General Malimba Masheke has said that it is too early to Judge the performance of President Edgar Lungu.

Speaking to the media yesterday, General Masheke said that much as it is the right of Zambians to question the governance of the country, it is too early to judge President Lungu.

“President Edgar Lungu is a new man in office. Give him some time. It is unfair to judge him over the 100 days he has been in office,” Gen Masheke said.

However, the veteran politician appealed to President Lungu to do the right thing as he governs the country.

“Time is not on President Lungu’s side. 2016 is already here. I am sure he is aware that elections are already knocking on his door. So he must be steady,” Gen Masheke said.

And Gen Masheke said it is not possible to hold a referendum over the constitution.

He said the 2016 elections are quite close, and demanding for a referendum now is tantamount to being unfair to masses of poor people.

He explained that a national referendum requires a lot of money.

“Calls for a referendum over the constitution are justified, but the question is; do we have time?” Gen Masheke said.

General Masheke once served as army commander, minister of Defence from 1985 to 1988 and Home Affairs minister from 1988 to 1989.

He was the last prime minister in the Kaunda administration, serving from March 15, 1989 to August 31, 1991.

  1. 3 Months is a lot of time for us to start seeing significant and positive changes in the direction the country should be taking. What policies has EL spearheaded or pushed to drive the social and economic status of the country?
All he has done in the last 100 days is swear-in people he has appointed.

    • Ba Masheke…… you kind of people who judge beautiful people after looking at them for 3 months. You judge people from their cover and trust them when you hear their voices.
How can someone not judge Honor Janza if he is a good coach or not? Unless you don’t know how to watch football or never played before.
Edgar Lungu is a NOT and will NEVER be a better president, just as we know that Malimba Masheke or MULYOKELA will NEVER or MAKE a good president.

    • Its the brown envelope doing the talking of General Malimba Masheke.

The economy & kwacha have consistently been rotting & all you say is that “its too early to judge Lungu in 100 days”? Well, for me I judged Lungu the very first time, he corruptly chewed his clients monies as their lawyer, undemocratically choosen to be PF president, self confessed that he is very visionless.

We know what brown envelopes can do. The PF should focus on the economy & kwacha, so this is what General Masheke should be talking about. Fuel costs have since been increased, surely all other things will princely go up.
To every action there is an opposite & equal reaction. The mines refused to pay taxes but PF of visionless Lungu are punishing citizens.

    • PF set its own time in which to make a possitive impact on governance and economy. It said 90 days was sufficient for it to deliver. Since he is following the original vision of late MCS (MHSRIP) he has to be held accountable on why he has not delivered accordingpto promises. Until he comes back to the Zambian people and revises the perod of delivery with an apology, the expectations remain as promised and we can safely say he missed the target.

    • The most dull General the Zambia Army had. The army was on its knees during his time as commander.

Any one who takes his advice will be doing so at their own peril.

      Leave ECL alone please.

  2. Even Mu Chikwati, you wait till after 3 minths when results will show failure to which you call one of your own, male or female, to find out what is happening ku bed.
I agree with the General apa peve mwee!

  3. Has Lungu formed his own party or continuation from sata where was the minister?
PF can in goverment in 2011 and promised the cinstiytution within 90 days they knew they had resources and it was a priority to them and the country why speaking for them and change statements

  4. Way to go general.you’ve hit the nail on it head.couldn’t agree with you more.because if memory saves,el was opposed(condemned) from the first day in office, even without a full cabinet.give the guy a break.

  6. …bo Masheke could have done better to suggest a specific time frame he thinks is suitable to judge the man in the highest office….2yrs.?..3yrs..?…I believe the judgement should not necessarily be on the man at the helm but the organisation he leads because the ‘group’ is guided by their manifesto…the ‘boss’ is just their to superintend and guide the implementation of the same..
..ofcourse you do not judge a bus driver just when he starts the engine…but just ‘a few kilometres’ will tell if the driver is good or not…you would easily know if the driver is driving you in a wrong direction..if he is a stable, sober, slow or a fast driver just after a covering ‘a few kilometres’..now the phrase ‘a few kilometre’ is subjective to the distance of the journey..

  7. Well spoken General. Can all those agitating confusion and unwarranted protest marches see sense in what the General and other peace loving patriots have spoken. Being realistic is wisdom. How do one press for something even oneself knows he or she can not do given the circumstance. When one is driven with hate, the ego pulsating is always driven with blindfold meant to disturb the peace prevailing in order to attract attention the wrong way. People in previlaged positions should not wittingly abuse innocent people to start running battles for them. Many have remained maimed , lost eyes , legs, arms or sustaind terrible cuts and alone feel the pain when the masterminders remain cool in their affluent homes and life goes on. Better to move the country in unity of good purpose. Psalms 133:1

  8. What good performance is our president Edgar Lungu going to bring if he has brought in people we rejected because of massive corruption, and is surrounded by these people? In addition to that some of the people in PF he has appointed to leadership are not worthy of any thing if previously were involved in corruption. Without such people surrounding our president, our excellency president Lungu would have done very well.

  9. Lungu has made over 100 decisions since assuming office. Surely, you can judge him whether you give him 10%, 30%, 99% etc.

  10. Mr Masheke, time is one thing Zambians aint got! Why has he been travelling around the globe if he knew that we wanted immediate results? Its called setting your priorities straight. The man spent about a week or so at some national park lodge just after being elected. He should have used that time to study what needed to be done and what was more important to the people who elected him.

No, Sir, we would have seen even markets respond positively to his election, however, the opposite happened. The Kwacha has been weakening ever since. Some policies only take a signature to implement. 100 days is way too long.

It is very clear to most of us that this man (Mr Lungu) either knows very little or not all in what his role should be. His speech betrays him.

  11. All right thinking people have seen that ECL means well that’s why you are seeing positive comments from Bo Masheke, VJ, Kapita even the dirty chin Dr. Canicious Banda e.t.c! At the end of the day the Under Five (HH) will find that he is moving alone in his forward movement which already past the destination on 20th Jan 2015!!! He keeps copying Sata’s out dated tactics over criticizing everything without reasoning, jumping on public buses e.t.c Zambians can now see through such old tactics and will not follow anyone who uses them. May be its indeed time he follows the example of the British opposition!!!!
