OUTSPOKEN Zambian Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali has been sued by a Lusaka law firm for non payment of legal fees amounting to K407, 000.
Hobday Kabwe and Company has dragged Tayali and Zambian Voice to court for non payment of legal fees for services rendered after representing him in an appeal case where he joined proceedings where Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) sued JCN Holdings Ltd, Post Newspapers and Mutembo Nchito for the payment of K14 million loans.
Numerous reminders had been sent to the defendants but he has neglected, failed and ignored to settle the amount making the plaintiff’s law firm continue to suffer loss of use of the legal fees
duly earned in the said period.
On July 12 and 14 2012, Tayali acting on his own behalf and second defendant did personally appoint Hobday Kabwe and Company guarantying the payment of legal fees with the first amount being K 70,000 as deposit before commencement of proceedings.
According to a statement of claim, Tayali only managed to pay K6, 000 on July 16, 2012 with the payment of K500 to be paid per hour per sitting and the plaintiff’s firm had expanded 826 hours in overall attendances and prosecuting the case for the defendants from July 12 2012 to January 8, 2013.
The hours gave rise to an accrued amount of K407, 000.00 in legal fees due and payable by Tayali and Zambian Voice.
“Despite numerous reminders made by the plaintiff firm through its managing partner to the first defendant and on behalf of the second defendant to settle the outstanding amount of K407,000.00, Tayali has been elusive and had to date neglected to pay the said amount,” read the Statement.
The plaintiff is now claiming the said amount in respect of legal services rendered by the plaintiff to the defendant at his own request, interest on the above and costs to be taxed if not agreed.

Disparage the ruling party class, all manner of personal issues tacked away in private closet surface and become of public interest.
Praise sing for them, all debts, wrong doings are forgiven and forgotten; including laundering you for adoption in an election to the Honourable Parliament regardless of pending criminal prosecutions or indeed the conviction for corrupt practices by courts of law.

Tayali’s hypocrisy has tiny short legs and can not run that far.
Just yesterday I commented on Tayali’s loud mouth against the very PF he praised day in day out during the late ‘s era, that he will soon swallow his vomit and start showering Lungu all manner of praise after the regime try to squeeze his tiny balls.
Barely 24 hours has passed and Tayali has a headache where to find the money to settle those legal fees. If he manages to do that, then the government will reopen his rape case allegations and squeeze his tiny balls to the point of crashing them until he starts singing praises for PF, Lungu, and RB.
Ka Tayali busy making wild allegations in his masters paper the Post while forgetting that he is just a small poor boy whose time to shut up and rot in jail has come. Tayali the rapist defaming innocent people to impress the cartel, manje uza chiona mwaice.
What kind of a lawyer allows accumulation of K407, 000 from an individual? Tail probably doesn’t make half that amount in a year. This lawyer, Mr.Kabwe has just “decampained” himself. This is just a clear case of incompetence on his part.
Hope fred mmembe will pay….no nchito to takeover or enter nolles in his rape case…dont mess with rb ….
Fred Mmembe has his own issues so will never pay this fee for him.Post newspapers workers have gone 3 months without pay.
Tayali need not worry because Dr. Mathani will foot his legal bills in exchange for using Tayali as an appendage of the Cartel’s Project against human morals.

@Misango Yaba Chaimani, what has the govt got to do with Tayali’s legal fees. Its not like the govt charged Tayali those legal fees. This was a private arrangement between Tayali and Hobday Kabwe and Company. So don’t defend this rapist on things that are very obvious and straight forward.
I guess thats why he has been barking alot of late.He wants his sponsors to be aware of his existance so that they can pump in more money in his escapeds.

Well said, @kim. Health and justice are a luxury in Zambia and most countries in that region. That explains why the useless politicians are running to Asia for treatment. In Asia one of the most affordable things is healthcare. Justice is a devolved scenario so you have all manner of settling scores. I wonder what the leaders think when they see such ridiculous billings.

The charge has nothing to do with how much work you put in at university. After you leave university demand and supply are the rules you will find in the real world. Lawyers are always in demand so they can set their own prices. These are things your university should have taught you. I however agree that K500 per hour is very high. In the US its about K100 per hour
