Flames scorch Zambia in Cosafa Plate final

Share

Zambia made a disappointing exit from the 2015 Cosafa Cup after losing 1-0 to The Malawi Flames in the Plate final on Friday evening at Royal Bafokeng Stadium to finish a ceremonious 6th.

A Kennedy Mweene howler, and two red cards characterised a dramatic second half to add some spice after an even more fiery contest in the opening 45 minutes.

Both sides had very few opportunities in a cagey but fast paced first half.

Micium Mhone tested Mweene with a fiery shot that the Zambia goalkeeper parried in the 25th minute and six minutes later Jackson Mwanza headed an Emmanuel Mbola cross inches wide of Malawi’s far post.

It all turned upside down dead on the hour mark for Zambia when midfielder Ziko Mkanda punished Mweene when he pounced a poor clearance off a soft back pass from defender Christopher Munthali to score the lone goal.

Five minutes later, Malawi captain Lucky Malata was sent off and Zambia defender Donashano Malama followed him in 75th minute, both players for second bookings.

Meanwhile, Malawi’s win saw them avenge their 2-0 friendly defeat suffered on May 10 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

  1. That man posing as a coach needs to go. Before long, the likes of Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Mozambique and Swaziland will cease to dread us. Atase!

    • Janza should know it is theft to cling on a job, just to be there without performing. Maybe he brings in his mentality as a Zambian civil servants, who use their time at work to study at Open University. Janza is “learning” without realizing that he is abusing our feelings.

  2. The problem with our team is that the whole technical bench is inexperience and seem they cant read the game well we have a lot if experienced coaches who can be brought into the team to help these results are a wake up call change is needed very urgently

  3. FAZ, can you give us another coach please. This is a waste of time and resources, Janza has failed. I am sure Elijah Tana and Chris Katongo can do better than him. Bring back Katongo immediately without any further delay at least as a second assistant.

  4. The current bench has Honour Janza, Chintu Kampamba, and Davies Phiri!!surely which team can these inexperienced coaches beat?Kalu must be serious!!these coaches cant even last for a month at a local team like Nkana FC!!Janza has a good paper in coaching but he lacks real coaching experience.LOOK AT THE PLAYERS HE PICKS?USELESS ONES LIKE MALAMA,JACKSON MWANZA,PAUL KATEMA,ETC!!we have very good local players like Davy “Spacio” Kalandanya and Happy Kaunda from Konkola Blades,Maybin Chishimba from Nkana,Thomas Nyirenda from Power Dynamos, plus many others.but Janza only sticks to useless players!!!AM TOO HAPPY THAT HE’LL NOW LOSE HIS JOB AND ITS LONG OVER DUE!!!

  5. Kalusha made Janza coach because he thought HH was winning!! That was the strategy – not football strategy!!

  6. Zambians, you are the same people during the time of Herve Rhenard who were accusing Kalu of betraying local coaches because according to you, many like Janza where qualified, to an extent Kalu issued a statement that local coaches were not yet qualified to drill the national team. A lot of you called Kalu unpatriotic! Now he has given you want you wanted, you call him devil. Am sure the delayed signing of Janza’s contract was on purpose to show all of you that our local coaches have not yet matured.

  7. Janza you are playing with our feelings, can’t you see that you have failed, FAZ what are you waiting for? exit him please!!!

  8. Please do not let a Tonga anywhere near to leadership. These people are only capable of leading animals. They are not even good at leading animals because they let them roam around on their own. These Kachemas are not good leaders.

  9. It is not Janza please ,just look at the current clubs we have in Zambia, which club can beat any west /North African Clubs? the answer is ZERO. That is where the problem is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. If I had the power and means, I would ensure that these three characters vacate the positions immediately -Sepp Blatter,Brenden Rodgers and Honour Janza.
