STATE House has distanced itself from allegations that it is interfering in the tribunal set up to probe allegations levelled against suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito.

President Edgar Lungu’s special assistant for press and public relations Amos Chanda said President Lungu has no influence in the tribunal as he just appointed its members.

“President Edgar Lungu received petitions from member of the public immediately he assumed office which alleged that the DPP was involved illegal activities,” he said.

Mr Chanda in an interview yesterday said the petitions were too many and that is the reason President Lungu constituted the three member tribunal to probe the allegations.

“As far as I can remember, they were about seven petitions that the president received against the director of public prosecutions and that prompted the head of state to set up a three member tribunal that is investigating the allegations,” Chanda added.

Recently, the tribunal that consists former Chief Justices Annel Silungwe, Mathews Ngulube and Enerst Sakala has come under fire from critics of President Edgar Lungu who accuse the head of State of interfering with the proceedings of the tribunal.

Zambian Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali accused former chief justice Annel Silungwe, who is chairing the tribunal, that he has been negotiating his retirement package with President Edgar Lungu because he feels that he was not properly remunerated.

Tayali is also quoted accusing Rupiah Banda of orchestrating the removal of Mutembo from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions through an expensive undertaking in which he was involved. The civil rights activist has further advised Mutembo to seek legal recourse in challenging the tribunal’s decision to probe him in camera and that he would be available as a witness to reveal more of what he knows.

  1. We need to investigate the interests of Tayali. He seems to be the only one who does not feel the need to recover the 14 billion.

Mr President, please set up a Tayalibunal.

I personally want the 14 billion paid back or I demand a piece of stake from Mmembe’s and Nchito’s necks or from any of their body parts of my choice.

People should learn to borrow and pay back. This will ensure that the funds revolve. The idea of revolving funds is being killed by selfish individuals who just borrow without repaying because they think they are special. Or they think they are too well known and too important or indeed too influential to pay back.

But worse, they want to be in the fore front of prosecuting others. How hypocritical could one be?

    • @Tutu either you are a grade 7 drop out or you found your way to night school up to form two! You must understand the terms of reference before you talk about amounts you have never touched, seen or have in your life! We are all interested to see justice being served. But people must come with clean hands. What my interest is- is that the whole precess and final benefit must be for the greater good for our society!

  2. Can some educate me please-what is the main objective/purpose of Tayali’s NGO? He seems to attack anyone who he meets on the way like a rabid dog.the guy is neither here or there!

  3. Like you would say yes as we all know he has been interfering. Who do you think you are wood winking Chanda?

  4. @1.1, We need the 14 billion now. Even if the case is delayed, nothing is going to change facts.

DBZ is our money. Think of the poor, think of the sick, think of new projects.

@1.1. I have got 2 degrees from very highly ranked universities. I am pursuing a third one. You can get my details from LT so that I can talk to you. I need to educate you on the need to have responsible citizens. People who can borrow and pay back. People who can find a toilet clean and leave it clean.

I don’t care who borrows, my interest is that they should pay back, particularly public resources.

  5. Irrelevant statement. Even if he was interfering, do we expect him to admit doing so?

This is the problem when you feel compelled to answer to everything, even the rantings of clowns!!!

  6. This Amos Chanda is being a useful I.diot.Do you expect ECL to say, “yes, I’m interfering in the tribunal”?

  7. Well ECL was not involved! Very hard to believe. My take is that the situation is getting out of his hands and he cannot control the outcome from the courts. So he has to deny involvement now! Just think:
    a) The DPP is accused by Newton Nguni, the same man who sued Guy Scott ON BEHALF OF ECL, for Acting as President (The same man ECL gave Cabinet Minutes – revealing state secrets).
    b) The I.G. arrests the DPP despite a High Court Order quashing the arrest. The I.G. first CONSULTS with her superior before telling the DPP – “we are NOT going to obey that High Court Order”! I wonder which superior she was referring to?
    c) The ToR’s are AN EXACT COPY of Brebner’s letter.
So, do you still think ECL is not involved? Please, we are not kids!!
