On his continued tour of constituencies as well as thanking voters, UPND President Hakainde Hichilema said he was appalled with the state of poor housing in Bauleni Compound and called for urgent upgrades of these high-density areas around the country. The UPND leader was touched with people’s persistent complaints of lack of clean water and bad sanitation conditions in their locality.

Mr. Hichilema, who toured Bauleni market visited several other vulnerable households where he offered some help, said it was unacceptable that 50 years after independence some citizens could be living in such squalid conditions.

Most of the residents complained that the cost of living was unbearable as all the essential commodities were now beyond their reach. The traders and marketeers complained that they will never vote for an absentee Government and were looking forward to the day they will vote for a Government that will listen to them and bring change in their lives.

“We have been voting for PF in Bauleni since 2006, but their excuse was that they could not do much because they were in opposition. But now they are in government and life is even worse than before they came into power. We can’t even sell our tomatoes and vegetables because there are no customers.” Some residents said “Abantu balechula kuno ku Bauleni ba Hichilema. Twafweni tata wesu.Inga mwayamba ukuteka umwaka uleisa, mukabombeshe tata twapapata. Abana besue balechula, bale nwa fye lutuku nokuchita ubuhule pantu inchito batu laile ba PF takuli” (People are suffering here in Bauleni Mr. Hichilema. Please help us sir. When we put you in power next year work hard to help these youths who have resorted to drinking elicit beers and doing prostitution because they have nothing to do).

But the UPND leader, who went by buses, said he was impressed with some of the skills and business ideas he found in the area such as carpentry and promised better government incentives that will promote Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) once in power.

Mr. Hichilema wondered why government departments, for example, would buy furniture from abroad when Zambians were able to make better items than imported products.

“Our children should be promoted from doing what I have discovered is ‘bonanza business’ in these places into responsible citizens that should equally aim higher in life. We cannot continue to degrade these young people as second class citizens through demeaning and derogatory terms.” he said.

Mr. Hichilema said he was a proud product of Lusaka’s Kalingalinga Compound himself where he built his first house. He said the children from such places and others throughout the country must be encouraged and supported through better economic policies that offer better education and job opportunities to support their families.

“It is disheartening that a number of children even in urban centers were unable to go to school due to lack of support. As a family, we run a limited scholarship scheme for vulnerable children in Zambia, but as at now, the budgets have by far exceeded what they could manage as family because of regular increases in tuition fees. But from our experience, we believe we could do more if we were given an opportunity to run a viable economic programme that would create jobs and generate resources locally instead of borrowing,” he said.

Mr. Hichilema concluded his tour with the promise that the residents of Bauleni have not seen the last of him as he intended to be a President for the people and not what was currently obtaining.

    • There is a lot of wastefulness in PF government and yet places like Bauleni have no medicines at the clinic, garbage at the market is not collected. People have no access to running clean water, no proper toilets and yet the The Minister of Finance and former VP Scott pass there every day on their way to their Mansions in Sate Lodge Area driving big GRZ cars

  1. Dont cheat people iwe tribal HH!!Rome was not built within a day.those levels will continue even if you won!!plus you are the one who caused that by selling government firms!!!CHEAT YOUR FELLOW TONGAS ABOUT THAT AND NOT US!!RECALL IT WILL BE KOLOPA.COM RELOADED IN 2016 IN FAVOUR OF MIGHTY PF!!

  2. This man seems to be understanding Zambian politics now! Thats the approach which made Sata very popular amongst the poor who are actually the majority voters! We can now wellcome you bwana hh into real Zambian politics. You seem to be learning the tricks of the trade!

    • Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and Mahtani after 50 years of independence, Zambia is in its present state of despair because of educated criminals like you. KK and our elderly independence heroes sent you to school, provided free mealie meal, free books, free cloths, free jobs and what did you do in return? Stole the little that our forefathers had built since independence. You and people like you, the so-called educated thieves sold all parastatals to foreigners for a song, just because You agreed to be used by Chiluba, Valentine Chitalu and Anderson Mazoka. You undervalued and wrote nice stories about foreigners in exchange for free shares, sitting allowances, contracts and directors fees in companies before and after disposals. You brag that you two are the richest persons in Zambia

  3. What I like about HH is he see opportunities everywhere, “Mr. Hichilema wondered why government departments, for example, would buy furniture from abroad when Zambians were able to make better items than imported products”.

