Some members of the Jehovah’s Witness Church have condemned calls by some opposition political parties to deregister the organisation for not participating in politics.
The members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told ZANIS that it is unfair for leaders of political parties to start condemning their church.They said such remarks should be condemned by all well-meaning religious members as they are likely to bring confusion and hatred in the nation.
The church members added that politicians calling for the deregistering of their church are infringing on people’s rights of association.The further explained that Zambia is a Christian Nation and the Jehovah’s witnesses believe in their church doctrine and values.
They have since advised politicians spearheading such calls to concentrate on bringing positive development to the people rather than creating division among religious groups.
Recently National Revolution Party (NRP) leader, Cosmo Mumba, appealed to the Registrar of Societies to force Jehovah’s Witnesses to start singing the national anthem and participate in political elections alleging that they were contributing to voter apathy in the country.

I agree with you man. they would have done so through a representative not like this. as the article starts “some members of Jw” so its just expressions from some members who may be true members or just some who sides with them, who don’t represent the organization as a whole. witnesses are very orderly.

Let’s address the JW issues; I have no problem with an individual exercising their right to vote or not to, but what’s wrong with just showing patriotism to your country by singing the National Anthem? The National Anthem symbolises & fosters the oneness of a country’s citizens and is also a form of common values & identity ( “… Sing of Zambia proud and Free … Land of Work & Joy in Unity…Praise be to God…”), so what’s JW’s issue with such a nice song? No one has ever explained JW’s doctrine on this matter right from my Primary School days…. Can someone explain please?

Participating or not is one’s choice but creating divisive dogmas of not singing national anthem or not participating in democracy and having extremist views that till Jesus comes there is no worthy person to rule countries. That is chaotic thinking. JW have other extreme views and if they were a sect of Islam like Ahmedis they would have been in trouble by now. Not accepting that Jesus was born on Christmas or refusing to accept blood and letting children die who are in need of blood to save their lives. Sanctity of life is core of Christianity.
Rather, pure worship of God is the core of Christianity. John the Baptist was beheaded, Jesus of Nazareth was tortured to death on a stake, and evidently 11 of Jesus’ 12 faithful apostles were killed for their faith! (Only John died of old age.)
Of course,their lives were all precious to God, but life in this world has never been the primary thing. Faithfulness to God is the priority! Always! The above mentioned servants of God all gained eternal life by loyalty to God until death.
However, blood transfusions are a high risk treatment, and they do kill many patients each year. Recently doctors recommended a blood transfusion for my daughter-in-law, who is not a Witness. She discussed it with her sister who is a registered nurse, and her sister told her, “No way! Too dangerous!”

I’m not a Jehovah’s Witness, but in a democratic dispensation, I think everyone has a right to abstain from participation. If they are forced to participate in political activity against their will, then that is no longer democracy but dictatorship.

I suport mr cosmo mumba, the so called jehovas witness are not christians they are a cult. At least half of what you said is completely false. 1. Jehovah’s Witnesses do believe in the holy spirit 2.we do pray in the name of Jesus 3. We do say Amen at the conclusion of a prayer 4. Our Bibles are accurate translations of the original text. 5. We do not omit scripture and will use any bible translation to teach ones the truth.
It is true we do not vote or sing the national anthem. Jesus himself said his Kingdom was no part of this world and urged his followers to remain separate from this world (John 15:19). It is true that we believe that Jesus is God’s son and he himself said the Father is greater than I (John 14:28). We also do abstain from blood as is commanded in the Bible (Acts 15:28,29).

Yes the birth is a happy time. However they did not celebrate birthday anniversaries then. The two birthday celebrations mentioned in the Bible involved the death of someone.
Birthday celebrations concentrate attention on the invidual. Pride is built up.
