President Edgar Lungu has directed all Members of Parliament to return to their constituencies and lead awareness campaigns for people to obtain national registration cards (NRCs). President Lungu says all MPs must ensure that they lead the mobilization of all eligible persons to register for NRCs in order for them to be able to register as voters later this year. In a statement released by his special assistant for press and public relations Amos Chanda, the President said before Parliament resumes its sittings on June 16,2015, he will take special interest in monitoring the performance of MPs in the awareness creation campaigns in their respective constituencies.

“It is a civic responsibility for every citizen to vote and one can only vote if one has obtained their national registration card. It is even a greater responsibility for MPs as elected officials to ensure that they mobilize people to register as voters. It is particularly important especially for PF MPs to undertake this assignment as a mandatory obligation,” the Head of State said.

  1. Why should it take the head of state to direct these MP’s to visit their constituencies? In short without this directive some of the MP’s would have not thought for themselves to visit the people who had sent them to parliament? It’s so sad. If they don’t visit their constituencies, then which people do they represent? There is nothing honarable about MPs who dont visit their contituencies

    • Edgar Lungu is just interested in the elections and remaining in power. The Zambian people want their MP’s to address the problems they are facing in their communities. Not for some fat, well fed MP based in Lusaka coming in a private jet to tell them what they need to do.People need to know when they will have medicines in hospitals, when they will have jobs ,travel on good roads etc We need our MPs to also explain to us why killing lions in our game parks is a priority for PF.All this not NRC cards…people are sick and tired of elections.Zambia is over 50 years and we are one of the poorest countries in the world.Lets address this then we will talk about NRC

    • MPs should actually reside in their constituencies ; not just visiting. Don’t vote for absentee MPs if you want development.

    • NOT to be tourists… MPs should reside in their constituencies and not just visiting elections are due to take place. MPs should share the happiness and sufferings of the people they represent. Muusa was weeping cos he did not know that the area has seen no development for yrs.

  2. Is that all you think about Mr. Lungu, elections? The people need to put food on the table, that should be your #1 priority. When the people vote for you they expect something in return, what have you done for the people of Zambia? Yes its only been over 100 days but the forecast for this government does not look good, we are regressing. Ask not what the people can do for you (votes), but what you can do for the people.

  3. These MPs are public figures and they first need to get police permits to visit their constituencies. But Lungu’s directive just shows that Zambia is waiting money on useless MPs who are doing nothing but are their only to put more money in their pockets

  4. You need to prepare police permits as well for them to use when travelling around in their constituencies.

    • Edgar Lungu never said that you should stop using your brains and understand implications of your actions.

    • AS FAR AS MP ARE CONCERNED THEY DON’T NEED VISAS TO VISIT THEIR CONSTITUENCIES. YES, OTHER PUBLIC FIGURES WHO ARE THERE JUST TO CAUSE COMMOTION MAY NEED. I DON’T SEE WHY AN MP SHOULD NEED A VISA. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT TO DISAGREE WITH WHAT EL IS SAYING. IN FACT SUCH MPs SHOULD NOT BE RE-NOMINATED IN 2016 IF THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO VISIT THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR THEM. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT WHAT IS AND NOT HAPPENING IN THEIR CONSTITUENCIES. THEY ARE A BUNCH OF USELESS MPs AND SHOULD BE DONE AWAY WITH.

  5. THESE MPs, DO THEY NEED TO BE DIRECTED TO VISIT THEIR CONSTITUENTS? IF THEY CAN’T WITHIN A SPECIFIC PERIOD TAKE AWAY THE VEHICLES THEY ARE GIVEN FOR THE SAME PURPOSE. BECAUSE, THIS MEANS THAT THEY ARE USING THESE VEHICLES TO BONK THEIR GIRL FRIENDS IN AND TRANSPORTING THEIR SHOPPINGS TO THEIR HOMES AND GIRL FRIENDS’. FUEL AND MAINTENANCE FUNDS ARE BEING WASTED ON WRONG THINGS.

  6. I agree with Chagwa. Zambians need to get NRCs and later voters cards so that we can vote these PFools out of power next year.

  7. These MPs have forgotten about the people who elected them. They don’t stay in their constituencies. They prefer the city lights. Most of them don’t attend to problems in their constituencies. They are seen there just before elections when they promise the electorate the unattainable. And so the cycle continues!

  8. If ECL is interested in wining the 2016 ELECTION. He should pass a law to compel Jehovah’s Witnesses to start voting, there are in thousands across the country.

  9. Jehoavh’s witnesses? Get closer to them if you really understand or would like to learn the Bible. Is it worth voting for people whoare there to enrich themselves? uir country has gone down because of bad politics.

  10. Our mp wont monitor this exercise he has no hope of re contesting his seat is one of the mps from muchinga province guys guess !
