can convince me to join you. If you are not going to show me the animal driven constitution, then be content with the current constitution which is also people driven. If there are any flaws in the current constitution , let the due process of reforming it take effect and not resorting to jungle tactics.
