POLICE in Lusaka have arrested 42 suspected political cadres for alleged conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Lusaka Province commissioner of police Charity Katanga said in an interview yesterday that out of the 42 suspects, 22 are women.

Ms Katanga said the suspects were arrested yesterday around 11:30 hours on Church Road near Lusaka Central Police Station.

Ms Katanga said police have detained the suspects, aged between 21 and 52, and they will appear in court today.

She said the cadres were marching carrying placards demanding land.

She said police have established that the cadres protested because their colleague identified as Gift Ng’andwe was arrested in connection with alleged illegal land transactions at the Galaunia Farm in Lusaka’s Chamba Valley.

Ms Katanga warned that police will not allow lawlessness and advised people to use the right channels to air grievances.

“We will not allow lawlessness to take centre stage in this country,” Ms Katanga said.

Police last Friday raided part of Galaunia Farms in Mutumbi area of Lusaka, where suspected political cadres were allegedly illegally allocating land and part of the group has since sued Galaunia Farm.

Meanwhile, CHAMBO NG’UNI report that a 22-year-old man of Kapiri Mposhi has allegedly beaten his 55-year-old father to death on suspicion that he was using witchcraft to have sex with his wife in her sleep.

The suspect identified as Michelo Miyoba is alleged to have used an axe handle to beat up his father Albert Miyoba and inflicting multiple injuries on him, which subsequently led to his death

Central Province deputy commissioner of police Edwin Bwanga said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened on Sunday between 20:00 hours and 21:00 hours.

Mr Bwanga said Michelo attacked Mr Muyoba while he was trying making a call on his cell phone.

“Michelo allegedly killed his father on suspension that he was practicing witchcraft.

“The body was found about 200 metres from his house in a pool of blood with a deep cut under the ear and it also had a bruised neck,” Mr Bwanga

He said Mr Miyoba had earlier differed with Michelo on how to share their maize harvest.

Mr Bwanga said Michelo bolted after allegedly committing the crime and is on the run.

He said the body is in Kabwe General Hospital mortuary and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

  1. why cant you say PF cadres instead of insinuating that suspected political cadres when the truth is known that they are PF cadres who where sharing galunia farm illegally. LT, you are is now a PF mouthpiece i will stop reading your trash aggregated rotten news

    • These PF, they are copying everything from Zimbabwe. How can anyone demand land in Zambia? the is plenty of free land.

    • End lawlessness in the country.

I don’t care which political party these cadres are from, the law must be applied to th e full

  2. What is wrong with peaceful demonstration? What is lawlessness in its definition?
There is no evidence violence by these guys.

  3. Ba Lusaka time just say suspected PF cadres so that we have more information and decide in 2016. Give us full news wis details than giving us half baked news

  4. Who told these cadres that everyone should own land in a city. Not even in USA or UK does everyone own land or a house. If they cant afford to buy land or a house, its hard luck but I will never support pipo who just decide and start sharing someone’s land. On this one,I support Edgar Lungu.Continue caging them sir,Sata and Rupiah spoiled these loafers.

  5. The idea of making promises that you can not fullfil is as dangerous. PF is known to be good at this. During Late SATA’s reign, it was the similar kind of thing. One thing to realise is that there is a lot of unemployment even in te developed world and leaders there never make promises, all they do is to make sure financial resources is pushed into EDUCATION, so that these youths once educated , they are able to take care of themselves and they even become more creative rather than depending on government. These unskilled youth we have now all they look up to is to owning pieces of land so as to start peasantry agriculture. They think it is that simple, but hey, it is something else. ADVISE. GOVERNMENT SHOULD PUMP MORE MONEY IN EDUCATION, leaders seem to be interested in un educated…

  6. I still blame KK who gave foreigners like Galaun such vast tracts of our prime land for FREE. Now they’re selling it to Zambians at exorbitant prices. Government must protect its people from exploitation. Foreigners who get free land must not be allowed to sell it freely on open market. If they have no more need for the land, it must revert back to government for re-allocation.

  7. Government must get back the land from galun which is idle and redistribute to the citizens who are the rightful owners of the land. Foreigners should not be given priority over Zambians . This is how it started in Zimbabwe.A stitch in time saves nine.

  8. Infact it is impossible for a zambian to own land anywhere in the Middle East and even in most European countries. This land is our heritage

  9. The thugs involved in land grabs are not PF. They just use the name of the party. Before PF came to power they were claiming to be MMD. Police should not relevant but deal with the ruthlessly.
They have destroyed people’s completed houses in their attempt to grab their land. If they prove too stubborn open live fire on them. When a few are killed, they will stop their merciless acts. If this is not done, more legal owners of the land will be killed.

  10. am UPND , the demonstration was peaceful , see what happens when the police has been compromised they have no idea what is a human right or civil/criminal.

  11. all zambians deserve to access to land. its their birth right whether poor or rich, the common denominator is that they are citizens. the people demanding for land are not wrong. what is wrong is demonstrating without seeking a permit. we have seen other political cadres being harassed when they protest/demonstrate without a permit. all are citizens. what is needed is level heads here. on the other hand, we have seen this lawlessness on the part of party in government cadres. people have had their hard earned cash grabbed from them by these well connected thugs. a proper scrutiny should be made on all these people claiming a stake of this land, otherwise we dont want a situation where people grab land for re-selling

  12. Ignorance and superstitions!. How can someone murder a father on grounds that his wife was dreaming of having sex with the in-law. Dreams are in the sub-conscious mind. The woman had a crush on the father-in-law and that is why she was dreaming about him. If not, she must have told the lie in order to drive a wedge between father and the son. This evil woman has got her reward, a dead father -in-law and a husband who is going to be hanged for murder.