  4. Bauleni and Kalikiliki are very near to his mansion and yet this is when he has become aware of the plight of the residents? Bauleni is in HIS constituency as well and he can only visit them when he is trying to score political points? I am a hood rat and we hate this kind of ingeniousness and pretentious approach to poverty? Are you telling us that after so many attempts at the presidency he is only now thinking about the plight of people in Linda and Bauleni? Awe shuwa…..Zambia needs genuine shepherds (kachemas)….no pun intended….

    • A hoodrat? Oh my! How can somebody call themselves that?
Isn’t that the height of self deprecation? Ignorance of the first degree!

    • HE IS THE KACHEMA MUSUMA. DO YOU HAVE A SHORT MEMORY? HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THAT YOUR LATE MAN COULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO DO SUCH VISITS OR HOLD MEETINGS BECAUSE HE WAS SCARED OF HIM? YOUR MEMORY MAY BE PITIFULLY SHORT BUT OURS IS NOT.

    • If you don’t see sense in what HH said, you are one of the key problems to this country’s development.

  5. Look at your at your bemba you PR team of tribal UPND,very poor and you expect bembas tp vote for your HH,never!!!

  6. Loot at your bemba you PR team of tribal UPND,very poor and you expect bembas to vote for your tribal HH-never!!

  7. I thought Pick & pay. Shop rite and other South African companies where he invested our money could buy from those carpenters. U5, bu hypocrite will not buy you votes. Bauleni is not an easy shanty where that dirty can be removed as you imagine. The place is crowded without roads and space for proper garbage management. It is surprising that you live just next to this shanty and come to discover this only now. This is fantastic and high intensive lying. Mr U5, gimmicks of Mr Sata will not work. Zambians know that Mr Sata lied and would not make same mistake to vote someone using those tricks. The only reason Zambians love PF is because EL ascendancy to power is biblical as the way he got it with all that enemy resistance beats and is only by anointment by hand of God. 5 to 0 loss is on.

  8. If u read the mood in the country, not even the once might Mmembe is in control. No one is interested in his hate laced newspaper. One by one, they are falling. 2016 is Kolopa.com using UPND nega-nega formula. U5 will retire next year. Mark my word. All the tricks you have employed in Eastern province using inciting MUVI TV news will not work. Next by elections will again tell you the barometer views.
HH try 4 times all losses. One try by EL, he is in plot 1 Nkwazi House. The nearest for you U5 was 2015 elections. You missed to score a penalty in un-manned goal and instead scored in your own balls which got damaged and are still licking pus. Sorry U5. It is 5 to 0. Game over retire to neganega farms in Choma

  9. AWE BENA ZAMBIA ALA BACHULA CHAMONEKA! NO SANE PERSON CAN DENY THE POVERTY THAT IS SELF EVIDENT. PF HAS COMPLETELY FAILED TO MANAGE THE ECONOMY. NOW IT’S TO THE POINT WHERE WE REALLY DON’T CARE WHO TAKES OVER ” PF NO MORE” THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
    PF KULONGA TULELANDA!!!!!

  10. these unplanned settlements are a result of unip govt, bauleni is only one of them. Cn hh give us a road map of how he will improve these areas?

  11. This portion brought tears in my eyes, literary:

Some residents said “Abantu balechula kuno ku Bauleni ba Hichilema. Twafweni tata wesu.Inga mwayamba ukuteka umwaka uleisa, mukabombeshe tata twapapata. Abana besue balechula, bale nwa fye lutuku nokuchita ubuhule pantu inchito batu laile ba PF takuli”

Honestly, dont we have even a handful of Zambians who still have a heart for the people?
